My wife and I are pleased to recommend Angelika most highly…read more We confronted her with an unusual challenge: How to integrate selected traditional and transitional furnishings and artwork from two large apartments, while updating the look of our pre-war home with a mix of new furnishings and decorative accessories plus several reupholstering jobs. The situation was most challenging in the living room because the space was dominated by a huge and colorful Persian rug plus a voluminous antique, both of which we love and preferred to keep. We had been told by several highly regarded designers we had interviewed previously that the rug and the antique in that living room were in the way of a successful redecoration and thus "had to go." But then we met Angelika, and she didn't think ours was a case of "Mission Impossible." She rose to the challenge with open-mindedness, imagination, flexibility and sensitivity to art, space and design. She found ways to mix, match and move around existing furnishings, art and fixtures while guiding us to new pieces, exquisite fabrics and excellent suppliers. The artwork was displayed in a manner such that connections were made within each room and also from one room to the next - a visually stunning achievement. The result is a beautiful, space-efficient, and thematically coherent new whole. Congratulations, Angelika!

Working with Alicia, the lead designer of Broooklinteriors made my life easier and way more…read morebeautiful! I found Brooklinteriors on instagram and was originally struck by how, unlike many designers, Alicia did not adhere to a single style across all her projects, but really understood the style of each client. I checked a bunch of her references (because I was very nervous about finding someone on social media!) and they all said the same thing: you get so much more than what you're paying for when you work with Brooklinteriors. I have found that to be true a hundred times over. Alicia helped us put the finishing touches on our home renovation project--sourcing and positioning cabinet pulls, fixing lighting problems, and designing and upholstering a window seat cushion. Then we moved on the furnishings--the fun part. After creating a inspiration board, Alicia researched and presented me with many options for dining tables, couches, chairs, and more. I was struck by all the interesting, often local, and affordable companies she sourced pieces from--pillows from two sisters who are based in my neighborhood, a USA made leather ottoman with a cool table that nests on top-- she introduced me to so many brands and craftsmen that I had never heard of! She found gorgeous art and accessories made by artists that we are very happy to showcase in our home. Alicia managed the ordering, schedule, and even a couple tricky returns/refunds for everything we picked. She is meticulous and her attention to detail throughout the entire process was super-human! Throughout the project, she was respectful of our budget--never suggesting or pushing anything outrageous and often finding pieces that were priced lower than I anticipated paying. She was also very open to feedback, if a piece wasn't quite right, she wasn't married to it, and would quickly find new options for that space. The overall effect is a home that truly represents our lifestyle and aesthetic, but with more unique and interesting elements than we could have designed on our own. I'm eager to do another part of my house so Alicia can work with us again. That being said, she never really stops working on a project--she thinks of me often for little additions (like art) that we may want to add to the space and pops by whenever I have questions about what to do next. I started working with Alicia at a time when our lives were pretty chaotic--I was starting my own business and moving into a new home, among other things--it was so nice to have Alicia leading the design. She made my life SO MUCH EASIER and besides that, she's just a lovely human being to have around.

Her guidance on everything from furniture placement to accents to wall decor was not only spot on, but she had tremendous patience as we changed our mind often and would start again on ideas or concepts. She also took into account the materials being safe for our baby, which is so important. Without Clare's help, we wouldn't have survived these processes. Clare is superb at communicating, followup, and anticipating and preventing problems. He's more laid back, and I'm more on the traditional side so we were at a loss on how to make everything work together. Even more so, we were combining two different apartments into one - not any easy task considering how small apartments in NYC are. Mindy, our designer, was great at taking cues from both of us and working around us when things would get too complicated. Not only was she extremely helpful in helping us edit, but she also had some genius storage solutions for our small home. STAY AWAY. I waited…read morea while to write this review since I wanted to let my anger abate and I was busy with other things. But months later I feel a moral obligation to warn people about this company. If like me, you will likely read the reviews and the owner's responses and suspect that they are a good company and that the bad reviews are just from impossible people. But they quell the bad reviews with small payouts and gag orders (see the photo). They use contract workers who may or may not be able to get the job done. The discounts they promise never come true. In fact they quoted more than I would pay as a regular retail customer, for every single item I asked them about. (notice that they don't list the specifics of their discounts on their website...) When asked to come through on what they promise, they are unhelpful at best and often nasty (read the owner's comments on bad reviews to get a taste). When your project has gone on way too long, they haven't come through on any promises and you are at wits end, they may offer you a small sum to not write a bad review. I suspect that many of us, on modest budgets, take the money just to cut some of our losses. Before you get taken in by the good reviews and the pretty pictures, read the reviews again. Notice there are almost no reviews in the middle, only really bad and really glowing ones. The good ones all start to sound the same. Go to a website where employees write reviews and note that many say the company writes their own good reviews. See that gag order and think of how many people they silenced. I am out a lot of money and hope this review saves someone else.

Fan-tastic. I kinda…read morefelt weird about hiring a designer for my space, but I'm glad I did. Use What You Have basically helps you rearrange what you have into a better layout, then offers options for further customization on your own. They'll help you move furniture, go through catalogs, look online, and just be really collaborative in the design process. I pretty much hated all of my furniture, so we didn't do too much rearranging (besides for placeholding purposes), but we spent a ton of time going over purchasing options. In the end, we put together a full design plan for each area of the space, with specific pieces to model against or just buy right out. I worked with Tracy, one of their senior designers, but they only charged me the junior designer rate, which was nice. She was great to work with, and even dealt with my large, overly-nosy pit bull like a champ. And she bought me lunch. Price-wise, expect $350 for a standard sized room, $700 for a "double" room. I did almost my entire loft for about $1200 including travel fees to Brooklyn. I was hoping to get lucky and do the whole thing for $350, but they do measure, and they stick to their fee schedule pretty closely. Whatever though, it was well worth it for what I wanted.

When my husband and I recently moved into a new apartment it was a no brainer to contact Lauri Ward again. Two weeks ago, Lauri came to my apartment and created a plan for each room. Her suggestions were simple, practical and elegant, which was just what we wanted. Being a novice in the world of interior design requires assistance and Lauri Ward's has been invaluable! I unconditionally recommend Lauri's firm for any redecorating project.
