Apparently you have to be a resident of Tinley Park to use a meeting room at 11a on a Tuesday while all of them sit empty. This is blatant prejudice and discrimination. I work remotely from Oak Lawn, Orland Park, etc. and never have they requested an ID or address to book a private room. They might as well hang "MAGA only" from the rafters. read more

Coming from New York I did not expect many offerings such as the Tinley Park Library has! They have extensive programing and the most inclusive collection I have seen. The facilities never cease to amaze me & I wish my children had grown up here in Tinley Park! I love the Mobile Library and it brings back so many childhood memories (we had one in Brooklyn when I was a child!) The staff at this Library are so creative and thoughtful of their clients I am truly grateful to have them! Keep up the Good work in providing Educational but Entertaining programing! I love the Tinley library. I live in Frankfort and our library is closed on Sunday and I drive out to Tinley to go to this one. The atmosphere is always amazing. The staff is great and helpful. It's such a great place to get a bunch of work done. read more

While this library has great staff that are not just willing but seem excited to help visitors out, I have to say the way everything is structured is a little odd. The children's section is on the second floor, adults on the first. The issue with this is that unless you book a study room or sit in the quiet room, you won't be able to really focus if you're there to work on schoolwork, study, etc. Sticking the adult section on the first floor means lots of noise from people coming in/going out of the doors, people riding the elevator, conversations at the front desk are heard easily, etc. Plus, the quiet area is TINY with maybe 4-5 desks and there are only 4 private rooms (that I've seen, at least). Cute library that seems to have a lot for the kiddos, but not ideal for study space. read more

Great library. The staff are always great and help you with your needs. I am a regular here. I prefer to study in the reading room as there is no conversation or cell phone usage allowed. Everywhere else can get noisy unless you get a study room. They offer good selection and programs for children on second floor. All in all great library. read more

Plenty of computers avail, 2nd floor is all kids stuff, free study rooms, self check out, tons of media (CDs, DVDs, wii games, audio books, etc), tons of staff to help, study tables... Simply stated the Tinley Library Rocks! The staff there is super courteous. Offering friendly service with a smile :) The resources there are plentiful as well. What I love most about the library are the free programs. You can attend programs from a wide variety of authors, chefs, motivational speakers etc. The programs are second to none compared with other local libraries too! OMG. In the last week, I have attended two of their computer classes, after swearing them off previously. It must be like childbirth-time blurs the memory and then you find yourself in the same situation cursing. I think the intentions are good with these classes, however, inevitably regardess of what the class is--and it could be advanced C+--you end up with 2-3 people out of a 6-10 person class that have never turned on a computer, let alone used the program the class is about. And at least a couple more have only used a computer to play solitaire or watch cat videos. Like MLK, I have a dream..... and it is that at some point in my lifetime, people will stop catering to the dumbest people in the group! (I doubt that I'm gonna live to see it.) Tonight I went to an Excel class for data and tables. The first 15 minutes was an explanation of how Lynda.com works?? Say what? Of course, one of the participants started with ...."my copy of Excel doesn't have that." Yeah, because you got the customized version of Excel.....Oy. THis comes on the heels of the advanced Word class I took late last week. I lasted about 5 minutes in that. One of the 97 year old participants raised his hand to ask our instructor if her name was Rosemary or Rose Marie (This is of course after she already introduced herself.) because he has a cat named Mr. Peepers, but before Mr. Peepers back in 1973 he had a cat named Rosalie and that's close to Rosemary, or is it Rose Marie? You get the picture. Thankfully, I exercised every bit of restraint or I would have hurled a laptop at him. This is pretty much par for the course for the computer classes. I tried a Build Your Own Website, again most people struggled to turn on the laptop. In my experience, the people in these classes (and I have been to several) are mostly clueless and are there to pass the time but it would be nice to actually have a class with a minimal level of knowledge upheld. I know, my bad for thinking people who take a computer class at a library are actually there to learn and have the prerequisite knowledge rather than just getting out of the house on the way to get more cat food. And this complaint is more related to the people who sign up for these classes rather than the instructors, who are just trying to be nice and accommodate the people who shouldn't be there to begin with. The incident took place during the Eclipse glasses giveaway. I was there to support a friend who was one of hundreds of people waiting in line. The entire event was very family friendly. Everyone was in a joyous mood, conversing with one another and bustling with excitement. While waiting in line, two library employees were handing out numbers ensuring that the first three hundred people got their glasses. You either had to show your library card or ID to ensure local residence. The whole process was handled really well and everyone was following directions. However, another employee (she always calls people hun or hunny) came out of the building gave something to the other two librarians who were further down the line and when she was walking back stopped and started giving the third degree to a teenager. She asked for his name, to see his ID, library card and number. I don't know why she targeted this specific teenager after the fact he already got his number. He was very nice, kept to himself mostly and even conversed with the elderly women around him. It was very disconcerting to see this very nice young man, be targeted by an employee who was in the building the entire time and never went to inspect the line until this point. All of us in that area noticed her behavior and we were taken aback and didn't know what to do. I know the library is not supposed to discriminate, but this was profiling at its worst. I feel horrible that I didn't speak out sooner, but couldn't let this incident go unnoticed. I didn't expect this to happen in my former home town, but I guess it did. read more

I love me a good library... when I can take my daughter to a library on vacation and she let's me get some work done for almost 2 hours sans interruption, it's a good library! Beautiful, clean, well organized... this library is great! It's also a major bonus to have a playground right next door! Next time we are in town to visit family, this will definitely be on our list of places to visit! read more

Nicely done library. Lots of kid books, story times, kid activity dates, decorations and the librarians are so kind. They helped my kids get their first library cards and were so polite during the process. They have sensory story times and even story times in other languages. There's a big play area and they even did Halloween trick of treating. read more

I want to say thank you so much to Kyle and Graham for all their help. I lost my little daschund in July, I had videos on my phone of him, Kyle and Graham spent over 2 hours with me to transfer them to a dvd for me. Very patient and knowledgeable, I will be going there more often to take advantage of all it has to offer. read more

I forgot how awesome libraries are. I hope they never become obsolete. Many afternoons I've spent studying here, but get here early if you want a small table to yourself. It's awesome for hot summer days when you want to be inside and have some quiet time but don't want to trek to a noisy book store. I've borrowed books, magazines, DVDs...and it's FREE. Free wi-fi, private rooms if you have a group coming or just don't feel like using headphones, and the staff are very helpful. They now have a small area in the front used as a small bookstore. I've gone upstairs (children's section) and it's very spacious. (Although I must say the Orland Park Library is bigger in general and has more natural light). Now self-check out at the desk. read more

The Tinley Park's library staff is fantastic. Extremely friendly and helpful. The area the Library needs to work on is how patrons are so loud in the children's area. I tutor 2 times a week and now stay in the adult section because of the noise. Children are allowed to be noisy and run around. Plus the students who are in h.s. and are to be studying, they are super loud and it is very distracting. It is a shame because it is a wonderful place!!! read more

Librarian with short brown hair and glasses is extremely rude. Told me I would have a law suit against me just because my backpack seemed to have moved slightly away from my chair and that my school life would be over. Just trying to get some paperwork done in a calm environment and yet I have been made feel extremely unwelcome. I will never be coming back. read more

I love this library because it has all the books I need for my schooling. But recently, I have come here to receive my "solar eclipse glasses" so I can watch the solar eclipse on Aug 21. They claimed to of had 300 glasses. We came about 8:30, a half hour before they gave them out, and they refused to give them to us because they already have a lot of people waiting. Hmm. I think that making us leave when they offered us the glasses is quite rude. 3 stars for a good library, and no glasses. read more

This library is very clean and quiet. Love the ambiance. Walking in you get a sense of coziness. Makes me wanna grab a throw and sit with a book in my hand. I like that they have a bookstore that's cute and small . Overall great library to go to! They even had chocolate candy bars for goodness sake!!! I do a lot of my big homework projects here. I get a lot done because there's a study and focused atmosphere here. If someone is noisy, which happens every once in a while, I appreciate how the staff jumps in to kindly ask whoever is loud to keep it down. Staff is great and very helpful. Physically, this library is nice. However the staff can be rude sometimes. I do not know what drugs their on but they have major mood swings. I constantly get yelled at for eating and drinking in the library even though the library sells chocolate and coffee. I do not know if they are trying to make this a communist area by only allowing us to have chocolate and coffee or what. They also target older kids for being loud even though the kids who run around the library are more distracting. I have seen parents bring their kids to this library and let them loose like this is a park. The children get so loud that It would literally be quieter studying at a fifth grade soccer game. read more

This review isn't as much about the library as it is about the patrons who do not respect it as just that....a library. The aesthetics of the library are beautiful, the programs are nice, and it "can be" a nice place to study. HOWEVER, it amazes me how people have a total disregard and disrespect for what the library means to those of us who come here as a means of escape from other noisy environments to study and complete tasks of great importance. Although some adult patrons can be a little disruptive at times with their cell phones and fleeting conversations while standing near the front counter, I am referring mostly to the people who are unable to control their children. It is absolutely ridiculous, and I sometimes have trouble figuring out whether I've taken a wrong turn and somehow landed myself in Odyssey Fun World or the Tinley Park Library. I agree with the post of one of the recent patrons who said that the staff tries to get a handle on the noise, but unfortunately I don't think it is quite enough. Perhaps, it would be good to remind patrons by posting courtesy signs reminding them of their whereabouts and setting some expectations. It's very rude and discourteous to the rest of us who are trying to appreciate the library for it's intended serenity. Please get control of your children and teach them what it means to be in the library or that isn't an option consider coming closer to closing time (8:45 pm) when it won't be as disruptive.
