It was our last of three nights in Galway. We had gone out on a bus tour to the Cliffs of Moher, and were ready for a sumptuous meal before going to bed and taking the train to Cork the next day. We had planned on taking a walk past Eyre Square to Shop Street and the Latin Quarter to take our pick of many delectable choices. But as we arrived at about half past six, the heavens were unleashing, and walking more than a couple of minutes in the driving rain would have been a fool's errand.
Luckily, the Tighe Fox was only a couple doors down from where we were staying, so instead of drowning our sorrows in the hotel's overpriced restaurant, we invested ninety seconds of exposure and sauntered over to the building where there was a host of coeds smoking e-cigarettes and thought "this will make us feel young again" (well, the coed part anyway). We heard traditional Irish music from the inside, and we instantly knew we wouldn't be progressing any further.
And why would we? For under E40 we were able to each have a full dinner (in my case the seafood with vegatables), a drink (Guinness, of course), and dessert (apple pie with ice cream). After polishing off our grub, we freely moved from the bar to a more relaxing seating area, where a bunch of college-age students were having a ball gossiping about whatever was on their mind.
While it apparently wasn't cool enough to have the fireplace running (I'm assuming one is present), it's hard to find a place that feels as warm, both literally and spiritually. Recommended for anyone who enjoys life. read more
