When I began asking basic questions about the diagnosis and what she was seeing, the interaction felt abruptly shut down. My concerns were dismissed, and it was clear that there would be no discussion or explanation -- the recommendation was presented as final. Shortly after that, she left the room to attend to something else and did not return. That experience left me uncomfortable and uncertain. I had prepaid for two appointments, so I chose not to proceed with the filling and returned about six months later for the second visit. At that appointment, she again told me I needed invasive dental work, describing a procedure that involved drilling through one tooth to access the side of another. Once again, when I tried to ask questions and understand the reasoning, I felt there was no openness to discussion. At that point, I decided not to continue as a patient. What makes this especially troubling is what I learned later. Two years after those visits, I saw another dentist I trust and had a full exam and X-rays done. I was told I have no cavities and that no treatment is needed. If the issue identified two years ago had truly been urgent or progressive, you would reasonably expect it to be worse by now. Instead, it doesn't appear to exist at all. Dentistry involves permanent, irreversible procedures, and patients deserve clear explanations, thoughtful discussion, and a willingness to answer questions -- especially when aggressive treatment is being recommended. I'm very glad I sought a second opinion. I can't speak for anyone else's experience, but based on mine, I would strongly encourage patients to ask questions, trust their instincts, and seek a second opinion before agreeing to invasive dental work.

I came to Dr. Chang needing a new night guard/retainer. He made a night guard for my top teeth but hadn't planned on doing anything for the bottom. RED FLAG! Common knowledge that you need to wear a retainer for the rest of your life. He finally made me a partial retainer for my bottom teeth - so it covered my front 10 teeth. That was about 3 years ago. We moved and have been looking for a good dentist for the last 2 years. A few weeks ago - I found out that my bite is TOTALLY off because I didn't have the appropriate retainer. I have major anxiety and nervousness going to the dentist, sitting in the dentist chair, and hearing that drill! Dr. Zhu knew this and ONLY used the manual pick to clean my teeth. That gesture meant everything to me. Our 3 sons go there. And they needed a lot of work! He was great with each one of them and their respective 'issues' and 'challenges; (1) 23 year old son on the Spectrum, (2) 20 year old son, and (3) 11 year old son. So he was able to handle each son. And then their anxiety-filled dad.
