The case was full of tempting choices, and everything looked amazing. The maple cream donut was absolute heaven -- the glaze had just the right touch of maple to balance the thick, tender dough. The edges were perfectly crispy, and the texture was unlike any donut I've ever had. The glazed twist was equally delicious. The coffee was very good, though a little too hot to enjoy right away. The only real downside was the lack of seating -- no tables or chairs inside, despite the large open lobby, and no benches outside either. We ended up eating in the car. These are not featherweight, boring, drive thru chain donuts that never fail to disappoint. The box says they are "made with love" and while I certainly hope the bakers and makers are not oozing affection for the creations as they do their job (because that would get weird right?), the recipes and standards of ultra high quality that this unique WNY establishment has sure shows a respect and appreciation for their customers. The dough is light and never greasy tasting. The cream fillings are also fluffy and airy and melt in your mouth. Jellies are all top notch and let me be clear, the donuts are packed full with whatever is inside. Or on top. The headlights are incredible. Peanut butter offerings (several to choose from) are stellar. I'm not sure if the chocolate icing is a ganache but it seems much more like a ganache than the lousy, dried out icing you might find at places we need not mention. Staff are always courteous, polite and fast. I think each donut is going for about $2.30 but well worth it for the size and quality. A box of 3 is heavy to hold. You get a lot of donut for your buck. I've been on a Paula's kick for a couple months, stopping in when appropriate for my donut desires but trying to be mindful of my waistline. I like to sit down and really enjoy every bite. These are not ordinary donuts, they are an experience to savor. But how do Paula's donuts help one recover from surgery? It's about what you might do with them. My friend picked me up and brought me home after the hospital and slyly produced a bag of donuts for me, which I sat down and ate the minute I walked in the door. It's such a cool vibe to be able to watch them make each donut from scratch. I got to the front of the line and just ordered a traditional dozen donuts. Then something happened that I NEVER would have expected. The staff member said, "Would you like another dozen for 16 cents?" I was caught so off guard that another dozen was only SIXTEEN CENTS, that I made him repeat it just to make sure I heard him right. I was absolutely floored but I knew I would be dumb to say no to this deal. Long story short, I left with 24 donuts and had no idea how I would eat them all. I actually hesitated to choose this one, but now I am so very glad I did! It was wonderful. The chocolate on the Angel Cream and Boston Cream was tasty without being over sweet. The yeast dough is so light and fluffy. Both are very satisfying. The vanilla cream in the Angel Cream donut is quite sweet, almost like a frosting The Boston cream custard was nicely done. Not over sweet, nice and smooth. Many of the donuts we selected have a sugar glaze that compliments the donut. The donut itself is not too sweet, and the sugar glaze adds just enough sweetness to make for an enjoyable treat. There is a small parking area behind the shop. Eating-in is no longer an option and the dining room has been turned into a storage area. There are bottled beverages in a cooler, and hot coffee is available.
