I absolutely love the donation day things, to both clear my drawers, cabinets and craft areas of unneeded items and see if I want any new ones from others. I have found so many gems there. My thanks to the people who set that up. And the computer lab is also wonderful. So glad to be visiting there often, including the free borrowing of puzzles in the front area.

There is clearly a lot to offer, and I appreciate the effort that goes into providing these services to the community. That said, I was disappointed by how frequently the issue of "tax-paying residents" was emphasized during our visit. On multiple occasions, a staff member who goes by the name Charlie, made comments about the library being funded by local taxpayers and emphasized who the library serves. While I completely understand and respect that public libraries are funded through local tax dollars, repeatedly emphasizing this point to visitors--especially children--can create an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere. The library also sends staff to local schools to introduce children to its programs and resources. Since the surrounding school districts include children from communities outside the library's immediate tax base, I believe the messaging should be more inclusive and focused on the resources and educational opportunities available rather than repeatedly emphasizing who pays the taxes. Hearing references to "tax-paying people" at least three separate times during one visit left us feeling as though we were being reminded that we were not necessarily considered part of the community the library was intended to serve. That is unfortunate because libraries should ideally be welcoming spaces where children and families feel encouraged to learn, explore, and participate. While I'm a taxpayer myself, our library does not come to his school, nor do they offer the service we were looking for.

It has a fenced in parking lot to ease your parking concerns. On the day we were there they were having early voting for the Chicago election and as such had a lot of people outside handing out voting suggestions. But on a normal day we are sure the library is much easier to park at and get in to. Inside it is the typical Chicago library - loads of tables/chairs and lots of room. They have a large meeting room on the first floor that was being used for the early voting. This is a nice addition to the neighborhood. We needed to update our CPL library card and that's why we arrived here - their hours are a bit better (opening at 10 am) than many of the other branches which only open at noon on some days. The personnel we worked with were all delightful - especially the lady at the door greeting us with a smile and a hello. All in all a nice library location - give it a try.

I hate the attitude of the freakin' staff members, and I hate how not-on-time they are! This past Saturday, me and several others waited more than 20 minutes for the punks to open up, and it's suppose to open at 9! We didn't enter that joint until around 9:30, because it was supposedly short on staff! They act like they don't care at this branch, about anything hardly. One of them does nothing but complain about the work she has to do it seems. Another thing I hate is the fact that you have to wait a lonnnng time to use a computer at this place, unlike at nearby Thurgood Marshall branch on 75th & Racine. I stayed here from 9:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon, waiting to use my two computer reservations. I wouldn't have waited that long if I was at Thurgood Marshall, and I sure in the hell wouldn't have waited anywhere near as long if I were at Harold Washington Library downtown! Bomb this joint (figuratively though). I hate it!
