The trio plate. Rib, sausage and shredded brisket.
    Gary R.

This is for the Pearl Highlands restaurant. I was waiting for them to open heard such great reviews at other locations. First grip was the brisket was shredded, I think of brisket as a slice of meat. It also was dry such a disappointment. The sausage was great, get it with the onions and peppers. The rib was so so kinda bland and chewy. I was expecting more from this place but it was only average. Like other reviews green beans were soggy and Mac cheese was watery. The search goes on for that perfect bbq

Beef Brisket was the bomb nice and moist and BBQ sauce was spicy and nice!

Wow I usually are skeptical about eating at a BBQ place because usually the beef brisket is dry as heck! But I must say theirs are moist and the BBQ sauce is spicy and nice! They have spicy Mac and cheese which my bf has he said it was overcooked but the flavor was nice! Nice change from the regular food here and nice surprise!

Brisket plate with mac & cheese and green bean with bacon - $12

Thought I'd try the food truck parked at Alii Place downtown. Should thought about it when there was no line. Ordered the brisket plate, mac & cheese and green beans with bacon $12. Brisket - not bad, soft, juicy. Mac & cheese - watery and tasted a little sour, decided not to finish that since it might be bad. Green beans - ok although mushy and 1 tiny piece of bacon. All in all I'll pass the next time.

Just had the Pearl City Location Decided to try the new place in the food court and boy was that a mistake!! I'm from the south and the only thing on my plate that was remotely good was the ribs. The Mac and cheese tasted like yellow raw noodles (try baking it and adding some seasoning) the baked beans were okay.. had the apple pie for dessert and YUCK it was nearly FROZEN and seemed like it NEEDED to be baked before being served... overall I'll never eat here again but the ribs gave the two stars. Kinda pricey for food that I wouldn't even give a homeless dude...

Tin Hut was recently the food truck to pop up outside of Brewseum during trivia night so my boyfriend & I checked it out. Not sure of their normal location but this was by Ward area when I ran into them. The menu is pretty straight forward featuring 4 different meats: pulled pork, st louis style ribs, smoked chicken & beef brisket and 7 signature sides: smoked bbq beans, mac & cheese, spicy mac & cheese, white rice, pineapple coleslaw, potato salad & green beans with bacon/onion. You can choose a regular plate [$12] featuring one meat choice and 2 signature sides or for the same price, make it a Take Two and choose two meats. There is also a meat trio platter option [$14] if you're really indecisive. For the less hungry there is a lighter fare option [$8] with one meat and one side. They also offer two sandwiches [$10 - pulled pork or beef brisket] which can be made into a plate for $2 more. We decided to try a Take Two choosing pulled pork and brisket as our meats with mac & cheese and BBQ beans. We also got a side of spicy mac & cheez separately. They have containers of bbq sauce on the side you can squirt all over your food to your liking. I only took a little at first and we wound up going back to the truck to slather our meat in more. Both of the meats were cooked well, juicy and flavorful. The sauce was just a bonus. Only downfall was we felt like there wasn't enough brisket portion wise while the pork seemed like the right amount and the brisket was good. BBQ beans were actually on point, simple and old school type but perfect match. The mac and cheese was good; nothing to rave about but creamy, cheesy and again, good match with the bbq meats. The $3 side portion of spicy mac and cheese was excellent in size and delicious with bits of jalepenos throughout. Our food was tasty and the staff in the truck were friendly. While I understand BBQ isn't cheap, I do think the plate prices are a bit high for the portions but the sides are a fantastic deal.

We hired Tin Hut BBQ to cater our wedding - it was excellent!!! The staff was friendly and accommodating, and overall seemed very excited to be a part of our wedding day! Frank was helpful in creating our menu and determining how much we needed based on our guest list. The food was a perfect fit for what we were looking for in a wedding meal - something filling that most people enjoy! It was a great way to combine food interests of my husband's local family in Hawaii and my family from the midwest. The prices for catered food from this company are very reasonable, especially when it comes to a wedding. We ordered pulled pork, chicken thighs, brisket, mac & cheese, rice and the pineapple slaw. All were wonderful, but the sides really tied the whole thing together nicely! Photography: Amy Vafa Photography Venue: YWCA Kokokahi

My first time eating from this food truck! Disappointed!! $12 plates meals .. Look like leftover foods.. definitely, not coming back for less foods .. just enough foods for my doggie to eat!

Yummmm. Free Delivery too! Last minute looking for something for a bday party. Stumbled upon these guys. Easy communication great food arrived early and everyone enjoyed the left overs. Wish I tried to order dessert

Beef brisket, mashed potato, mac and cheese. Gravy all over the brisket and mashed potato, bbq sauce drizzled over the brisket.

Tried Tinhut BBQ when the food truck came down to Nimitz. The portion size was great for the price. I ordered the beef brisket, mashed potato and gravy, and mac and cheez. For $12 it kept me full for lunch and past dinner! The gravy was perfect but the mashed potatoes were a little watery and the mac and cheez was almost as good as my grandmother's homemade baked mac and cheese! The beef brisket was tender and fell apart once the fork touched it! Our whole office enjoyed it very much! Too bad their food truck doesn't come down to Nimitz more often!

I chose the simple Shinramyun ya not the brightest choice on this humid day but didn't want something too heavy as it just need a bit of fuel to get me going and this spot was definitely on my list. Love that they put the spice level beside each item for a heads up the staff here is nice and as they were more flooded with orders than I realized as they do take phone orders it did take a bit for my order. Since I was dining right there among the bench it didn't need to be separated and loved that it was served on a tray along with a side of kimchee yum the ramyun had a soft cooked egg and some carrots a nice and simple snack which gave me much needed boost though as it was basically no different than a bowl of instant noodle this was crazy overpriced and glad that I didn't get the soft tofu which was $13.50 which I didn't need that type of spice in my life. Thank you!

Be prepared to wait around 45-60 minutes as it is just her and 1 kitchen crew. The wait was well worth it for the most delicious Nigerian food I've had on the island. Jollof Rice came with Oxtail & Jerk Chicken so we could try both and they were seasoned immaculately. The Jollof rice has some heat that builds as you eat it and the oxtail was a hefty piece. The jerk chicken had a nice spice & sear to it, it provided a nice balance to the fatty oxtail. There is also pieces of plantain that come with this plate. Fufu is neutral flavored pounded yam (comparable texture to a stickier mashed potato) - It pairs well with the smokey, earthy & spicy flavors of the Egusi Soup. The soup is very hearty and more akin to a stew with how much protein & veggies are in the bowl. My total came out to $51.00 for these three items.

Very nice lady but is also unorganized and has no efficient system as a business owner. Wait times are longer because of this. She takes my cash but doesn't always give back my change right away, then will forget the amount of cash I've handed her. She often asks to be reminded of what you ordered, and when you think you're done ordering, she asks you to come back to the window to ask additional questions about your order. Instead of waiting until the entire order is complete, she brings out the plates at different times and has asked another customer to bring back the first half of their order and show her to make sure she doesn't give them extra food. She would benefit from using a simple receipt book so she doesn't have to rely just on memory and she can give the customers a numbered ticket to call when their order is ready. She only takes CASH or VENMO which is fine. But I have seen her take the order and make the food before the customer pays, and then get into conflict when the customer does not have any form of payment. Confirming payment first will save a lot of troubles. She's no longer in a fixed location, and now takes her truck to various spots around the island, mostly on base or Waipio. I recommend following her instagram but she unfortunately doesn't post her location until the day of. She doesn't post her schedule in advance, making it very hard to track her down. I used to come often when she was at the old Sear's parking lot. So it's been months until I finally had a day off and was relieved to find she was in Waipio -- just to find that her efficiency hasn't improved since the last time I came. I love that she's getting more business but I cannot keep coming back if this is the service every time. She definitely could use more helping hands.
