The shop had a wide selection of board games at the front, some books along the shelves, crafting supplies for painting, figurines, and a tabletop play area in the back. There was a tabletop tournament for Magic the Gathering the day I went. The tables were all full and everyone was having a great time. My partner I had recently picked up Wingspan and have been enjoying it a lot so I wanted to pick up another board game for duos. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful here - they answered all the questions I had on board games I was looking for as well as gave me their own personal recommendations. We quickly picked up the 7 Wonders Duel board game and are very excited to test it out. Price is slightly higher than Amazon but worth it to support this business. While waiting properly behind the designated line sign to purchase an item, an aggressive male customer began crowding and verbally harassing me to move up past the boundary. When I directly asked the cashier on duty to enforce the store's line policy, she explicitly agreed with me that customers are supposed to wait behind the sign, but then followed it up with, "Yes, but it's okay." It is absolutely not "okay" for a boutique toy store in San Diego to permit a grown man to harass a woman shopping alone. By refusing to enforce basic civility and line boundaries, your staff actively validated hostile behavior over a sensory toy. When I contacted corporate regarding this incident, I received a completely generic, automated brush-off stating they hope I "visit again soon," completely ignoring the safety breakdown that occurred under their watch. Allowing this type of unchecked aggression to slide in a toy store where families and children shop is incredibly dangerous. This total lack of accountability and failure to expect basic respect from adults is exactly what escalates into full-on physical brawls over merchandise. I now actively dread going to this location because management refuses to hold disruptive adults accountable. I am putting this on the public record now, and when a major escalation inevitably happens here because staff refuses to maintain basic order in the NeeDoh line, I will be back to update this review. Carmen works for a few hours every day, upholding a family business that probably makes no real monetary sense (IMHO). She told me her hours are basically conditional as long as she gets a ride. I called ahead and she picked up. She's there a few hours a day, but so helpful. I needed this 1 odd piece of HO track. I could have searched ebay and waited and hoped, but instead, she saw the picture, knew she had it, and we even found a used one she sold me for $5. They have every scale! Sure, some of the inventory is priced high, but I also have found some really good deals (on some G-scale box cars) here that had some San Diego history. And then you get the experience of a real store, a real chance to find exactly what you need, and a real gem of a woman keeping up her husband and family's tradition and enthusiasm for trains. We're lucky to have this last train shop, as long as it lasts. Come with a smile (and cash only). You won't regret it.

Before discovering Henri's, I tried another place in La Mesa but when I got there I found out that they only buy and sell large collections. Then I called Henri's and spoke with the very nice Lowell, who had a box with a variety of stamps waiting for me to pick through. They were small lots of stamps and singles and I was able to purchase any amount I wished. I really like this place and will be back. Call first to determine what hours they will be open.
