I have absolutely loved Tikka Shack's butter masala for years. I went 2-3 times a week in college just to have that for lunch. It's a cool, modern atmosphere, & you hardly ever wait more than 10 minutes to receive your meal. The rest of the menu looks delicious too, but I crave & look so forward to the butter masala specifically that I can never bring myself to try anything else. My husband however is willing to try more, & has also never had a bad meal. The butter masala, tikka masala, biriyani, tandoori wings, and kabob bowl are great. There used to be a tikka sandwich that was also great, The 2 things that bother me enough to leave a 4 star review instead of 5 are these: 1. Why on earth are the Lubbock locations the ONLY two that do not adhere to all of the Tikka Tuesday deals? To receive this text, especially when the butter masala is our favorite, it's just frustrating: "Tikka Shack: Tikka Tuesday Today. Featuring our most Popular Butter Masala with Rice + Naan + Drink for $11. (Not available at Lubbock locations)" Before, the "not available at Lubbock locations" was not included, & we would consistently try to get the butter masala on tikka Tuesdays (like the text said you could get) in store & be told the text doesn't include Lubbock locations. So unfortunate, & frankly unfair. Visiting the Phoenix, AZ & Austin, TX locations on Tuesdays & being able to get Butter Masala on Tikka Tuesdays was a real treat. 2. There are often inconsistencies with the cooking. We always enjoy our meals. We arrived probably around 2 or 3 on our visit here so there weren't many customers left from the lunch rush. It's a restaurant where you order and pay at the counter and the food is brought to you. The man taking our order was very stern and just didn't seem to be in a good mood while being there. Even though there weren't many people in there, it was still pretty loud with the few tech kids that were occupying tables. The food overall was much better than when they first opened. When I leave Lubbock, there are only a few things that I miss: the lack of traffic, the constant sunny days, and Tikka Shack. This is my go-to spot for a pick-me-up, something to get that I always know will be good. The butter marsala with chicken? Bury me with a plate of it. The customer service is always good, the restaurant is always spotless with great bathrooms. Stopped by Tikka Shack for dinner and got the Tikka Pizza & Butter Masala with Chicken. I was skeptical about the Tikka Pizza concept but it ended up being very yummy! Highly recommend trying it if you come here. The Butter Masala with Chicken was a little bit too overpowering with butter, but still pretty good. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING!! I love Indian cuisine but I ordered the chicken Tikka Masala & Naan bread. Not only was it expensive the portions were very small. There was very little flavor and the bread also was tasteless. I could have eaten the container and not known the difference. The chicken, (the three or four pieces that were there) were mostly fat. The rice was dry. I took about 3 bites and got my money back. I'll find a real Indian restaurant. elsewhere. First time here, and it was a pretty great experience. The guy in the front taking orders was very helpful. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and was very transparent with his answers. We decided to get the Tikka Pizza, Southern Curry Chicken Bowl, and the Spicy Chcicken Kabob. We also ended with the Mango Lassi, Gulab Jamun and the Ras Maiai. The Southern Curry Chicken bowl tasted great, but it came out a good 3-5 minutes before anything else so by the time we got the remaining food it was cold. The Tikka Pizza ________. The spicy chicken kabob was good, but I wish it came out warmer and it wasn't very spicy. I enjoyed the salad that came with it and the garlic naan bread was amazing. The dessert were unique. I can't say we were crazy about the Gulab Jamun but I did enjoy the Rad Maiai. The atmosphere was open and inviting, and although not advertised (which isn't a bad thing always) they do have WiFi so as a student you can stop by for a quick lunch and do some studying as well. Overall I was impressed. If you are looking for a quick food option that's different then traditional options this is a great place to consider! I got the original curry with lamb a garlic naan, delish. The curry had just the right amount of heat to let you know you ate something special and the blending of flavors was excellent. The Mr. ordered butter chicken, samosas and garlic naan. I had vegetable curry, garlic naan and a side of raita. The butter chicken was very tender. My vegetable curry was well spiced, but mainly consisted of carrots and green beans. A few peas and one small piece of cauliflower. Large portions and very reasonable prices. The lamb and the Goan Vindaloo were spiced nicely, was warm when it arrived and fed me. However it was slightly greasy. Mango Lassi: A very delicious drink! Well worth the high price tag in my opinion. Blend of tastes are well portioned. Masala fries: came free with our order so that was av plus, tasted good, were not crusty and soggy, the sauce was very delicious. However. The portion is small so I wouldnt order these unless it comes free. Maaza: maaza (pronounced "Muzza") is a Coca-Cola fruit drink brand from India and marketed in the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia. Its most popular drink is its mango fruit drink. Lamb Shish kebabs: my wife ordered this , she said the spices are just right and it tastes really really good. She said it was some of the best Indian food she's had however with the amount of grease it made her stomach kinda nauseous. Biggest gripe I had with Tikka Shack is I was charged for food I did not get, I ordered two samosas and did not receive them. Overall. 3.5 /5 and will change to 4.0 if my refund goes through. We both have recently become a vegetarian so it is great that they have plenty of vegetarian options--all of the curry selections can be ordered with choice of meat or vegetables. I live in Midland, and unfortunately, Indian restaurants are in short supply there. So when I have the occasional visit in Lubbock, I love to visit Tikka Shack. Now this place isn't going to be your totally authentic Indian cuisine and street food, but it does have a solid interpretation of non-Indian friendly versions of traditional Indian dishes (aka not too spicy). The chicken tikka masala is great! Good flavor and not spicy. Personally, I'd love to see it a little more amped with flavor and spice (but this is west Texas, and you have to cater to a detain demographic.) So considering that, this restaurant fills the need for a greater diversity of ethnic foods in our area. The rice is standard, and the naan is delicious.
