They will not get back with you about quotes or shops and pressure you to sign paperwork instead. It all began when I bought a new car. I called them and asked for a quote of how much it would cost to add my new car to my current insurance policy, as well as for a shop of the carriers they work with to see if they might be able to get me a better deal. They said they'd get back to me. I waited for a week and didn't hear anything, so I called once again. They said that somehow they had the incorrect VIN number and had left me a voicemail to let me know. (I never received a voicemail, and they had conveniently forgotten to write down the phone number they called me at, so there was no way to verify if they called the correct phone number.) I asked, once again, for a quote and a shop. They said they'd send me the paperwork to sign. I said no, I don't want to sign paperwork, I want a quote of how much it would be first before purchasing. They told me it was agency policy that I must first put my vehicle on my current insurance policy before being able to shop other carriers -- in essence, I had to buy insurance to be able to buy insurance, which is silly. In the state of Texas, your current auto insurance coverage is extended to your new vehicle if you're replacing an old vehicle on your policy for 30 days. (I verified this with Travelers insurance. The rep I spoke to at Mike Powell Insurance also admitted this when I pressed her.) I asked again for a quote and a shop, and the rep I was speaking with said she'd have to get Mike's permission to do so without adding my new vehicle to my current policy first (although legally, I was insured for 30 days, which had not yet expired). The rep called me back later and told me that Mike had given special permission for the quote and shop, but he also wanted me to know that it could cause a lot of "hassle" if I were to get pulled over or to be at fault in an accident in the meantime. (Still trying to convince me to sign paperwork, which I wasn't willing to do yet.) I then asked her how quickly they could get me a quote, and she told me it'd take a WEEK. I reminded her that I was on a timeline (30 days, remember?) and I needed the quote as soon as possible. She began to argue with me and I then reminded her that I had been asking for a quote for the past 2 weeks, and asked to receive the quote in the next day or two. She said okay, she'd put a "rush" on the request. Two days expired. On the second day, I called around 4:30pm to check on the status of the quote and spoke with the same rep. She told me that the agent to whom the quote was assigned had gone home for the day, they would come in at 9:00am the next day, and would then give me a call. I never received a call. Three days had now expired. Clearly, I was not going to get a quote any time soon. I called them again, and this time, I requested the paperwork to cancel my insurance. The receptionist who answered asked me why, and I told her that it was because I never received the quote that I had asked for multiple times. "Oh..." she said, "I'm sorry to hear that." She did not try to see if there was a way they could keep me as a client, or ask if Mike could give me a call, or remedy the situation in any way whatsoever. I called a different insurance agency and they got me a quote, as well as shopped with difference insurance carriers to get me the best rate, within 24 hours. I was very disappointed with the quality of customer service I received and strongly advise against using this agency for any sort of insurance needs.

The person at the agency said that she followed up daily on my issue. She must not be very good at her job. Farmers claims are very good. However, paying your bill is a hassle for you. State Farm originally approached us about insuring our handyman business. Before the policy was written, we provided detailed financial information and a complete list of the services we perform. We were fully transparent about our operations, including the fact that we perform pressure washing. We relied on the agency to review this information and confirm that State Farm could properly insure our business. After going through underwriting, canceling our existing coverage, and spending considerable time transferring the policy, State Farm issued the policy and we began paying the required premium. Approximately five weeks later, the agency asked whether we performed pressure washing--even though it had been disclosed on the information we originally provided. We were then told State Farm could no longer insure us. As a result, we had to start the entire process over again: find another insurance company, provide all our business information again, complete another underwriting process, and spend hours shopping for replacement liability coverage. This could have been avoided if proper due diligence had been completed before the State Farm policy was issued. Approximately six months later, State Farm audited the short period in which we were insured. During the audit, we were told that all payroll had to be classified under a carpenter classification, including the owners and office employees who perform no carpentry or fieldwork. Because the audit happened to include one of our busiest payroll months, the final charge was approximately double our normal monthly premium. We disputed the classification and the additional charge, but our concerns were not resolved, and the bill was ultimately sent to collections. My greatest frustration is that we provided the agency with the information it requested and clearly disclosed the work our company performs. In my opinion, the agency did not adequately review that information before issuing the policy, leaving our business to deal with the time, expense, stress, and disruption that followed. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this agency for commercial liability insurance. Business owners should carefully confirm--in writing--that every service they provide is covered and that office and ownership payroll will be classified appropriately before accepting a policy.

She made a frustrating process easy, answered questions clear, was fun to talk to. She did all the leg work well before my call and I work 12 hours a day. Finding time to call companies is not fun or feasible to be on the line for an hour just to get bad news. She had better rates lined up, I paid and boom done! If you want lower rates I would recommend Josie time and time again. Superior customer service skills. Wish I could say the same for Allstate.

Our roof has a gigantic hole and missing shingles all over, all of insulation in our attic was destroyed, there is inside damage from water leaking through the hole, wired smoke detector system was destroyed, and we no longer have a fence due to Hurricane Beryl. State Farm is saying that it will only cost $2,000 to repair everything. (The smoke detector system will cost more than that.) The estimates we've received average about $31,000 for just the roof. Butch is absolutely useless and doesn't even have knowledge of the appraisal process. He actually told me that he would hire an attorney if it were him. Why should I have to retain an attorney? Why can't SF just honor their policies? Do what I've been paying you to do! You can look at the picture of my roof and common sense should tell you that it would cost far more than our $9000 deductible to fix that. Also, no reputable contractor is just going to patch that.

She offered to bundle my mother's home and car as a discount. That save her a few dollars but I felt her policy was still high. I requested a quote from a different Nationwide broker and got a better quote. Nationwide is Nationwide, the policy quote from different brokers should be fairly the same. I called Bonita back and explained what I had discovered. Initially she gave me some push back about researching for a better quote. After a little back and forward, Bonita presented an insurance quote that made us happy. Bonita's wiliness to spend a few hours working directly to improve my mother's policy has clarified why my mother has stayed with Nationwide for so many years.
