Thanksgiving buffet

Beautiful historic Tippecanoe Place, once the home of the Studebaker family. The buffet was good, but the one thing I looked forward to the most, prime rib, was tough and flavorless. The service was impeccable. Excellent ambiance, and no cooking or clean up!

Crème Brulee

It's not just the meal. It's the destination. This place looks good inside out. Each room is different from the other, all exuding old world elegance. Our server Robert typifies service expected of this place. The dinner for 2 for $95 is a steal(see pics). I'll have the French onion soup followed by prime rib medium rare and end it with brownie with ice cream please. You can have your steak anyway you want as long as you don't mind getting it medium well. The prime rib nonetheless was still delicious. It came with excellent sides of mash potatoes and string beans. My wife had the crème brûlée. No complaints.

Warmth.

Bottom line: This place is worth the dining experience at least once. It's always fun to dine in a place with some historic or historical significance and this is one of these in what was the Studebaker mansion (Studebaker the former American auto maker). It must have been really something in its heyday. Our large party dined in a what appears to have been the library just of if the porch entry (not the original main entry) just off a large open gathering space that now serves as a waiting area. White table cloth is de rigueur but simple elegance with the backdrop of the richly detailed and adorned space creates a sumptuous setting. We started with cocktails. My Manhattan was on the boozy side but still enjoyable. I had Pinot Noir with my dinner which was quite ample in a large wine glass and a nice complement to my prime rib which was beautifully done. The service was prompt and sufficiently attentive but, thankfully, not annoying allowing the conversation to flow--a necessary ingredient for a truly good dining experience. The meal is based on three courses with several wonderful and wonderfully prepared courses. I will say that you must try the French onion soup to start and the cheesecake to finish. I also asked for the compote actually served with another dessert but making the cheese cake heavenly. Though somewhat pricey you're willing to overlook that due to the quality of the experiential dining. Again, try this historical venue at least once for a really unique dining experience.

Anniversary set up

It was our anniversary, and my husband surprised me with a reservation here for dinner. Man, I was so excited to come to this place and check it out. When you first drive up, you feel as though you are entering into a time since past. The rich history of this building combined with the preservation is reason enough to come check out this place. Having said that, and I will note now that there are a few other reasons to come check out this exquisite building that is rich with history, I will let you know that you do not want to come here for the food. Do not be disillusioned by any stories that you hear because some people are just under a different kind of spell. I don't fault them that, in fact, I envy them of this, but it doesn't mean that they have any indication of the actual quality of the food. The food at this establishment is the level of cafeteria quality, but at $44 for fillet pricing, I expect better quality than below below average. My steak was so charred that the burnt flavor overwhelmed everything, and I eat medium rare to rare.... No option to choose your sides, but what we got was over cooked everything; green beans that weren't green anymore, squash that really was squishy, alongside Zucchini that rivaled the squash for squishiness, and over boiled watery potatoes with a strange sweet seasoning that was frankly not good. I ate a few bites of my steak and enough of the other stuff to know I didn't want it and pushed it all away. My husband did the same, and we both felt epically let down and disappointed on such a special day. He was embarrassed, and I tried to let him know that I was okay, but he knew. The saving grace to the meal was a tiny little biscuit that was the absolute star of the show! Unfortunately, the waiter said they imported those from an external source, so not even the biscuit was from Tippecanoe. Meh. This experience was a letdown. I won't be returning unless it's to take over and revamp the menu. Side note: that night at like 4am I got so sick I was hollowed out and left as a husk. It's 2 days later and I'm just now feeling better. It had to be the brie is the only thing I can think of. Oh, God, how I suffered....

Prime rib (rare), mashed and green beans.

Unique setting as it is an an older home reimagined. Wait staff was excellent, food well cooked and seasoned. Priced high because people will pay for the nostalgia and experience. Order prime rib and was cooked perfect but mashed were lumpy and dry. Artichoke dip was yummy. French onion soup not seasoned, pretty bland. Awesome selection of home brews and extensive wines.

We did the six-course chef's tasting with wine pairings and every single course delivered. The food was creative, beautifully presented, and incredibly well-balanced, and the wine pairings elevated everything even further. You can tell there is real thought and precision behind every detail--from the menu to the pacing of the meal. And the ambiance was a total vibe! But what truly made the experience stand out was the service. The team struck that rare balance of being both highly professional and genuinely warm. Nothing felt scripted. It felt personal. When they learned we were close to graduating from our MBA program, they surprised us with a menu signed by the entire staff, filled with handwritten notes of encouragement. One simply said, "Follow your dreams." That moment will stick with me forever: core memory unlocked. This is the kind of detail you do not forget. This is not just a great restaurant--it is a full experience. I would absolutely put Roselily at Michelin-star level. If you appreciate thoughtful, elevated dining with exceptional service, this place is worth going out of your way for. We will be back for sure!

We sat on their beautiful patio with a perfect view of the St. Joseph River- what a treat! There are opportunities to sit in so many places it felt a bit like a maze in the best way- so much to see! And with all of these places to sit, on a lovely Friday night- this place was poppin'! So we'd likely recommend a reservation if you think of it, but I'm certain the wonderful staff would be able to fit you in as they can! We waited a moment for our food, but with our large group, we were happy to do so as the food was worth the wait! Many of our group got OG Burgers while others opted for chicken wings and brisket sandwiches, or even tacos! They really had it all! The food had a bit of a kick with the spice, but as someone with not a high spice tolerance, it was not too much at all! I didn't get a chance to snap a pic of our dishes because we just scarfed them down- Ha! The service was attentive, but also really independent and relaxed! Cared for, but not micromanaged in the slightest! Free to laugh loud and make memories with no rush out! Worth the stop if you can make it! What a joy!!

Glad I did. The salad was ok. The salami was smokey it added to the veggies. But for the price it was small and disappointing. 2 people got the prime rib sandwich and it was pretty sloppy. It's better to eat with a knife and fork. I was told it was good. The sweet potato fries have cayenne pepper on them. The chopped salad with tofu was also disappointing. The tofu had a weird bbq type sauce. The server was nice and she was fine. The atmosphere is more high scale. Just disappointed in the taste of the food and portion to cost. Cool experience being on campus but you're paying for it.

What left me puzzled is food. What I loved were fries, round shaped which I thought was rather unusual and just the right amount of salt, crispiness, softness inside. That's about it though. As a main dish I picked prosciutto focaccia and while on paper it looked great, it came out very dry, almost stale, I didn't enjoy it at all. While fries were great, the portion of it was tiny. Like, 10 or 11 fries in a small plate. My partner got a chicken sandwich and it was good. Now, the kids got kids burger which comes with fries too and I swear the kids plate had double the fries compared to my side. We also got kids pasta and it was the same size as someone's pasta from our party. I mean, great value for kids menu items, sure, but I'm just not sure why adult dishes are so slim compared to kids. When they brought the check we noticed two items in it that we didn't order, which we realized after paying for it and looking at the receipt (they use portable terminals and have an option to text you the receipt). Our server corrected the mistake and refunded the difference for the two items we didn't order promptly after we pointed it out but this still left a bad aftertaste for us; we don't always look at receipts and this one would've gone unnoticed for sure, we only looked because total seems a bit too high. I also noticed that the soup upcharge on the menu is $2, but on the check it was $3. Pointed it out to the server too but she didn't do anything about it. It's just a dollar so we didn't press for it, and again, only noticed it because we started looking at the receipt due to unusually high total. Anyway, it was nice to visit, but we won't be back.
