Just came back from a relaxing week at the Tides, unit 403. After indulging on the beach all day we would have drinks at the restaurants below and the steak house across the street is fantastic. My family and I were guests at The Tides, room 403 from 8/20/22 thru 8/27/22. We have been guests at The Tides for several years and always found the rentals to be well kept, a positive reflection of the individual owners of the condominium units. This was not at all the case on our most recent visit. Upon entry to the room we were greeted by a very strong musty odor, and stained wall-to-wall carpeting. We immediately told our children they were not to walk barefoot through the unit, not knowing what they might be stepping on. The general condition of the apartment was poor. Walls, doors and switches (especially in the bathroom) were filthy. At best the bathroom might compare to one you might find in a cheap motel. There was pubic hair and other matter on the floor. My wife and I cleaned the bathroom floor ourselves with supplies we had to purchase at the local grocery store. We also purchased plug-in air fresheners in an attempt to mask the odor of the unit. It's hard to believe this disaster of living quarters could be in such close proximity to the beautiful beaches of Cape May. We used the room only when we had to, avoiding it morning through night. In summary, the condition of room 403 is the equivalent of a fraternity house. The owner obviously doesn't care about her guests, rather collecting a $3,000 check from weekly renters without being bothered. Now for The Tides. A staff member admitted the room was "disgusting", but there is nothing they can do about it other than passing the information along to the owner. They do however advertise the room on their website, so I am challenging The Tides to do the right thing. In addition to the photos posted on their website, I would like to see the photos I took for this Yelp review added to the website for room 403. In all fairness, vacationers who have saved several thousand dollars to visit beautiful Cape May should know what they are spending their money on and not be deceived. In my opinion, if The Tides doesn't step up and let potential guests know the true condition of their rooms, they are just as unethical as the owner of room 403. read more

Our first time at The Tides, and we will be back! We stayed at unit 503. We loved the layout, decor and all of the comfy seating. The unit was spotless! The beds were so comfortable. So many special and thoughtful touches by the owners were greatly appreciated. The heated pool was great. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The owner, Bill was amazing. We would strongly suggest staying away from The Tides Condominium in Cape May and particularly away from unit 414. During a vacation, we rented this unit based on earlier discussions with The Tides's Manager, and based on the view of the beach from the master bedroom as shown on The Tides's own web site and Cape May Rentals' web site. When we arrived at the unit, we noted that the view from the master bedroom was not the view discussed with The Manager and that it also did not reflect the actual view from the master bedroom as shown by pictures on The Tides's and Cape May Rentals's respective web sites. The actual view was very different: - The actual view includes the back entrances and roof tops of restaurant buildings. These restaurant buildings are immediately in front of the condominium building: the side that faces the beach and ocean. - From the master bedroom, one can also see the mechanical units on the roof tops including fans that seem to be part of the restaurants' A/C systems, and one can also see 5 trash dumpsters. Had pictures of the actual view been shown on the said web sites, or had we been informed of the actual view during our communication with the Manager, we certainly would have taken all of that into consideration during our decision-making process. Instead, we were forced to deal with the noise coming from the fans on the roof tops of the restaurant buildings; deal with the sounds of trash being disposed of (including the crackling sounds of bottles as one of the trash dumpsters was for bottles only); the sounds of trucks coming by in the mornings to collect the trash; and the loud talking and laughter of restaurant staff (cooks, servers, etc.) going out to the back of the restaurants to smoke cigarettes. In addition, we were further disappointed to note that the unit was not entirely or properly cleaned prior to our arrival, and that the A/C in the unit was working very poorly to the point that it did not seem to be working at all - the temperature within the unit was 80F. There was dust on the table tops, night stands and floors, and there was also scum in the bath tub. All of these issues were brought to the attention of The Tides' Manager. And to our surprise, the Manager advised that the issue regarding the view had been brought to her attention at least 4 times in the past! Yes, at least 4 times! And, despite that, they continued to have what clearly appears to be manipulated pictures of the view on The Tides's and Cape May Rentals' web sites. Having checked both web sites recently, they still show the same view. The Manager said that one of the previous renters had asked for a refund, but the owners of the unit had objected to this. The Manager went on to advise that she felt other renters of this same unit had to have felt the same way even though they did not raise the said issues. The Manager suggested that we communicate directly with the owners of the unit, who are friends of hers, to resolve these issue. Our response was that, not having had any communication with the owners at all, all communication including communication pertaining to the view having been with the Manager, and the picture of the distorted view also being on the Tides' web site, we feel that she needs to take responsibility or take the lead in resolving these issues, which includes communicating with the owners. We were later informed, according to the Manager that the owners (again, friends of hers) not only objected to being flexible (i.e. giving us a reduced price for renting the unit, or giving us a refund so that we could move out), they also objected to make arrangements for a cleaning service to stop by and clean the unit. The Manager and the owners of the unit did not seem willing to be flexible or accommodating despite all the said issues. We decided to move out of the unit and condominium building altogether, and lose the money we paid. We ended up moving into a condominium building close called The Summer Station. When we told them of our experience at The Tides Condominum while we were checking-in, they were so shocked that the Manager gave us a discount - something that he obviously did not have to do. The Manager went out of his way to ensure that we had a wonderful stay. And we did. He was a true class act. We feel that we, and, it seems, other earlier renters based on what the Manager advised, were the victims of false advertising. The pictures of the view on the Tides' and Cape May Rentals' respective web sites strongly appear to have been deliberately manipulated by intentionally not photographing the actual/entire view from the master bedroom or by photo cropping - the latter seems far more likely than the former. read more

My family (one child, now 11) and I have rented a house or condo on the Jersey Shore for the past 5-6 years, and The Tides was excellent in every way. We found it a good balance between the very quiet (but too far from the beach and/or restaurants) and the very convenient but noisy-- the unit itself was VERY quiet, the beach was steps away (and visible from the front window of the unit), and we never had to get in a car to go anywhere. But the best thing about the Tides is the unusually competent, friendly, and helpful staff. Maria Mulville and her staff were unbelievably thoughtful, especially keeping us updated during the 2-day delay caused by Hurricane Irene, and working with us to eliminate every possible inconvenience thereafter. 4 stars, not 5, because this is not in any way a "secluded getaway," but if there were 6 stars for service The TIdes would deserve it. read more

Just returned from our annual week long vacation to cape may. The Tides is very convenient to everything in cape may. It was very clean and had very friendly people working and staying there. The walk to the beach is about 20 seconds and the walk to some of the greatest restaurants and shops is about 40 seconds. So I would say if location is what you are looking for with a reasonable rate then the tides is for you. What I didn't like about it : the layout of the rooms. We had to walk in a giant horseshoe to get to our room every time. Not so bad though. The kitchen was very small so if you plan on cooking you need to let one person cook and keep it simple. It also had a corner ocean view which I wish had a balcony, that probably would have upgrade them to 4 stars. Carneys back door is right there so it can get a little noisy at times. The wifi is extremely spotty and I had to walk around the room to different spots to get service. We had an issue one day with the a/c and although it did not get fixed right away the owner was quick to respond and actually came out to the place himself to try and repair. All in all we had a great stay hear. btw we were 2 adults and 1 9 month old baby and we had a few visitors that stayed with us during the week. We will look at other places for next year but would definitely return. read more

We have been returning to The Tides each year for many years and we love it. The staff is wonderful and have always been very responsive to any request. It is clean, has a wonderful courtyard where you can have any meal. One of the nicest things is that when you arrive, they have young, teenage kids who unpack your car and then deliver everything to your room! Wish I could take them home with me!! And they are really nice kids. The pool is great. While you are right across the street from the beach, it's nice to take a dip after the beach. We have found the people who are guests there are for the most part, very nice and friendly. Every now and then we have had parents who kind of ignore their children's bad behavior, but even that was dealt with by staff. Being able to have your car right there is really convenient. One year, when we came into our unit, the owner had left a bottle of wine and a hand written note to welcome us. Now that doesn't happen everywhere! We go for two weeks every year and I would definitely recommend it. read more
