I only come to Tijuana Flats for a quick snack because the portions are small and aren't as big. For instance, a taco comes with 12 chips (yes, I count them...). The reason that I gave this spot 5 stars is because every time I go it's specifically for a little snack and not an actual full dinner. I like to eat and take my dinner seriously so I don't come here for that and neither should you if you take it serious as I do. Also, if you do the survey on your receipt you can get a FREE taco on your next visit (make sure it's within 7 days!) I also recommend downloading the app and scanning your receipt for points. Stopped going here a while ago as the tacos had very little in them and my steak quesadilla with extra steak had hardly any steak in it. Decided to try again Friday around 430.Wow what a difference. Not sure if it's under new management but the taco was full my extra steak quesadilla was full of steak. This location in Riverview is open about one year now. The food and service are very good. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. You place your order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. They serve all the Mexican favorites. I had a queso cheese dip with nacho chips. Then I had a steak burrito. It's always a great time at Tijuana flats. When u walk in you're greeted at the door. The staff is friendly. This place is like a Tex-mex restaurant. I pretty much get blackened chicken everything. You can't go wrong with that. They sell beer & wine as well. They have a happy hour from 4-7p Monday through Friday. There's a host of sauces from you to choose as well for your food. I personally like the Blackened chicken Bowl. It consists of blackened chicken, rice, black beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese topped off with guacamole and sour cream. It's a good and flavorful bowl. You won't be disappointed. My husband got the blackened chicken flautas. These are like fried dough filled mini burritos stuffed with meat and cheese topped with lettuce and tomatoes. It comes with like a queso dipping sauce and guacamole. The queso is very very cheesy tasting. Hard to describe but u get the drift. He tore it up. On Tijuana Tuesdaze: 2 Tacos, Chips & a Drink. On Throwback Thursday's: A Burrito, Chips & Drink. Both specials are 5.99. Of course, there are nachos, quesadillas, salads and more to choose from. For my Quesadilla I chose Blackened Chicken, Chips and a Drink for $7.79. I thought the price point was a little high for what you get. You can also add rice & beans to that for more. My chicken was of good quality, but the blackening wasn't that sharp bite of heat I expect and the quesadilla itself had too little chicken. My friend had the Crispy Baja Street Fish Tacos. The fish was not up to high standards. Basically, it wasn't fresh. The manager noticed her plate wasn't touched and was very nice about it. Not only did he offer to comp her meal, when he returned her money, he also brought her a 'gratis' warm Dessert Flautas to take home. You can't get customer service any better than that. She looked at me like I had three heads and said (apparently in disgust), "no, we don't do refills on chips..." There's never been a time I l've visited this location that they got my order right. I love the food but the staff doesn't pay attention to detail. There's always at least one thing missing or incorrect with my order. It's just too much of a hassle to have to go back to get whatever is missing from my order or get some sort of credit. I appreciate when my family can sit and eat without our order being messed up and that never happens with this location. If the chips aren't stale, my salad dressing is missing or there are no forks with my to go order. Food is great, but I'm over the messed up orders. One of my favorite Tex Mex restaurants! I used to to to the on in Tampa off of Fowler ave every Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. Was super excited to see one so close to home. Easy to get to and plenty of room for seating. The restaurant is clean and staff are all friendly. I usually get the beef burrito and make it wet with queso. Plenty of options from the hot sauce bar. I've had better. OVERPRICED. For what I paid, I should have had at least a mediocre dining experience. Shouting/running kids and obnoxious/rude guests blowing their nose at the table are what I experienced. I expect this at the Walmart fast food eateries, but not here. It was clean but the ambiance was like McDonald's with beer and wine offered (although I didn't see anyone partaking in drinking alcohol because it's like drinking at Chuck E Cheese). The food was just "meh". Too much lettuce in the burrito bowl I had and the burrito my husband had with not enough meat. I'd order the food again, but why would I since Taco Bell is right across the street and tastes 60% better? Also-they don't have the prices conveniently displayed at the order counter. It pains me to write this because my hubs and I have always loved going to tijuana flats in Brandon, so when we found out one was coming to our area, we were thrilled! We've been three times, and all three times, felt the Brandon tijuana flats is so much better. The last time went, there were only 9 chips (yes, we counted b/c it was such a small amount) w/ my tacos, and the lady two visits, they were stale. Honestly, the tacos are enough for me, but if they're going to short change you on chips that Brandon tijuana flats gives plenty of, we'll go there instead. Also, the "chicken" in my tacos last time was clearly not real chicken and definitely not the same chicken that's used at the Brandon location. Tasted so horrible, I threw the 2nd one out.
