Have visited this store about twice a year when in the area for the last 10 years and always appalled at how I was treated by staff (and I'm very happy to be left alone browsing!) Today's experience was so awful that I wish to share it with everyone out there, and will definitely NEVER RETURN to this store again. They've lost my custom for sure now. Think twice before visiting these rude lazy staff and read this review to see why!! I feel strongly enough to write this review (and I'm a super busy person, so don't think I do this sort of thing all the time....it's the first time ever!) Vote with your feet....don't go to Tinkys, it's a dreadful place. The manager is the rude beyond belief and does not understand customer service or repeat business and here's why I feel the need to review the shop and write this.
Firstly staff seem always to only greet local regular customers, chatting at length with them, ignoring completely those they see as "unfamiliar". That includes the manager. That's fine, I'm happy to browse unaided, but I've never even had a "hello" and it's a very small shop! But wait for this. Purchased 3 costume jewellery items today of $25 each and said clearly they were 2 different gifts when I came to pay. They were placed in a pouch and paper bag with tissue. Only when I asked them to gift wrap which I know they do in the back of the store, could they bother to gift wrap properly- they were too lazy to bother with this service for an "unfamiliar" customer. They just assumed wrongly I didn't know they do a proper gift wrap. Shameful, shameful, shameful!
It came to paying. Having bought some gifts (novelty fun gift pens in the shape of lipsticks....not exactly a back-to-school item) in another Key Biscayne store 10 minutes earlier with sales tax NOT added, I asked the assistant of Tinkys whether it was right that they should add the sales tax to these accessory/jewellery items since it's TAX-FREE week in the State of Florida this week. The assistant asked the Manager who simply dismissed my question in the rudest possible way in Spanish not even referring to me despite standing right next to me. So I asked her directly whether they should not be removing the sales tax given it's Tax-free shopping and these 3 jewellery items do meet the criteria. She ignored me totally. Can you imagine? Even the assistant was unsure what to do and everyone was looking at everyone, except the Manager who pretended I wasn't there. OUTRAGEOUS! Pretending not to hear a customer's very valid question? I repeated the question - very politely- and she dismissed it as "it's back to school" items and jewellery doesn't count and just carried on with her flower arranging. It was such a rude and dismissive tone of voice and such a rude short and useless reply that I couldn't just accept that. I explained that I believed it's not just back to school items, but clothing, accessories and shoes that cost under $50 per item and that the tax-free shopping applies to the entire State this week, so should they not participate in that too? Again a totally dismissive rude reply. No explanation, no customer service just a snide remark when I said Macy's do remove the sales tax on jewellery under $50 this week that "Macy's can do what they want, they give 20% all the time". She was totally missing the point. I did pay for the items because I had asked them to gift wrap them, but I should have just walked out there and then. Don't do it.......don't have such a horrible experience......don't go there...... read more
