They get major…read morepoints for being able to accommodate seven of us on a busy Apple Blossom Festival weekend and for being just downright lovely from start to finish. It was extremely easy to book by phone and they offer a range of rooms depending on what your needs are for your stay. We actually got a bigger suite sort of thing outside of the main inn (about $138/night) complete with a two-person jacuzzi tub, pull-out couch, and a bed so comfortable that I almost scrapped all plans for of a two-day snooze. The family running the Tattingstone were never far during out stay but were also happy to just give us the run of the place as need be. While they enjoyed a glass of wine with friends near the heated outdoor pool, we didn't feel at all weird about grabbing our own glasses from the kitchen to enjoy some local port in under the gazebo. Very chill and just what we were looking for. In the morning, a complimentary breakfast is served but it's not your average continental. We all scored delicious French Toast with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped yogurt parfaits, and fresh-squeezed orange juice. Walkable from downtown Wolfville (under 1km) and within $5-7 cab from just about anywhere you'd need to go, the Tattingstone is a great home base for your Valley stay.

This is a review of the food only…read more The main floor of the ornate inn is largely used as the dining area for their restaurant. Where you can enjoy a 3-course meal ($62.50). Or add an extra $2.50 to receive a small salad course between the main and dessert. For those want a smaller dinner, dishes are also available a la carte (prices reflected in this post). Their tomato bruschetta ($14) uses a decadent whipped ricotta as the base, building upon the classic ingredients of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a balsamic reduction. With tons of flavours and not as messy to eat, this was a wonderful starting bite. Arriving as a big chunk, the maple smoked salmon ($14) could benefit from a bit of preparation to present it in a crostini form. The candy sweet salmon was powerful on its own but balances out with the maple yogurt sauce and baguette. A bit of pickled red onion and/or arugula would add some freshness the dish needs. Save some of that bread for the steamed mussels ($14), classically prepared in a white wine and garlic broth. I rather enjoyed the bell pepper used throughout for colour and added flavour. The mussels just needed to be soaked longer as they were still several gritty crustaceans. You can't go wrong with seafood in Nova Scotia. The pan seared halibut ($37) was perfectly cooked to a flaky and moist consistency. The thick meaty piece could use more seasoning but if you get enough of the 'hodge podge', a medley of vegetables cooked in a cream sauce, onto the fish it helps to add flavour. The scallops in the scallops picatta ($37) were beautifully seared and just cooked through. The natural sweetness of the seafood was also prominent since the lemon caper sauce used with the pappardelle wasn't too strong. With a touch more salt, this dish would have been perfect. While the lobster linguine ($44; $7 supplement with the prix fixe) smelled good, the dish was majorly lacking on taste. The spaghetti was overcooked, and everything screamed for more seasoning, butter, and acid. My nose was more impressed than the tongue. This is a long review, for the rest go to Gastro World.

It's right on the bay and the tides are amazing. We definitely plan to return some day.

The number of cottages (some spacious and some small with a redeemingly cuteness) helps to ensure availability and provides a village-like walkabout. You can chose to use the outdoor communal furniture and fire pit to socialize with neighbouring travellers while the young'ns use the playground, or you can borrow a portable bbq and hang out on your patio with a good book. Beyond it's physical beauty, the new owners Wendy and Jay, and their staff, fill this space with an accommodating and welcoming energy. I felt immediately welcome and continued to be surprised by their generous dedication to making sure my family had the most comfortable stay possible. Riverview cottages is close to many amenities and is a 15 minute walk to "downtown Parrsboro". I have stayed in these cottages on many occasions and it is a sure good time. Even though the river (which is actually an aboiteau) now runs low, this place is rushing with welcoming feelings and relaxing vibes.

We booked our cabins with the previous owners over a year ago as we were planning a family reunion…read more Once the new owners came on board we discussed that we wanted as many of the cabins as possible - so we were able to secure 7 cabins for about 20 people and 4 dogs. Everyone stayed a minimum of 2 nights with half of us staying 5-7 days. When we discussed our plans with the new owners back in April 2012. They were aware that we were a large group, that we wanted to be able to put the children to bed and stay up with the adults and socialize with our family we only get to see every few years. They assured us that they planned on putting in fire pits and that this would not be a problem. Family travelled from around North America to come to this reunion. When we arrived we find multiple signs all over the place stating 11pm quiet time. The signs say noise after 11pm police will be called, this is your final warning and so on. We also found out that there were no fire pits built. We offered to buy a stand alone movable pit to use during out stay and that we would leave it. We were given a firm/rude "no". The quiet time is more like a curfew. At 10:55 each night the owners come around and ask you to go into your cabins. The cabins are rustic, which I like, but there is no insulation for noise so when 15 people are crowded into one cabin to visit, it get noisy. If there had been fire pits away from the cabins, we would have happily hung out there. There were also a number of instances where they said rude/strange things to members of our group. They definitely lack customer service skills and they customer is not always right. Here are some examples: 1. Family with two kids drives into the cabins and asks "where is the office?" Answer: "Didn't you see the signs???" 2. For two groups of people when they arrived from long distances in the early afternoon, they were made to wait for the 3pm check in time even though their cabins were completely ready. This meant a mom and two kids under 4 napped in their car in the heat. 3. Husband arrives a day later than his wife. Comment from owners "well check in isn't until 3pm - why are you here???" His wife had checked in the day before so it wasn't an issue so then they said "Those dogs better be friendly - we have guests who are afraid of dogs." They website clearly states pet friendly and we all called and made sure they knew we were bringing dogs. We had previously thought we might book the whole complex for the next reunion weekend n 2 years. After the way we were all treated we will be looking elsewhere. The cottages themselves are great - very rustic but charming unto themselves. Very much unlike the owners.

Accommodating our need for use of their freezer to hold frozen food we needed for the trip. Very dog friendly, not surprising when you meet their own dogs: one very large the other tiny, yet very amicable together. We stayed at the carriage house suite ("the Annapolis" ) which was very convenient and comfortable: one bedroom and a large adjacent sitting area. Immaculate and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable, not what you usually get on the road: "Bed" - checked!! As for the "Breakfast" portion of the Inn - way more exquisite than ordinary B&B would be: Each day started with a unique 3 course breakfast, and the most accurate description is quoted from their website: "The first two courses often include one of the following: Yogurt Parfait, with homemade granola, Nova Scotia local berries and vanilla yogurt. Homemade muffins or scones, made with Nova Scotia local berries and served warm. Fresh fruit platter (in season) The final course, often referred to as "Oh, my gosh, more food!" often includes one of the following: Nova Scotia Apple Delight - light and fluffy eggs combined with local apples, baked to perfection and lightly sprinkled with sugar and served with Nova Scotia maple syrup and blueberry sauce. Not Your Average Scrambled Eggs - farm fresh free range eggs scrambled with Gruyere cheese and fresh chives, local sausage or bacon with Rod's famous homemade Nova Scotia brown bread. OMG - homemade Belgian Waffles or buttermilk pancakes topped with local berries served with Nova Scotia maple syrup, and local sausages." We can attest to the veracity of all statement, and their delicious taste - baked/cooked/fried to perfection by Chef Rod, graciously served by a very friendly Lynn. To top it all up - although we had our own plans for touring the Annapolis Vally, we consulted with Rod and Lynn, and got an excellent response - meaning not only did they have a suggestion, but they "happened" to also have a local map to serve us while exploring this gorgeous region. Highly recommend this Inn as a starting point for anyone visiting the area. Thank you Lynn and Rod, hope to see you again when we next visit the area!
