Dr. says he will call me back regarding lab results in about a week. Two weeks later, after hearing nothing, I call them. They get back to me and the phone staff tells me, "The doctor said everything is OK." Meanwhile, the original reason I had come in is totally unresolved. No mention of it by the doctor or his staff. I pay a lot for my med insurance. This level of service is simply unacceptable.

Dr Strayer was recommended to me by my yoga teacher, who says he has healed her in one visit on 3 occasions, and I expected he would be something like a chiropractor. When pressed, in fact, he describes himself as a cross between an MD and a chiropractor... but he's something different altogether. An extremely well-informed, highly trained, highly skilled (he does acupuncture and gentle kinesthetic manipulations), eastern-and-western-medicine-embracing healer. During our detailed interview and clothes-on checkup (thank you!), he figured out that I had a more serious medical condition than the one I was concerned about, and he also figured out how both were related to a previous condition which had persisted unnoticed by me. He's not part of any insurance network (though you can get out-of-network benefits if you have PPO insurance, and can charge to flexible spending if you've got it), so visits to Dr Strayer may be pricey, but he'll help you get as much treatment as you can through insured providers, and even if you only go for an initial consult, his advice will be worth it. He's a general practitioner, and also an expert in musculouskeletal issues and medical acupuncture. When necessary, he won't hesitate to recommend surgery or drugs, so you needn't worry about mumbo jumbo here. Expect to wait a few weeks before you can get an intake appointment, as Dr Strayer is in high demand.
