Space is quite large and it appears to have a viewing area to see bakers making the bread/pastries. It even has a large corner designated for kids to play in! We asked the owner if we could have some baguette with butter which he gladly obliged. He took a fresh baguette and sliced about half of it into diagonal pieces, put some butter on the side for us and let us have at it. We also had a cappuccino and latte - both were good. The baguette was nice and fresh, good for a bakery but it's hard to mess up a baguette. Towards the end, we tried a Choquette and that was really, really good. Really enjoyed the light crunchiness and the sweetness of the pastry. Perfect sweetness level and so crispy. I probably could have eaten a ton more if I had less self-control and had more money to spend. It probably pairs really well with a coffee. The owner was nice and only charged us 1$ for the half a baguette - I guess he planned on using the rest of it for other things during the day or just a really nice guy who knew we were tourists in the area based on our terrible French and his resorting to speaking to us in English. We did notice this place seems pretty well known to locals. Tons of people would come in looking for a specific loaf of bread or purchase a mass quantity of croissants at a time. One lady bought a bunch of pastries and let her kids to play in the kid's play area. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area if you need breakfast or an afternoon cappuccino or latte!

It's hard to pick as each item looks better than the last. Sticking with the basics though, croissant, almond filled croissant and a hazelnut roll. Oh my gosh. The almond filling was amazing. Like a marzipan but lighter and more almond flavor. Generously filled into a sliced croissant. The hazelnut roll;similiar to a cinnamon roll but an elevated taste with real hazelnut paste. Basically everything in that bakery is top drawer as they are using pure ingredients. Definitely stop in and try anything. No disappointments only regrets that you eat more!

Picture this: soft snow falling on the cobblestone streets of Petit-Champlain, fairy lights glowing, and the warm light spilling out of this beautiful little café. I ducked in both mornings of my short trip and could have happily stayed all day. The interior is perfect Québécois charm: exposed stone walls, wooden beams, cozy lighting, and that unbeatable smell of fresh baking. First morning I ordered the pistachio latte and the quiche Florentine. I would legitimately sell my firstborn for that pistachio latte: silky, perfectly balanced, with a rich, natural pistachio flavor that no syrup could ever match. One sip and I was ruined for life. The quiche was flawless: buttery, flaky crust, creamy spinach-and-cheese filling, baked to golden perfection. Absolute breakfast heaven. I braved a full-on snowglobe blizzard the next morning just to come back. This time I paired the same life-changing pistachio latte with the almond croissant. I'd hand over my other kid for daily access to these croissants (kidding... mostly). Impossibly crisp and flaky outside, cloud-soft inside, generously stuffed with fragrant almond paste, topped with toasted almonds and powdered sugar. I ate it slowly by the window while the snow piled up on Rue Notre-Dame and honestly felt like the luckiest person alive. The baristas were friendly, the vibe warm and unhurried, and everything was flawless. If you're in Quebec City, make La Maison Smith non-negotiable (and budget time to visit at least twice). Five stars isn't enough. This place is winter-morning perfection.

It's near Jacques Cartier National Park so if you time your trip around fall foliage as I did, you can enjoy your pastries surrounded by the colors of the fall season. You just point at whatever is calling you. There was line, but the line moves swift. Is it strange that I get happy and excited when I meet fellow Filipinos. I find comfort in meeting them and it always feels like meeting family away from home. There was a group of them working at this bakery in Stoneham.
