My sister-in-law knew about this place and it was on her to-do list for the trip. All the donuts hit the ball out of the park in 3 ways: great names to embody many innovative varieties; visually colorful and stunning, like designed for an over-the-top cartoon; and taste great! (Admittedly, I didn't taste every one, but just what my sister-in-law and I had.) Their "Mangue Pas Ça" (translating to not that mango) had a Mango glaze and was seasoned with sweet peppers, lime and sea salt! One variety resembled Key Lime Pie, another Watermelon, another Crème Brûlée, and the Caramel Instagraham.. well even had a Biscoff cookie perched on top. You'll also find they make "D'oh Nut" Donut a la The Simpsons! La Beignerie's selection includes several of their own ice cream choices that were equally appealing... but let's stick to the donuts. For anyone who likes something sweet, it would be hard to not find a La Beignerie donut option that would be mouthwatering! Being a fan of the tea, I chose their Earl Grey flavored Phileas Fog, with its Cream (vegan of course) filled center. Awesome! My sister-in-law chose Crème St-Denis, basically their Boston Creme. Yummy! Of course getting in on the (you can quote me on this trend) "Pistachio is the New Hazelnut" explosion, La Beignerie also makes a Chocolat Dubaï version! Their Blueberry Cruller also looked enticing. Btw, noted online that you can also order donuts with a colored filling to help with a gender reveal party. The staff was super friendly. La Beignerie's storefront is tight for space, but they had a little covered seating out front. Drank a coffee there as well, but just ok. That being said, stick to them donuts!!! La Beignerie's donuts... Oui, Oui!!!

They have the best flavor and are not heavy or overly sweet, which is the best thing about them. Same with the ice cream! Their label is so cute too. Great for photo ops!

I am admittedly not the biggest donut fan, but my husband & son are. We met a local family who said…read morewe "HAD" to try these donuts, so we made our way over. We originally planned to get 2 donuts, then we walked in and saw the selection - and decided to get 6 donuts (why? We did not need 6 donuts - especially ones this large. But yet....). Then the super nice guy working the register gave us 2 for free because it was our first time!!! There goes my waistline because these are donuts I DO like. Some are way too sweet for me, and we unfortunately got 2 glazed instead of 1 glazed and 1 original, but even I couldn't stop taking bites. If you like donuts, it's absolutely worth the trek to get them. They're closed Mondays & Tuesdays, so plan ahead.

A true gem in Montreal. Our guide brought us by this place on a bike tour of the city and what a treat! If you have the time, it's definitely worth a stop, if for nothing else to see the dripping glaze on the donuts. FOOD: Great selection of donuts - primarily yeast. Glazed donuts with great toppings or even plain. We tried the Brownie donut, the Lemon donut, and the Maple Bacon donut. All were good. Really good. SERVICE: People here were so nice and the portions are HUGE. Easy to get to go or eat right there outside the shop. Not any place to really sit, but you don't want it dripping on you anyway. COST: Very reasonable for what you get. Truly worth it.

We stopped in on a Saturday and it was definitely busy lots of people studying, chatting, and enjoying donuts, which honestly just adds to the vibe. We were picking up a box for a friend's event, and of course I couldn't resist grabbing a few for myself too. The space is still just as cozy and charming. I love the mismatched furniture it gives the café such an authentic, relaxed, slightly hipster feel, like you could sit there for hours. It was also decorated really sweetly for Christmas, which made it feel extra warm and inviting. As for the donuts... there's so much variety. We tried a mix of flavors including passion fruit, Boston cream, cheesecake, tiramisu, framboise, and a caramel butter one all fresh, soft, and generously filled. It's honestly hard to choose because everything looks good. Pricing is also great for sharing or events: * 6 donuts for $20 * 12 donuts for $36 Perfect for bringing to a gathering or treating yourself to a little variety. Still a great spot years later cozy atmosphere, fun flavors, and a place that feels just as welcoming whether you're grabbing a box to go or staying awhile.

A true Canadian tradition!…read more For my whole life as a Canadian, I've never heard or been to Sugar Shack. Probably because there's none close to Toronto, but this one is only about 30 minutes outside of Montreal. It's a feast / all-you-can-eat, featuring: Bread and butter Cretons (pork spread) Coleslaw Homemade marinades Pickles and pickled beets Pea soup Baked omelette Ham Maple sausages Baked beans Pork rinds Grilled bacon Fried potatoes Homemade tourtière (meat pie) Meatballs Desserts: Pet de soeur (pastry) Sugar pie Buckwheat pancakes Crepes with maple coulis Maple taffy on snow (after dinner) Maple production season this year is from February 19 to May 1, 2022. Prices have apparently gone up since Covid, it's $38.95 per adult. It is just maple-focused, fanicer breakfast food. But portions are huge. You can't take anything home. Book in advance, it's very popular and seasonal each year. Service was poor since it's so busy. The waitresses often forgot our (drink) orders. Communication in English, and naming or even explaining the food was a struggle for the wait staff. Maple taffy on snow, is a tradition on its own. Unlimited. It's after dinner, later on, in a hut/house outside the restaurant. You see part of the process, with an evaporator. They give you a popsicle stick and you roll / pick up as much maple taffy as you want.

And the wind was definitely there. Nevertheless, we HAD to show this wonderful tradition to an Argentinian friend who would soon return home, so we rented a car, braved the cold and drove to Mont-St-Grégoire. The drive there is rather short and easy. The road to l'Erabliere Charbonneau is lined with countless other sugar shacks, but Charbonneau is one of the best reviewed. The sugar shack's compound is rather large, comprising of a mini-farm with goats (and a llama!!), a playground, an orchard, a house dedicated to maple-on-snow, and the Charbonneau restaurant. We didn't make a reservation, but we arrived right at opening time and got a table right away. The restaurant's food is nice, although a bit simple. Everything (except a small apple juice sample) is all-you-can-eat, which makes the ~33$/person price tag seem reasonable. For that price, you also get maple-on-snow and a tractor ride to the orchard nearby, where you can sample cider and wines. The meal has three services: 1) entrees (beets, coleslaw, split bean/ham soup, bread and pork spread, etc), 2) mains (eggs and ham, sausages, bacon/oreilles de crisse, potatoes, beef patties, beans), and 3) desserts (pancakes, maple butterscotch, "pets-de-soeur", sugar pie, etc.). After the second wave of food, we were already pretty bloated, so desserts threw us staight into food coma. To wake us up, we went to see the orchard shop - which is barely 3 minutes away - but sitting in the back of that tractor in the bitter cold made it seem more like 10 minutes. The shop is quite nice, with tons of local products, maple confections, candies, pies, pickles, and, strangely, emu oil-based hygiene products (!). There was free, warm cinnamon-flavored apple juice for everyone, and free samples of ciders and wines in a little house nearby. But most of us just wanted to take a nap, so we crumbled into comfy sofas in a lobby closeby. Half an hour later, we shaked off the drowsiness to brave once again the cold and return to the main compound. There, we each had a maple taffy on ice, rushed to the warm comfort of our car and drove off. It was a very quiet drive back.
