A coffee shop named the best in Europe and the second-best in the world is worth a visit, even if it means standing in line for at least 30 minutes. Around 11am on a Friday in August, the line was about that. Once in the front, we ordered lattes and cappuccino fredo. Both were excellent, but the fredo took the cake. It's worth noting that the coffee leans more acidic. If you don't love acidic coffee, you may be a little disappointed. Again, it's still worth a visit. Excellent coffee awaits at Tim Wendelboe, they have a stripped down menu to focus on quality over quantity. There are different varieties of coffee to try as a simple pour (or a tasting of two), as well as a few espresso drinks (cappuccino, latte, etc) and a few cold options. I had the Colombian origin pour when I visited, nice and simple. It tasted great, and they clearly put a lot of effort into the process and the pour to ensure the beans could do the speaking; no milk or sugar for this cup! I enjoyed my cup, glad I visited such an esteemed coffee haven. Worth the hype. This is a hard core coffee joint! Voted number 2 best coffee house in the world this year. They have a nice filtered coffee menu - all light roast to bring out the flavours of the beans. Aeropress is their device of choice. Tried a Kenyan peaberry - they have custom ceramics that your coffee is served in. As it's a hardcore coffee place - no sugar or milk or cream. The coffee has to do all the talking. They do have espresso based drinks as well but did not try. Seating space is quite small considering the popularity of this place. Glad it wasn't busy on a mid afternoon on a wintry Friday. This is a definitely for coffee lover. Hardcore place to be for some fine coffee experience. The place is small, clean with a handful-was of tables and chairs (first come, 1st serve). Small menu to choose from, or you can ask them their recommendations or your preference. I order 3 different type of coffees, and my kid ordered one with less caffeine. Take awhile since this is quite popular and a hype since it got #1 coffee place in the world for few years and as of 2025, it's #2. Just say that I was in heaven for at least 25-30mins. The beans, the smells, the tastes are quite different on each drink. The aroma, the strong, bitter taste lingering in your throat slowly and let it defined gradually. Just pure heaven. This was consistently rated tops in Oslo so I had to check it out myself. I went here a little before noon and the place was packed. Luckily there was one seater next to a group of three. After taking a seat, it takes time to have your hand crafted drink served to you but it's well worth it. I passed the time by people watching. It's definitely a mixture of locals and tourists alike. Came by for coffee the other day and it was a surprisingly mediocre experience. Tim Wendelboe is apparently a top 100 coffee shop in the world...I'm confused. The coffee shop is a 10 minute tram ride from Sentrum. There were seats both indoors and out. Staff wore a uniform and were friendly. I would say that you have to understand that they specialize in aeropress (filter coffee) for their "pour-over" equivalent and you may also have espresso based drinks. the staff really knows their coffees and if you are someone who wants to understand more, please ask questions. inside vibe is cool-- there's people there to meet, have conversations, to work quietly, but sometimes it can get crowded. no other things are served here besides beans, brew equipment, and coffee, so you will have to get your pastries elsewhere. note that the roasting profile is light-medium so there's more of a tea-like quality to the coffees and espressos. if you don't prefer that in your espresso, then ask for the filter coffee instead. read more

Tim Wendelboe is a coffee shop that my friend recommended during our trip to Norway, as he had seen some videos of influencers praising the quality of their coffee. After spending some time outside in the cold, we were looking forward to trying the warm beverages that this place provided. Upon entry, there was a long line that extended from the counter all the way to door which tipped me off about the popularity of this coffee shop. While the shop itself is on the small side, the interior is quite bright and nice to sit in. The baristas were professional and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about all the different coffee offerings that they have. I decided to try out the Cappuccino Al Fredo as that was one of their specialty drinks. This was a really interesting drink, as I've never had coffee as silky and foamy as this one. Really enjoyed my experience at Time Wendelboe. I did the coffee tasting which is built for two but I did it by myself. About $20 USD for tastings of four coffees, definitely a fair price. I requested to try one coffee and the barista created an experience for the other three. My favorites were a Kenyan and El Salvadoran flavors. I can certainly say this is the best coffee we've had in Norway because, well, it was the only coffee we tried during our short stay in Oslo. I am not a coffee snob but I drink plain coffee almost daily and I can certainly the drinks here were the best I have tasted in my life. And my bf can certainly say the same for iced coffees. We followed the river and then crossed a bridge to reach this place. Upon walking in we walked right into the middle of some coffee making magic. A worker was working some machine and another worker handled the front. Barely any wait and barely any customers, so we got our orders real quick. I had the cappuccino with I forgot which beans and I must say the best cup of cappuccino I've had. Maybe it was the milk, but it was smooth and tasty. I wanted to go back for seconds but we ran out of time before our flight. The iced coffee tasted delicious as well. What I wouldn't give to have a Tim Wendelboe cafe in Los Angeles.. still, I feel so lucky I got to experience this brilliant shop during a short stay in Oslo. Their coffee experience can't be matched; we tried the sampler and absolutely loved this gourmet light roasted treat. It's so cool to watch them roast the beans within the store on that beautiful green machine. The baristas here were really hip/easy to talk to and we had a lovely time sitting at one of their small tables and taking our time trying 4 different flavors. My husband LOVES coffee and typically purchases beans at G&B, Intelligentsia, and other nice shops in LA but none of them ever compare to TW. He bought a bag of TW beans right before we left the city and they stayed fresh for a really long time thanks to the way they were packaged. So delicious! I ordered two bags of TW's beans as a holiday gift for my husband and they arrived to the USA very quickly. Once again they were super fresh and appear to be lasting a long time. I wish we had lightly roasted coffee here but it's not something we can find in our city. Tim Wendelboe's coffee is truly special. read more

What a waste of time and money. The place is so tiny you can't hardly sit down to enjoy your cup of coffee. The takeaway coffee I got was only filled about halfway, maybe a 4oz pour generously, and their prices are absolutely obscene, even by Norwegian standards. On top of that, they don't do hand pours, it's all machine made. Disappointing for a premium coffee place. At least Starbucks will do a pour over if you ask. I asked to sample one of the varieties they sell in bags for home and I was told they're out, despite there being a shelf full of bags behind me. Near as I can tell they just don't want to. We had heard they do tours of the roasting process and were excited to see that. The woman at the counter informed me that because they've scaled up production they no longer offer that anymore. Such a masterful cappuccino. I was in dire heaven when I sat outside on such a lovely summer day sipping this perfectly made beverage. My girlfriend had gotten a drip coffee, and it had such an elegant and deep flavor to it. It didn't have a deep bitter taste, but just a bunch of complex, nutty and fruity flavors to it. Lovely little place that truly cares about coffee. I had the best cappuccino I've ever had in my life at this little place. Although I didn't end up doing a coffee tasting I did have one of their black coffees which they brew via aeropress. Very smooth tasting, my only thing is they primarily only have beans that are on the more acidic side (I think it's an European thing as most of the places where I drank black coffee had more acidic coffees) I prefer darker roasts, but that's just my personal preference. Not too much seating space however and consistently has a line out the door despite it being such a small space. They didn't have iced coffee while I was there though in April (possibly because it was still freezing outside) so unsure if there is just no iced options or just during this time of year (since other reviews mention iced coffee!) read more

We both ordered the same thing and were lucky enough to find a table after ordering. The coffee was brought over not too long after we ordered and we served on a very aesthetically pleasing wooden holder with a small cup and a little pot to pour from. While the design was very cool and much different than anything I had seen before, the coffee didn't seem to be anything incredibly special. Yes, the coffee was better than your traditional Starbucks but I had such high expectations that it was a bit of a let down (and very expensive!). I got in there just in time, for a dozen people lined up right afterwards to grab some coffee to take away on a beautiful day. But I had a very good Mexican brew from Chiapas, with an acidic freshness, and their tasting note was a pretty spot-on "strawberry, stone fruit, zesty orange." But, since I consider all of the Yelpiverse friends, I'm going to risk it and say: this is the kind of place where, if it were in Brooklyn, I'd roll my eyes a little. To clarify: I'd still go (and no knock to one of my fave boroughs of all time), but it's just a little "too _too_". Tim Wendelboe takes itself *seriously*. However, magically, down a low-key street in Oslo, the Tim Wendelboe seriousness actually comes across authentically, as if people are genuinely revering coffee. And I appreciate that. Tim Wendelboe himself is a man of modern coffee lore: a barista who, in 2004, won the World Barista Championship. This is the location of his micro-roastery and "coffee training centre". The interior is barren in a hip way; this isn't about bright collectibles, an extensive food menu and wide variety to appease non-coffee lovers as well. It's dark, and cool, and has vintage chairs and a big roaster. The bar is at the back of the main room, and the employee working it that day was dressed in a crisp white shirt. (Again, see: SERIOUS). The coffee comes with water as a palate cleanser and on a beautiful wooden tray (see pic, attached). I went for the iced coffee which was amazing: shaken with star anise, the flavours of both coffee and spice were complemented perfectly. It was pricey, but definitely worth the taste and the experience. I had other good coffee in Oslo so I'm not sure this would be my daily go-to if I ever called Oslo home, but it certainly is a place that prepares coffee meticulously and allows you to revel in the ritual of a good cup/shot. As a pseudo-coffee enthusiast, I knew I wanted to get Tim Wendelboe a shot given the hype I heard from friends, reviews, and the fact that Tim won a coffee tasting championship in recent years. Fortunately, the place wasn't too far from where I stayed and fairly proximate to Mathallen Oslo. The cafe is near a park and fairly non-descript, but once you walk in, you'll feel like you're in a cozy, hip coffee spot with a big coffee grinder and minimal seating. Service was great and they offer you a water while you wait to cleanse your palate. The coffee itself was really good - perhaps some of the smoothest I've had.
