I like this place…read more If you have visited Japan & Korea etc and have been missing the atmosphere of a ramen shop, this will suit you perfectly. It does a very good deal on a 'stop the clock' idea, which means you can sit and eat for two hours, from the moment of your first order. The cost is £15.80 which can't be bad. Personally I recommend the Bulgogi, thin sliced BBQ steak. Ushikata! I have hesitated in recommending Teppan Oriental because its very appeal is that all the customers are apparently Korean, Japanese or Chinese and this adds to the atmosphere...

Dishes are often cooked at the diner's table on metal grills that are built into the center of the table where diners can enjoy doing there own grilling/bbq at the dinner table. The Chinese Hot Pot also known as Shabu Shabu in Japan, and in Singapore and Malaysia the Steamboat. Like fondue but replaced with a simmering metal pot of stock at the centre of the table where diners place their ingredients into the pot to cook. The cooked food is usually eaten with a variety of dipping sauces. Typical Hot Pot dishes include thinly sliced meat, vegetables, dumplings and seafood. Here in Teppan we have a vast choice of ingredients, dipping sauces and stock.

Fantastic food in a fairly relaxed (but still quite formal - does that make sense??) setting…read more The food is freshly prepared and always tastes so good. The staff are always keen to please and always want to hear that you've enjoyed your experience. The restaurant is always so clean, it's very welcoming. But the popularity of this restaurant means that it does get busy! I would recommend booking a table if you're planning to visit in the evening. The drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but with food of this quality, you can live with that. They also offer a takeaway service, but I have never tried that.

Following the August Bank Holiday weekend a friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat as…read moreneither of us had a chance to grab anything all day. I remembered the wonderful deal I had taken advantage of on a mid week 'Custom Plate' Chinese Banquet at the Shanghai in Gloucester. I took my relatives there some years before and found their system quite unique and very pleasantly memorable. Finding myself once again in their locale I was keen to see if the standard had remained as high. Welcome and service was first class. Indeed the choices were equally as good as before and a very comprehensive table service menu meant there was something for all tastes. The rule seemed to be the same that you could order any dishes or side plates you wanted, the only condition was that any significant left-overs could be charged back at full menu price (on top of the fixed buffet tariff). A crispy duck starter and several noodle and rice dishes were the order of the day. Each one as wonderful as the previous and it really did seem that we had struck gold in terms of our choice of venue. For approx £13 a head (I suspect slightly more at busy weekends), the value and quality more than matched the variety of choices. There were not many empty tables and the atmosphere was pleasantly vibrant. If I have one slight criticism to level it would merely be that the very open plan arrangement of before seems to have been slightly modified to now include a policy of not being able to revert to starter items later on during the service. To me this flexibility was one of the beauties of the former visit and to be fair when I questioned this I was actually courteously allowed to order as I wished. I may suggest that somehow this now needs to be made clearer or better still, left as relaxed as before. There was no pressure to keep re-filling the glasses but due to the length of time we were in the Shanghai, we did sample a small selection of their fine wines and beers. I guess I won't leave it so long next time.

It was set about 15-min from the A6 but wow was it worth the detour! They have a massive menu with foods from all over east Asia. We decided to share a starter of salt & pepper short ribs. The husb opted for Singapore noodles (his favorite) and I was going to order spicy combination noodle soup but was recommended to try the Spicy Tom Yum Noodle Soup the was on the specials board. I love tom yum so it was a no-brainer to take the recommendation. The short ribs were delicious. Perfectly fried so they were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside and they were covered in a delectable salt, pepper, garlic, and onion topping. (chef's kiss) The Singapore Noodles were a healthy portion and OMG the meat was SO TENDER. Sorry for yelling, but I needed to make sure everyone understood. Sometimes meat can be overcooked slightly and a little chewy, but they have perfected the art of meat here! The Spicy Tom Yum Noodle Soup was brimming with ingredients and was massive! The combination is their house mix of meats and seafood. Again, the meat was INCREDIBLY TENDER! The seafood was plentiful and also cooked to perfection. I was able to stop myself from stuffing it all into my face so I could wrap up a third of it for future me. I found both dishes to be decently spicy and the server let me know that both were level 1 spicy so I'll definitely kick it up a notch next time I'm back. I think the husb will happily stay at level 1 . The chefs come from Hong Kong and we gave our compliments to the chef over the short wall separating the kitchen from the dining area. This place is now a must-stop for us when we drive from London to the North and it should be for you too!

Asian fusion? Chinese crossed with Japanese and a side of vietnamese?…read more It's a bit hard to pin point the exact origins making up Wofon, but that's what makes it such an exciting treat. There are three steps when ordering -- choosing your noodles (or rice), topping and sauce. Noodles vary from the traditional Japanese ramen (wheat noodles), Udon (thicker wheat noodles), or perhaps a classic Chiense Dan Meen (egg wheat noodles). The toppings selection varies with Wofon special (selection of meats, prawn, roast pork), mixed seafood, or roast duck, for example. And lastly, the sauces. Selection can be Chinese Szechuan spicy, curry, or Japanese teriyaki. What I love about Wofon (aside from their amazing cheap prices) is that there is such a plethora of selection choices. You can order soup noodles one day, mixing noodles another, mixing rice, or wok fried rice. The selections are completely endless! I also strongly recommend the spare ribs with barbecued sauce as a starter. And the banana with vanilla ice cream as a dessert. And for £2.50, you can't beat the price. Enjoy!

It was probably way I went. Looking for surly spices going around burning people and collecting ASBO's sounded like a good night out if I'm being honest. Much to my dismay it was far more civilised than that and found it to be a Thai restaurant too. I like Thai as I'm newish to it and am still finding myself ordering whatever looks good rather than going for a usual dish I like. Beef with hot thai bean sauce was my weapon of choice and I wasn't disappointed. There was a small Spicy riot in my mouth, but nothing I couldn't handle and found it very tasty indeed. The staff were polite and served as well, nothing out of the blue though. It did take a little longer than I would of liked but that may of been due to the large number of bodies that were taking up my air and my time, so it was understandable.

The interior is modern and very well furnished. Not a typical, authentic setting for this kind of cuisine, it's still pleasant enough and certainly kept clean and in good condition. The staff here are friendly enough, although given the nature of buffet dining, there's pretty much very little they have to do. Staff are keen to offer refills on drinks, but this isn't entirely innocent. With the quite cheap prices on buffet food, the drinks are a little bit more expensive and carry a bit of a premium. The food is pretty average. That's an honest opinion. Really don't think it's anything to write home about, and i'd hardly call it authentic and flavoursome. The poor quality of the food is detrimental to the whole experience quite significantly. After all, you do go out to eat the food, not take in the surroundings.

Probably one of the best curries I've ever had but it had tough contenders in the other plates! 4* Raman Akhbari - the lamb leg with mash. Amazing. 5* For dessert we had chocomosa anand and the grilled pineapple dish. Do not think you can share played as the portions are small. The little choc filled pastry delights were melt-in-the-mouth crispy parcels filled with warm melted chocolate, on a bed of caramelised banana. These guys are outstanding. Not only is it my first day back living on the glorious Gloucester Road after a 9 month hiatus, but I finally got round to trying Dain Korea, a new(ish) Korean restaurant just up from the arches. From the outside I'll be honest, it looks a bit tacky. It certainly doesn't look less than 12 months old, which it is. But it looks interesting, which is why I'd been looking forward to coming. Inside was a bit of a surprise. There was the expected plain tables with chop sticks, but with a wooden, thatched style hut over the counter. It didn't really fit, but I loved it for its character. It was pretty funny! On to the food: very good! Unfortunately I don't know much about Korean food. Bristol has some superb Asian restaurants, but we're not quite as developed at London or Birmingham - so Korean food is something of a welcomed new coming. That said, i thoroughly enjoyed the noodles. They were very wet but with tons of flavour. They actually brought me out a little plate of pickled vegetables and a small plate of yellow beans to start and the noodles came with a delicious Miso soup. The miso was darker than any I have had before and probably tastier than any other as well. This is a great little spot. Not that it needs to be plush to be good, but it a little polish around the edges and this place would be great to eat in as well. I'll be back (no Arnold Schwarzenegger voice attached here)

As I approached the entrance from inside the outlet, there was quite the queue, with people leaving because the queue did not seem to be moving. As people left, I got a better view of inside the restaurant and I couldn't see why people weren't being seated as there were a number open tables/seats. I think the problem was that they have two entrances and one person seemed to be running back and forth between the entrances to seat people. I am sure that when they get more experience, this will hopefully remedy itself. Of course, remember that Wagamama has communal seating like traditional noodle houses, so if you aren't a fan, it could be difficult, but for those of us dining solo, it is actually perfect as we can fit in anywhere! However, there was a mother and daughter that asked for a takeaway menu and decided to take their food to the seating in the food court since it wasn't as crampt. Really it is a brilliant idea if you don't want to wait for a table. The service was very friendly and it was quite efficient as I didn't wait very long for food or my drink. I had the Ramen Soup with Duck. It was delicious and perfect for a chilly day as it had a bit of spice to it. I also find Wagamama's food, filling, but not rich, which is nice for a day of shopping :). A downside to its location is parking. While there is plenty of parking for lunch time or early dinner, both car parks for the outlet close at 8:30 p.m. while both Wagamama and Pizza Express stay open for a few hours after. So if you are looking to have dinner at either, you'll need to walk or take public transport as the car park will be shut. I know it isn't Wagamama's fault as it is ultimately the outlet's decision, but I guess if I had been in planning and deciding whether or not to go into the space, parking would have been something that would have been negotiated, otherwise the restaurant is losing money by being open late, with no parking as there won't be as many customers.
