Last week, there was an 80 foot Monterey Cypress in my backyard that needed to come down. My housemate hired Timberwood Tree Service to do the job. The cost of this project was much less expensive than other estimates that we were given. A definite plus. The four men who did the job were incredible. The fellow who worked up the trunk of the tree, cutting branches one by one, was precise, fast, and amazing. It was a BIG tree. It's hard to describe how pleasant the workers were. They worked SO hard, and each of them was very strong. I personally know no one who could carry those huge pieces of wood. They were immense! The guys remained cheerful. Another plus. The initial point of contact is Anita. She is incredibly sweet, and professional. She set-up an appointment for her husband to come out and give an estimate. He was professional, and it took less than 10 minutes for him to evaluate our needs. He emailed a quote the same day. In terms of affordability...he beat every other quote I received. Initially they didnt have any availability for a month. I booked the date anyway (because its a great deal), but Anita apologized profusely and told me if any cancellations occurred, she would contact us sooner. To my surpirse, she did! Two days later, she called me and said she had an opening. They arrived the next morning. The crew was an hour early (imagine that, most people are late). They were so professional! They pruned 11 HUGE palm trees, and cleaned as they went along. My trees look GORGEOUS!! After trimming the trees they blew the entire property with a blower to ensure nothing was left behind. They were fine with trimming the tree. However beware they trample plants beneath the tree and around. No concern for anything other then the tree. So if you have plants around the tree don't expect them to remain untouched. They don't bother to put pots back where they originally were. Very disappointing. We're giving Timberwood 5 Stars and here's why ~ What was once a table-top Christmas centerpiece, was now a 34 year-old, beautiful, perfectly-shaped and mature 45' tall cypress in our backyard ~ Now, a very large tree in need of a thorough thinning, shaping and trim. We very particularly concerned about getting someone who understood our wish to maintain the shape and visual aesthetic of the tree. It was a beauty and we wanted to make sure the work was done by someone who understood we wanted more than a quick cut-and-go job. We wanted a thorough thinning of the tree's interior and a tighter trim of the entire crown while maintaining the contour of the tree. In a nutshell, we wanted a thoughtful and professional arborist and crew and not a crew cutting off limbs and hoping we'd like the result. We contacted 7 companies; five of which responded and 3 of which provided estimates. Of the 3 estimates and meetings, we chose Sean at Timberwood pretty much because of the way he handled the first meeting. Sean did a walk-around of our trees and listened to our concerns and expectations. He talked about specific details and how he'd approach the project, and deliver the results we were looking for. He was direct, professional and casually confident in his presentation ~ and clearly understood what we were looking for. In a nutshell, he got it. His wasn't the lowest bid but at this point we knew we would get value received and were excited about the project. On the scheduled day the crew showed up exactly on time and went directly to work. I think it's important to add they came very well equipped; a big clean truck pulling a state-of-the art chipper, all professionally branded and clearly all the right gear. Good on-the-job presence. Full marks for the Timberwood team as well. The crew included James, Alex and Eduardo who is the climber and in-the-tree cutter. They were on time, on purpose and worked in what seemed like a frictionless, confident manner. That was apparent from the moment Eduardo went into the tree. Eduardo was precise and thoughtful with every cut. James and Alex were on-the-ground spotters and helped in directing the precision cuts. It went like clockwork. Cleanup was the cherry on top...the crew left both ours and our neighbor's yard cleaner than before they started. It was just great attention to detail. We purchased a new home and at first loved the mature trees in the front and backyard..... The yard had been neglected and we are avid gardeners so naturally we started caring for them. Well, they quickly took to our care but grew far faster/thicker then we even thought possible. It was then we started to become concerned about proximity to our home, the neighbours, and our vehicles. We received several quotes before a colleague suggested Anita and Shawn @ Timberwood Tree Service.... It was obvious during the first call Anita & Shawn were passionate, experienced, professionals, and could trim or remove the trees... but Shawn is a arborist and was the only one out of 5 bids to accurately tell us what kind of tree we were dealing with..... It is a species that NEVER should be planted in a residential setting due to evasive root system, unstable branch and trunk structure, and it drops something.... ALL YEAR. Shawn advised that he hates to remove trees, but in our situation, it was the best option. It pained us to do it.... but in the end.... it was the right thing to do. The work was done safely, the crew did a amazing job cleaning up all debris, grinded the stump.... all for less then all the bids we received. Since our tree removal, three of the neighbours have done theirs also. Plus, Anita in the office is hilarious and ON IT. I've used this company for a total of three times. Twice in 2021. I initially got a quote from them in 2021 for our olive tree. My husband thought the quote was a bit pricey and hired a cheaper service; guess what? I had to call them back to fix it. Both Shawn and Anita are worth their weight in gold. Another 5-star experience with Timberwood. We lost a huge limb from the Silver Dollar in front of the house a couple weeks ago, and with the suddenly relentless storms, I began to worry about losing more, downing the power lines, etc. Of course I should have taken care of this during the long dry summer - but I didn't. Timberwood to the rescue. They somehow managed to fit me into their schedule. I was at work - I asked for an aggressive prune of the tree, and was a bit nervous about what I would come home to last night. Basically - the job was PERFECT. The tree is balanced, graceful, and all the suspicious limbs and deadwood had vanished. Bonnie and I did all this over the phone - usually trading messages because we missed each other. This is the second time I am hiring his team and both times his service exceeded our expectations! The crew came on time, removed huge trees once from our back yard in San Francisco and second time from the front yard of my house in Emeryville. I've used TImberwood several times over the last few years, so you'd think I would get better service: -Every time I call they seem to not know who I am. Really? -Every time we schedule an appointment it takes several back-and-forths to do so, and they're always late if they show up at all. They rarely answer the phone and rarely return messages. They have no email or other way to be reached. -They came by earlier this week to bid some work, said they'd put an estimate in my mailbox the next day. I stressed that I needed the work done soon as my neighbor wants to paint his house and the trees are up against it. -They have now dropped off the face of the earth. No estimate, no return calls (their voicemail is full). I'm done with these folks. read more

Didn't show up TWICE! So I used Timberwood once and had a great experience so...as a repeat customer called to get Shawn out for a quote (even though I was fine to go ahead and schedule without a quote because I found the pricing fair the previous time) on a Saturday morning between 10AM and 12PM. At noon, the office manager called me saying Shawn was running late. At 1:30PM and still no show, I called the office because I wasn't given his cell and no answer. He never showed up! On Monday I get a call from the Office Manager who tells me he came but didn't know what bell to ring. Seriously? I live in a 5 unit building, just ring em' all and you should have my number! Clearly that was a fib....so apologetically she reschedules the quote for the following Saturday between 8AM and 10AM. Guess what? NO SHOW AGAIN! I should invoice Timberwood for five and a half hours of my wasted time waiting for them to stand me up! What do I have to do around here to get my trees trimmed? read more

I have to say that after 3 days and 3 calls, you get the feeling that either they are disorganized, don't care about my business, or just not professional. I had them trim the tree in front of my home a few years ago and they did a great job at a very reasonable price. I referred to my previous business with them in my voicemails. You'd think that if they were very busy, they would have the courtesy to call and just say that they are booked for the next xx of weeks. I can't echo the other reviews enough. Shawn and Ramona were very responsive, came out quickly to give me an estimate and priced their work way way below what I imagined the service was going to cost me. I was remodeling my house, had removed the sidewalk, and wanted to protect and trim the roots of the tree adjacent to the sidewalk to make sure it was healthy and survived the remodel plus the branches needed some serious attention. For under $200, Timberwood came out, trimmed the roots and covered them with dirt the same day I called and came back later to trim the tree, leaving it balanced and happy-looking without overly thinning it or causing me to lose the lovely foliage it provided in front of my home's bedroom windows. Great customer service and excellent job on cutting down my big old tree in my yard. The tree was so big that it was covering my entire bedroom window which also block a lot of natural light from the sun. Found Timberwood tree services on Yelp and called for an estimate. Estimate was quick and easy and reasonable priced! Would recommend them to my friends and strangers who need to remove, trim or anything that needs to be done. The only reason why I didn't give 5 stars because they had to reschedule my tree appt at least tree times due to timing/traffic issues. I was understandable and accommodating but was really annoyed because i had to make sure If anyone was free to be at my house.
