Deeply disappointed with the soil. We just moved into a new property with terrible clay soil and brought in 45 yards of Bainbridge Bounty (the best Tilz offers) over the course of this spring to start our large veggie and cutting garden off right. Most of which went into large tall raised beds and didn't mix at all with our property's soil. Nothing we were growing was doing well. Seeds germinated and then never grew beyond their first leaves and turned yellow, seedlings felt like they shrunk when we put them into the soil. Other perennials did terrible as well turning yellow immediately and not growing at all, or some flowered way too soon. It's been a tough spring with the temperatures and rain that yellowing and stagnancy make sense. However, I finally took a soil sample out of one of our brand new raised beds entirely made up of "Bainbridge Bounty" and it was significantly nitrogen deficient. This can be caused by run off of course but it seemed too significant and too immediate to blame our spring entirely for. I reached out to Tilz and they said that the last time they tested their own soil was over a year ago. They wrote off my complaint as the rainy weather and claimed that they get this particular soil from somwhere else. They claimed someone would call me back to discuss our situation and no one ever did. I am disappointed in Tilz for brushing off my concern and not taking ownership of the product they sell. I have never written a bad review in my life but I have been so disappointed and frustrated after investing so much in Tilz. I also spoke to a fellow gardener who purchased a more affordable soil from Tilz this spring, tested it and it too was nitrogen deficient. I spent so much money on this soil and so much more money and time rushing to amend it to still get something out of this season. I can already see a night and day difference after adding bat guano, blood meal, cotton seed meal, alfalfa pellets and compost tea. But that is a lot to add to 45 yards of soil and hard to amend properly after everything has been planted. I also just want to mention I am not a novice. I spent years working as gardener. read more
