Unique Accessories is a little store with some interesting items. They sell mainly hats,…read morefascinators, and costume jewelry. Their hats are cool, but I wouldn't say all that unique. The styles and quality are similar to Parkhurst hats. The fascinators are pretty but honestly, I've purchased the exact same fascinators on eBay for a quarter of the price. However, at the store you get them right away, while on eBay you have to wait for shipping. I never need a last minute fascinator, so I'm cool with paying less and waiting for shipping. I'm not a huge fan of costume jewelry, but if you are, you might find some statement pieces here. They do have some quirky handbags, like one shaped like a teapot or a car. However, the prices are really high for what I feel is not that great quality. They have scarves, broaches, and other accessories too. The store is a bit on the small side but it's full of merchandise, so it does look a little crowded. A nice place to poke around. I've only ever made purchases here during their sales. I find the regular prices too high for the quality.

I really love this store - if fact, it really is the entire reason I ever go to Carlingwood. There…read moreare so few stores that have hats and fascinators in stock, this place is a real gem to have in Ottawa. I am very much a hat person and Must try things on before buying them - shape and size are a big part of it. While I am all over a good deal, I am also a big believer in "you get what you pay for" and if it's something you want to keep longterm, make it an investment. That said, I don't find the prices in this store unreasonable. My whole family is from the UK (I'm the Only Canadian) so hats come with the territory. Whenever we would cross the pond, picking up a good hat was always part of the trip, and let me tell you, they are Expensive! Unique Accessories offers fun hats and fascinators for a relatively decent price, and they are quite good quality - everything I have so far has stood up to the elements and become permanent pieces in my closet. The only other real hat store I have found is a tiny boutique in an office building in the market, where the Milliner makes everything from scratch and is therefor quite pricey (but again, you really get what you pay for - they are stunning) - I believe Mrs. Trudeau shops there too. As for the rest of the glitter and bling, it's quite fun and very colourful, but I must admit, I have only ever purchased headpieces. I will certainly be back, and I'm looking for an event to showcase my most recent acquisition!

They have clothes by Jennifer Glasgow and Miik. They have soaps and body care by Purple Urchin. They also have jewelery by local designers and weird knick knacks like hand puppets of Canadian prime ministers, lol. So funky and weird! This store is more neat, clean and upscale-ish, a la "Yorkville" (Toronto reference) and not like Adorit in the Byward Market (that also carries local and Canadian designs, and some of the same brands, like Miik) which is more, a la "Kensington Market" (sorry, another Toronto reference), but meaning more bohemian and smelling of patchouli. Prices are high, but your getting good quality and supporting the Canadian market.

The great thing about Flock Boutique is that the clothes are made by Canadian designers, the majority of which are women! They try to bring in lots of fashions from Ottawa and Montreal also, to be local. The accessories here are amazing! They have lots of colourful pins and earrings and some great bags! I really had to control myself, or I would have had an empty wallet when I came out. I did see several dress options, but was tight on time, so I couldn't try anything on. One of the girls working in the store patiently showed me several dresses and answered all my questions about the designers and the store. The people who work here clearly know what they are talking about. It is also great that so many of the designs are by Canadian women! For someone who wants to dress artistically, this is the perfect spot to shop.

I brought my daughter there last spring to purchase elastics for her ghillies and some tights. We came back during the fall for ballet shoes for my daughter after having some poor service at another dance store and wound up with some ballet shoes that were perfect for her. The lady who helped us made sure the shoe fit perfectly (especially since she has very narrow, small feet). We will be going back there for all of our future dance needs since it's only an, at most, 15 minute drive for us from Barrhaven so definitely not far if you live in the south end of town.

Shepherd's is a unique women's clothing store. Their aesthetic is drapey, flowy and asymmetric…read more(very similar to the "lagenlook" style). I love this style, but unfortunately, do not have the height to pull it off, lol. They do have some more fitted and structured items, but I would say the majority of their stuff is of a baggier fit (think Caftans and Ponchos). Also, I find that they don't carry a lot of smaller sizes, so if you are smaller than a North American 6, you likely won't find much that fits you. However, they also carry jewelry and other accessories. I have never bought anything at Shepherd's because nothing I've tried on has ever fit me, but I do like looking around at the cool styles. And maybe one of these days they will actually carry something that fits me. Prices are a bit on the higher end (tops $75-$175, pants are about $100 and dresses are around the $200 mark - and we're talking casual to semi-formal dresses). However, the styles are a bit different and you will likely not see too many other people on the street wearing the same thing. Some of their stuff I find a bit matronly, but some of their stuff is really neat. I loathe to use the term "mature woman" but let's just say that I doubt any tweens, teens, or even those in their 20s would find anything there to their liking. The shop is chalk full of stylish Canadian labels, crafty accessories and handmade lines of jewellery. All of the designers are women and Canadian (many of which are local) which makes this store totally unique in Ottawa. Some cool labels include: Annie 50 and Soit Disant (both out of Montreal) and Dagg & Stacey whose latest collection feature tweeds in collegial cuts. There is also a funky line designed completely out of recycled sweaters! The store environment is inviting and chilled out with nice familial chatting amongst staff and customers. Something else worth noting is the community spirit that the shops on this street seem to have. They all seem to know each other and don't hesitate to recommend a visit to their neighbouring stores for something specific you might be looking for. I find this to be a totally refreshing take on retail and a great reason to visit this store.
