I think she prefers the regulars who just come in, select their items quickly, pay and leave! I won't deduct stars against her less than warm reception because I enjoyed their pastries. I've had their water bread at O Tacho, across the street - it's a nice bread, with a chewier exterior. Their kaiser buns comes in packages of 6 and 12; a package of 6 is $1.30. The buns have a very flaky exterior and leave a ton of crumbs everywhere when you start eating it - not my fav. The turnovers (comes in apple and cherry) are HUGE ($1.25 each). I chose the apple turnover and I really enjoyed it since it wasn't overly sweet like the typical turnover. The egg or custard tarts are sold in a larger size if you want to buy in bulk but they are also sold prepackaged 6 smaller portions for $5.50. They're not the prettiest looking tarts since there's some caramelized spots on the custard (it looks burnt but it's not). The tarts remind me of creme brulee that's been encased in a tougher pastry shell - it's a sweet little treat that's worth trying! They are open 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Saturday, closed on Sundays. It's old school so no debit or credit, just plain ol' deniro is accepted.

I drove between Steinbach and Winnipeg almost every day, and loved it. I'm a road trip person and it was enjoyable when traffic moves. This Sal's is located on St. Anne's Road at Fermor Avenue, which is the Trans-Canada Highway. It was easy to pull off the highway and drop by this eatery for lunch before I caught my flight back to Toronto (technically, Mississauga). This Sal's is located in a plaza with a Shell gas station, Dollarama, and FreshCo. I ended up parking behind the Sal's and walking in. I liked that there was a shallow ramp up to the doors for accessibility. The entrance door is on the left, You exit on the left. This Sal's is the most well-oiled machine that I've ever been to. A man seated everyone. Another woman made sure that each table and booth was clean. Servers worked like clockwork. Wow! Kristen, who would end up being my server, indicated that my booth was just wiped down. Both seats were wet. I asked if I could get some paper towel to wipe one of the seats down. She got me some. I dried my side of the booth and then sat down. Looking back, should a customer actually do this work? I frankly didn't mind helping out because I just wanted to sit down without the seat being damp. I don't know if she simply was tired and was more concerned warning me. I basically offered to dry off one side. Anyway, I love dropping by Sal's. I can rely on consistent, yummy food. It's a Winnipeg staple. This location is open 24 hours a day. It was cold, fizzy, and refreshing. I got a refill midway eating my meal. The bacon mushroom swiss nip was excellent. A nip is a burger. The patty was delicious with the bacon, melted swiss cheese, and sliced mushrooms. It has everything that I love about a burger. The bun was soft and yummy. The platter came with a few sliced pickles and coleslaw. I loved the crunch and contrast that both of them added to my meal. It came with fries. I got a lot of them. The rich beef gravy was delightful with the fries. So good! I couldn't fit dessert in. I got the bill and settled it at the table. I used my credit card to tip and tap the payment machine. Done! The advantage, ones you know what type of beans you like, is that you'll have your favourite beans ready for you even if they don't have it in roasted stock.
