My husband and I went to this restaurant last night. The staff was great. We ordered the Caesar salad which was edible. I ordered a Penne pasta that was un edible I sent it back,. my husband ordered one of their specials, black ink pasta with seafood. It had absolutely no flavor and the seafood was ice cold inside. Although the food is good, we were unable to enjoy it because the level of noise was so high that we couldn't maintain a conversation or even comment on the food with my partner. To me if a restaurant is not careful about this significant detail, it's not worth going back. I go to a restaurant to meet with friends and eat. The ambience makes it joyful or not inviting to come back. Food alone is only 50% of enjoyment. Why is it that some of the best restaurants in Florida are located in these non descript strip malls? Well such is the case of Timo. I almost drove past it as it is sitting in a little strip mall. While there is limited parking in the front, pull around back as there is a huge parking lot! On this Saturday night, we started our evening at the bar with some perfectly poured drinks. Even better were the locals who were friendly and chatting with us while we caught up. It was great that it wasn't too busy as we were never rushed to go to our table. Once seated, our server was great in explaining the menu and the various specials of the day. I started with this amazing english pea bisque with crab meat. Wow! Thick and creamy but not heavy, this goes in my book as one of my favorite starters. As for my entree- I went with the NY strip that was quite food and I loved the creamy polenta that went along with it. They have a nice wine list with some of our favs on it so that made wine choosing easy. And they have a range of desserts but after all that food a simple gelato fit the bill perfectly. This place was yummy. Locals complained about not having the oysters or mushroom salad - the chef changed up the menu, but everything was to our liking. We got the skirt steak, brussel sprouts, scallops, Caesar, pear salad and pizza. The steak was a very healthy portion, and the huge steak cut fries were more than anyone could handle. It would be nice if there was a vegetable served with it so we didn't have to order two separately. The scallops were cooked well. They had an appetizer version, and they could make it an entree portion, which was nice. Something is preventing me from giving 5 stars, and I think it was the pizza I ordered. I got the black and white pizza, which had shaved truffles on it. However, I think they would have been better off just topping the pizza with some truffle oil because those little pieces didn't do anything for me and were concentrated all on one spot of the pizza. read more

Timo is an overlooked GEM, and a godsend for those of us in the northern part of the county. The dining room is nearly empty on the 2 weekdays I went this summer, yet the kitchen is working absolute magic (today for an audience of one). Today's "gnocchi" (almost like a filled pierogi) was one of the best bites I've had in 2016. If you are a local resident or a guest in the city in August/September, coming by for the discounted "Miami Spice" meals here are an absolute must. I came in August, and again in September (today), not realizing the menu changed for the second month. Had I known that, I would have been here weeks earlier. Everything in both versions of the lunch menu was fantastic and an insane deal for $23. Timo always does fish dishes very well, and it's pastas are also tops. If you are with a lighter eater, there are lots of affordable pizzas from the wood-burning oven in the open kitchen. The pastry chef is also a star: everything is beautiful, and today's fig tart was almost too appealing to eat. Chef Tim's other restaurant a couple of doors down, Basil Park, closed since my 2014 review, and I want to do my small part to ensure TIMO does not suffer a similar fate: it is one of the best places in this half of the county, and my hands-down favorite in Sunny Isles, where I used to live in Ocean One just up the street. read more

Timo never seems to disappoint. The food is always amazing. The service is second to none... From Brian and Tamara at host, to Jonathan, Gary, Chuck, et all serving, and Olga at the bar, it always feels like home when I'm there. Tonight I started with the ROASTED MOZZARELLA WITH PROSCIUTTO, SWEET PEPPERS, EGGPLANT AND HEIRLOOM TOMATO, and then had the YELLOWTAIL SNAPPER WITH CLAMS, SHRIMP, and ORZO for the entree. They were both amazing as usual. Olga then sold me on the STRAWBERRY PANA COTTA dessert, which really topped on my taste buds for the night. They have also recently completed some upgrades. All the chairs in the bar area have been replaced, and the front windows can now be completely opened for fresh air during reasonable temperatures. My husband and I just finished eating here. Timo's is easy to access, with parking available. The interior is very well styled and appointed. Now to the good part-- the service was impeccable; the food was excellent. I had the butternut squash soup to start- wonderful presentation and taste-highly recommend-- followed by the black grouper on a winter squash-ample portion and excellent texture and taste. My husband started off with the gem lettuce salad and said it was quite good, followed by the skirt steak with chimmichuri--he said best he's had. Server was continually attentive without being overbearing--very professional and courteous. From start to finish, all was excellent about Timo's. This was one of two upscale Italian restaurants I went to recently and I must admit that Timo disappointed me. The decor is fairly sophisticated and inviting for a South Florida restaurant. We got seated right away at 6pm on a weeknight without a reservation. Husband and I shared a Caesar Salad. Now I know there is not much to a Caesar Salad, but this one was terrible. The lettuce was limp, there were about 3 small croutons, and the dressing was lumpy and bland. It was really just very unappetizing. For a main, I got the Monkfish. It came with clams, calamari, mussels, and was perfectly cooked. My issue was with the thick tomato sauce the fish was cooked in. It was totally bland. The sauce needed a bit of heat, more garlic, some herbs, spices......something! My husband had a similar issue with the Skirt Steak he ordered. It was cooked perfectly and the consistency was butter soft. The problem? Also that the steak had absolutely no flavor. The fries that came with the steak were huge and bland as well. Now when North Miami Beach was a haven for senior citizens there might have been a reason for this mild tasting food (and lack of salt) but not anymore. The chef at Timo should have a meal at "Caffe Vialetto", an Italian restaurant in Coral Gables that I just reviewed. The food there had bold, brilliant flavors that just tickled my taste buds. The food at Timo was not bad, just boring. Service was lacking too. Our server was friendly but completely abandoned us at times. Drink refills were practically nonexistent. Believe it or not, I would like to give Timo another chance. I realize we only tried three items. Also, we did not try some items that were recommended to me, like the Black & White Pizza and homemade pastas. For some reason on that particular night I was trying to limit my carbs. After having it on my must-try list for a very long time, I finally made it south to Timo's. We had 7:30, Friday night reservations. Our friends weren't there yet when we arrived, but the hostess was very nice and sat us right away anyway. The crowd gradually shifted throughout the night; first it was mostly families and older (65+) couples, then it was a much younger, well dressed, rowdier crowd. One thing was consistent: it was absolutely packed every single minute. Here's why: Black and White Pizza: this is the reason I will return time and time again.....fresh ricotta, mozzarella, provolone with shaved truffles. Sigh. A thin, yet soft crust. Allvery simple ingredients and very well made. I am in love with this pizza! We ordered it as an appetizer to try it, but next time I just might take one to go! Truffle and Egg Raviolo: a raviolo, with an O is one single, large, round ravioli. Although it is not anything like my favorite raviolo (Bottega in Napa), it is still a darn good one. Spinach and egg inside just waiting to ooze out from one touch of the knife topped with a mushroom sauce. Homemade ricotta in it as well...mmm mmm mmm Whole Grilled Local Yellowtail Snapper: Japanese eggplant and fire roasted peppers. This is the one I liked the least. If you order this, make sure you love peppers. The dish brings a lot of them and it's very overwhelming. It takes over the entire dish. Black Grouper and Lobster Risotto: this was delicious and I was too full to even finish it (although I tried!) Chocolate pot au creme: I didn't care for the eclair that topped it but the actual creme part was absolutely divine. I would like to have this one again. Brown Butter Soufflé: candied peanuts, vanilla gelato and caramel. Not as decadent as it sounds (or as I like), but it was still good. Service was good. We always had enough refills, silverware, and just enough attention. Timo's is hidden in a strip mall off Collins Ave. in Sunny Isles. Parking is hard to come by, but they do offer valet parking as an option. The menu features many entrees I want to try and I will do just that when I return soon! read more

Miami Spice is here! I love when its more than 2 because we can sample more delicious items. We were 3 ladies, walked in at 9:30 pm with no reservation. The staff sat us immediately. Complimentary bread arrived while we looked over the Miami Spice menu. We ordered the Hamachi & Tuna crudo, carbonara w/ homemade pancetta & a short rib flatbread w/ figs. Wow wow wow. All were delicious. The portions were incredibly generous. We ordered the duck breast & 2 orders of the orecchiette pasta w lamb for entrees. Again, amazing. The lamb was tender and the duck was cooked well. I cant get over these portions; not typical of miami spice. Lastly, the corn on the cone & 2 orders of the cheese cake for dessert. Omg, have you ever tried corn icecream? you havent lived. We added a mushroom truffle risotto (off the miami spice menu). It was perfection. It wasnt enough for the 3 of us. Star dishes: Appetizer - short rib flatbread w/ figs (****) Entree - orecchiette pasta w/ lamb (****) Dessert - corn on the cone (*****) Side - truffle risotto (*****) This restaurant is located in Sunny Isles. I had this place bookmarked since my January trip to Miami so I told myself I would dine here on my next trip. And so I did. Made my reservation via Yelp. I was a little sketchy about that since I had never reserved without talking to someone live on the phone --especially on mothers day. The restaurant is very unassuming on the outside, but quite elegant within its doors. Dimly lit, perfect for a date. Unfortunately, we had a large family with three loudly irritating kids. ugh. (this had no bearing on my review). Our waiter was gracious enough to apologize for the killed ambiance and was rather funny the entire time. I'm a sucker for a good breadbasket. Not even gonna lie. Timo had one of the best bread baskets I've had in a long time. Warm, crusty, soft, chewy, salty--all texture and taste needs for starchy carbs were met. Plus some butter. lots of butter. My date wasn't too excited about this place, but he was sweet enough to bring me here anyway. It was basically up to me to order and finish our entrees. We ordered the braised short rib lasagna, rigatoni and sausage, and an order of risotto. Gosh, I love me some risotto. It was creamy, truffle-y and perfectly done. I also thoroughly enjoyed the short rib lasagna. Definitely in a class of it's own with the truffle "gravy". Deeeeeelish. I killed that quick. I wasn't too ecstatic about the rigatoni. It just wasn't a cohesive dish overall. How disappointing. Luckily, our molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream TOTALLY redeemed that failed rigatoni. It was that good. and YES i ate most of that too. Wonderful experience at Timo. Glad it was walking distance from our hotel because I surely needed that walk after. read more

I wanted to love this place. The food, ambience, anything. I STILL want to love Timo and plan to give it another try, but when my husband and I took out an important business client (also considering we live across the street), I was sadly underwhelmed by the food, ambience, & service. Our server in general was phenomenal and I feel awful for not remembering his name.. but he was over sat, so drink & food orders were pretty slow to come out, the tables are close together so people are constantly bumping into the back of your chair, or in my case, children running behind me constantly, it was pretty dark in the restaurant so it was difficult for someone whose hard of hearing to be able to make out the words across the table of a loud, dark restaurant, and the food was simply, meh. From a northern Italian, and her Sicilian husband, for people to tell us this is the best Italian food & restaurant around was disheartening. Praying they can redeem themselves when I decide to give this place another chance. read more

I am a local. I have eaten in Timo twice. First time was amazing and our server was super kind. Great service. For the second time it wasn't that great. Server was super rude in the beginning. My mother and I were kind of shocked of how rude he was being. (I assumed because we did not order alcohol or the most expensive plates, I don't know. Sometimes people are rude just because). I think someone overheard us talking about it or something because all of a sudden he changed his attitude. We left him a good tip because we know that being a server is hard work. Nice restaurant for a date night. The atmosphere is dimly lit with a host at the front. Parking is limited but it's free in the front. There is a great selection of seafood, pizza, chicken and appetizers. I ordered the Amish Chicken which was juicy and had vegetables. The servings are very generous. The free bread was great and had a unique crunchy bread. There is a special part of the menu with their favorites, I would recommend any of those (we tried the mozzarella which was amazing)! I've been coming here for over ten years. The food is consistently delicious, the service is friendly and attentive, and the ambience is wonderful. Their homemade pastas are always a hit- you really cannot go wrong w/ the featured gnocchi or ravioli. Their fish dishes are always spectacular- nothing fishy, and very hearty, while still being lite! The stars on the menu tend to be the sharing plates, as well as the pizzas! They are super thin and coal oven cooked without being burnt and black. We always have the black truffle one. We also had the burrata ravioli which was decadent and yummy!
