I went there one time when I first moved here and was looking for a new nail salon. I had a bad experience and never went back. My nail tech did great until she was painting a design and on one nail, the straight line was very crooked. I asked her if she could fix it and she didn't speak English so she called over a man who knew a little bit. I explained to him I wanted the crooked line to be straight (like all the other nails). He responded "what? You want it be perfect?" I said "yes, I want this line fixed please". My tech and the man began speaking in a different language so I turned on my phone's translation app. They were talking about me in a different language saying "I'm not going to make it perfect, I'm going to make it worse". The man responded with "charge her $60, she hasn't been here before". I paid ($60, they said $50 when I called earlier), didn't tip (that extra $10 was the tip in my eyes), and never went back. Now I go to Infinity Nails NW nearby and they are amazing. Do not go to Tips and Toes. read more

I used to really love Tips and Toes but I have really been disappointed with the service lately. On May 23rd, I made a reservation for three of us for 10:00 am today (6/11/16). We arrived a couple minutes early and were told to pick out our colors. It took another several minutes of us waiting before we were showed to the pedicure area. The water was waiting for us and we sat down. Two technicians sat down and started working on my friends' pedicures. I sat with my feet in rapidly cooling water for half an hour before I had a technician rush over and start. What's the point of making a reservation if they're not ready for you at the reserved time? There was nothing more than a brief thank you for waiting. My friends were already getting polish before my pedicure even started. Halfway through my Friends pedicure, her technician went out for a smoke break and he came back in a cloud of cigarette stink. My technician rushed through and gave a very lackluster pedicure (crummy exfoliation, rushed massage). One of my two friends was ushered to the drying station 20 minutes before my other friend and I were shown over. If you're keeping track, I started 30 minutes late, and finished 20 minutes after her. My pedicure time was shorted by at about 10 minutes. No one sat down in her chair the balance of the time we were there, so I don't know why we were separated. Beyond the brief thank you for waiting, it wasn't acknowledged that my appointment was so late. I was offered no discount or any other compensation for the delay. In my opinion they shouldn't have started any of us until they could start all three of us. Alternately, they could have let us know that there was going to be a significant delay, and offered the opportunity to back out of the pedicure. It was uncomfortable to have my two friends waiting on me to finish. After three less than stellar experiences, I will not return to Tips and Toes. In January, I felt very pressured into getting a gel pedicure and was not advised the gel cost doubled from a regular pedi. The time after that, my polished chipped within a week. I have given Tips and Toes enough chances, and will take my business elsewhere in the future. read more

Stopped in on a quiet Monday night so they were able to fit a pedicure in without an appointment. The salon is good size, has enough room for 8 pedicure chairs and about 8 manicure stations. I like that the pedicure stations are in the back of the salon sectioned off from the rest of the salon...it's a little more peaceful. Once I sat down my tech, Betty, asked if I wanted a complimentary beverage (pop, lemonade, coffee) and made sure the water was the right temperature. She did an excellent job making sure my toes looked great and asked if I was happy with them. The massage could have been a little longer but I chose the basic pedicure...you can get a more expensive one with a longer massage if that's your thing. Went in a group on a Saturday to have a fun girls day. The pedicure was amazing, I had Su. Great attention to detail, great service very witty. Super relaxing. When it came time for manicures they didn't have enough people and I was all right waiting, wasn't a big deal- but I got a rushed manicure. Found out I paid the exact same rate as my friends who got a massage, wax treatment, and lotion. My guy was rushing through. I didn't get any of those extra services. Feels Like a Sweat Shop . . . Timeliness: I made an appointment for 2:00 online (super easy booking system) and arrived on time. I was put in a pedicure chair with a foot soak and left for 20 minutes. My feet were turning to prunes so I took them out of the water, only to be scolded by a passing member of staff and told to put them back in the water. So my first impression of this place is that appointment times are not honored. Ambiance: It is so busy and crowded and loud. Not at all relaxing. The pedicure chairs are so close together I could have held hands with the customers on either side. One of those customers remarked "I don't think I've ever seen a nail place so busy." The lady on the other side of me said "I was kinda hoping it would be quiet in here." Staff: My pedicurist, was super nice but very rushed, and perhaps consequently, rough. The cuticle cutting hurt a lot. I may be more sensitive than the next customer but in such a rushed, loud situation there's no time for communicating about personal preferences. Equipment: The chair was stuck in a reclining position that was very uncomfortable for me and the controls for moving it up & down did not respond. Also not relaxing. Again, something that could have been discussed and maybe fixed if my pedicurist was no so busy. But I feel this is management's responsibility to ensure equipment is in working order. Working Conditions: I overheard another customer say the nail technicians work 11 hour days. That's 11 hours of back-bending, physical labor in a hot, crowded environment where they are forced to service twice as many customers as a normal spa technician would see in a day. This place feels like a sweat shop, even if it technically isn't. It feels like this operation is about the owner's profits and not the staff's wellbeing or customers' experience. I would rather pay more and wait longer for an appointment somewhere the staff are treated well and no one is subjected to so much chaos. read more

This is a very nice, clean, efficient, and reasonable nail salon. I like that the pedi spas are off to the back and you can enjoy a class of wine or soda while back there. The tubs are always clean and the massage chairs are really comfortable. The staff typically remember your name and where you work and are nice. This is one of the nicer nail places in Rochester I think for a mani/pedi. read more

About six months after writing about my experience, I got a message from Paulina, who identified herself as the new owner of the salon. She told me she was sorry that my group did not have a good experience and that she'd like us to try Tips and Toes again now that it's under new management. My friend Amanda (the bride from my previous review) was going for a mani-pedi soon, so I let Paulina know that. I was really impressed with the amount of care they put into creating a good experience for my friend, and she had a great time! Everything ran much more smoothly and I was really impressed. Totally changing my tune on this place. While I still don't know that I'd recommend it for large groups of more than 4, for a "girls day" of 2-3 folks, this place will do the trick. read more

This place is absolutely terrible. I called ahead of time to make sure they would be able to take me and the lady on the phone said, "yea yea come now!" I get there in 10 minutes and end up waiting 40 minutes to get my nails done... Fine, I let that go and now the lady working on my toes, who I'm almost certain didn't change gloves between clients, cuts my nails SUPER ungodly short then stabs my big toe with the cuticle remover tool thing. Naturally I react and she tells me to calm down. Fine! I let that go too. Then, another lady comes to remove my acrylic nails and she laughs and says, "it's gonna hurt because we have to peel them off" I asked her if it was possible to remove them using the other tool that sands it down instead. She laughs again, speaks in her native tongue and walks away saying "no we can't." I then told them I was no longer interested in getting my nails done. Such a complete waste of $$$. Me and my friend went for pedicures and manicures. They were very nice and had complimentary soda. I got the regular pedicure and got the best massage ever!!! Tisha did my pedicure and she was awesome!! So friendly, great massage, and very relaxing! My friend got the stone massage and she loved it. You find a person who can actually do good nails and the are not there the next time you go. They raised their price too. You ask for an appointment time and they take you 10 to 15 minutes late. You get your heals and feet ripped up by them scrubbing with tool and fingers feel like minced meet bec the cant not hit your skin or cuticles. Disappointing. read more

The nail tech quoted the cost for a manicure with gel polish to be $42, which is reasonable. Then I was told the cost for my 12 year old daughter would be $52 for a pedicure with gel polish, I'd questioned the cost and was then told it was $32 for pedicure and the rest was for the gel polish; we went with regular polish, as I felt this was an unreasonable price for applying gel polish. The cleanliness of the shop could be addressed, especially in regard to the requirement of nail salon's use of fresh files and sterilized tools in between customers. Do NOT waste your money at this place. I enjoy the relaxation that comes with getting a pedicure. NOT AT THIS PLACE. First they are now charging a $2 up charge due to Covid. I was happy to pay that because I completely understand. They tried to sell me the more expensive pedicure which I politely declined. The lady I had rushed through the pedicure. I sat in the chair at 12:44 pm and she walked away from me at 1:05 pm. That time frame included her polishing my nails. Went in to have my acrylic nails removed and to have a regular polish manicure. I made my appointment on the phone and clearly stated as such. When I got there I picked out my color and waited for a few minutes. I wasn't offered a drink, but didn't really care. The place was pretty dead with employees sitting around on their phones. The interior is below average and quite cluttered, but that never really bothered me as long as they did a good job right? Anyways the lady assigned to do my nails was clearly unqualified and had no idea what she was doing. She soaked my nails in water instead of acetone and after removing the gel polish was dumbfounded by my acrylic nails. Soon there were five employees standing around me not speaking English and acting very shocked by my acrylic nails. Finally the receptionist who I spoke to on the phone came over and apologized for not realizing I had acrylics even though I told her so when booking the appointment. She then got someone who was supposedly qualified to remove acrylic nails. He ended up ripping my pinky nail basically in half, which was very painful, and giving me the worst manicure of my life. I was pretty astonished he thought it was good enough and even worth paying money for. He didn't even remove all the leftover acrylic crap from my nails. He also only painted my nails clear and not the color I had chosen. I can't even remember his reasoning behind that. The whole process took and hour and a half and cost $25. I should've refused to pay honestly, but I just wanted to get out of there. When the receptionist asked how it went all I said was that it could've gone better. Again I should've been more clear and asked for the manager, but I really hate being that person, and I also don't have the haircut for that. Anyways, she asked no further questions so I just left to go plan my revenge via scathing yelp review. Just honestly a horrible experience and once my nails heal and grow back I'll probably just stop wasting my money and time and just do them myself. I could've done a much better job removing my acrylic nails myself, but for some reason I thought I better let a professional do it. Silly me for thinking that I guess. I honestly just want to save people the trouble. I've been here twice and had crooked nails both times. The last time I went, I wanted a natural pink to white blend. I showed her the picture and she told me I needed to pick a color. I was a bit confused and told her that if she didn't know how to do it, that was fine. She then laughed at me and told me she could, I just needed to pick a color. So I chose the lightest pink I could find thinking she'll blend. She then proceeded to cut cuticles on four of my fingers, with the drill, that took a week to heal. My index finger nail was pointing to the LEFT and the shape was square when I asked for coffin. When it came to painting my nails, she pulled out a bright lavender. At this point, I quickly corrected her and showed her my picture again. She painted my set straight up pink. No natural pink-to-white blend, nothing like that - just pink. After my service was done, I was told it would be extra for the "coffin shape" and long nails. Fine, it is what it is. After a $15 gift card, I still paid $65! I hate writing bad reviews, but I honestly cannot understand how they're scamming people like this. read more
