Love this place! Just started taking Krav Maga classes here a few weeks ago after seeing a Groupon…read moreor LivingSocial deal (can't remember which one) and after one class I immediately signed up for more. Despite the fact that I am the newest student, the instructors are very encouraging. Because they create an environment of respect, the other students are also very encouraging and helpful so as a first-timer to anything martial arts related, I don't feel intimidated. They offer all sorts of other classes like Taekwondo and Karate and work with students of all ages from pre-schoolers to adults. I was interested in Krav Maga because, as a woman, I wanted to learn something that would also teach me real life self defense along with my workout. This is not like a kickboxing class you would take at the gym where you would just be hitting or kicking a bag. Along with drills to get you sweating and your heart pumping, we practice on each other to get a better feel for what a real life scenario might feel like while our instructor Mr. Regueiro, who is a 5th degree black belt, gives us feedback. I want to add that before starting the class, I never worked out at the gym so you don't need to be in great shape to do this. My only tip would be to give yourself enough time to find the location the first time you go there if you are not very familiar with the shopping center. It is located on a side street between Cobb theater and King Pinz. This location just opened a few months ago so it is still a hidden gem. They are great with kids, so if you are looking for a place to enroll your child, try here first! Plus, if you go to the website, you can sign up for a free class just to try it.

Thrilled to begin Krav Maga training here. The people are awesome, Master Rodriguez is funny and…read morecharismatic but more importantly an effective and energizing instructor. I left my first class last night feeling so empowered I'm at a loss for words for this post. Ask about a free trial class if you're unsure - but truly, nothing is more worthy an investment than in the ability to protect yourself and your children.

My son had never participated in anything like this before but as soon as he had his first class he really loved it and kept asking to continue . I like how the coaches don't treat the kids like babies and add a sense of discipline. Jake is one of the coaches there and it's really awesome to see him calling the kids by their names and supporting them throughout the class.

First off, I am obsessed with Muay Thai. Been training since 2014 and competing since 2017, with 3…read moremonths training in Thailand. I'm not a great fighter at all but muay thai is something I truly love. I look forward to it at the end of the day and see it as something that gives and rejuvenates me rather than taking away from me. Anyways, I came to TAG MT during a business trip and had known about this school already from watching TAG MT youtube instructional vids. I came early and got to see the kids class. It's a great balance of technical drills but also having lots of fun as the reward. The coaches are great and the kids look up to them, fully engaged and are adorable in their big Muay Thai shorts :P Head Instructor Kru Chris Aboy has an amazing personality and teaching style. His encyclopedic knowledge and teaching methodology is phenomenal. He can read each student individually while also making adjustments to the class as a whole depending on where everyone is at with the previous drill. You don't feel left behind at all. Coach James is amazing as well leading the partner drills and demos (for both Kids + Adults). In general, Phase 1 covers fundamental techniques including movement, defense, attacks, and counters through progressive partner drills. Coaches will demo technique, then go around reading students and providing helpful corrections and explaining the reasons why. Calistechnics and shadowboxing in-between rounds really push the conditioning. Controlled sparring drills towards the end adds just enough unpredictability yet retaining safety and technique. Phase 2 builds upon Phase 1 and adds in more advanced drills, focusing on more advanced strategies and technical sparring. For seasoned nak muay, TAG offers an in-depth knowledge and well rounded in all aspects. I really love their elbow/knee/clinch game. Nothing is watered down at all. I learned a LOT of new details to improve my technique is just one session. Most importantly, I felt taken care of and safe the entire time. If you live in the DC Metro Area and are interested in learning Muay Thai, whether it's for self-defense or competition, I strongly suggest checking out TAG Muay Thai. You will learn authentic, pure hard-hitting Muay Thai at TAG, along with the humility and respect of Traditional Muay Thai.

Hidy Ochiai Karate stood out above them all! Their classes go beyond the regular karate classes that other martial arts places provide. Here, they also do Kobudo which we learned is the use of ancient weapons! Trust me, your kids will go bonkers for this class!! It's taught in an extremely safe way, but still makes the kids feel like ninja superstars! I kind of want to take it myself :D Our daughter also did the summer camp this past summer and she loved it! She came home with real calligraphy paintings! Another thing that pushes them to the top is that they have Master Hidy Ochiai himself who comes down from New York to do special teachings with the kids each month. Look him up on YouTube and watch him slice an apple on someone's neck .... wait for it .... blindfolded! His skills are incredible and he is incredible with the kids as well. This school is in no competition with any other Martial Arts place because it's THAT good! I want to write a novel on here, lol, but I won't. Just one last thing to note: Sensei Winkler himself is AHmazing with the kids too. The way he talks and interacts with the kids makes them listen and have fun. I've sat and watched him a number of times when my daughter is in class. He's structured and fun, which is exactly what my daughter needs! Sensei Winkler is an incredible teacher because he has a lifetime of experience and many trophies from national Championship tournaments! You have to at the very least come to their free class on Saturdays!
