Pelvic Flpor PT was a vital part of my recovery post baby #2. From the moment I stepped into her office, Dr. Nakamura was friendly, welcoming and professional. She explained everything to me and took her time getting to know my and understand my concerns to put together a game plan. I didn't do PT after my first baby and I could tell a difference between the 2 recoveries. I began seeing Dr. Elizabeth about 1.5 yrs postpartum for some pelvic floor issues that started popping up. She was so warm and comforting from the moment I walked in, her office space is clean and airy, and she really took the time to discuss everything I was feeling and dealing with to get all the information she needed. Her physical exam was thorough and informative, and she was professional and comforting with the internal exam as well. She worked around my busy schedule and gave a thorough home plan for me to work on between visits. She noted my goals for treatment so she could tailor my care towards that. Her treatment appointments consisted of reviewing how I was feeling and how the exercises were going. Then she would do some body work externally and internally, if needed, and then worked on new strength exercises. Overall, I was feeling and noticing significant improvement in my symptoms after 1-2 sessions with her. And now that I've completed my program, I feel I'm 99% back to my normal self. I do have a little more strengthening that I need to do for that last 1%, that she addressed in my last appointment. I've been coming to see Dr. Nakamura for almost a year now and have been more than happy with the care she provides. My diastasis recti worsened after my 2nd pregnancy and the weak core muscles made it hard to even get out of bed. I followed her from her previous location to her new practice with ample room stocked with a variety of exercising equipment. I have had an incredible experience at Tidal Physical Therapy. At first I almost passed on seeing Dr. Nakamura as she does not take insurance (she can provide a superbill for possible reimbursement), but after my initial (very thorough) consultation (lasted almost 2 hours) I realized you truly get what you pay for. I've seen other PTs in the past, and it is always a quick check in, you're given a list of exercises to do at home and MAYBE they will do a bit of muscle work or electrical stim if you're lucky and then they rush to the next patient. Dr. Nakamura spends the entire appointment working on or working with you on the therapies needed. Within a few sessions, she was able to help me resolve several of the issues I came to her with. She helped me better understand my body's nuances - not just to resolve the postpartum challenges I've had, but to rebuild my strength so I can get back to being active in a healthy way without injury. I am so incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Liz! Her expertise in pelvic floor therapy has been an absolute game changer in my postpartum recovery. She is incredibly thorough in her evaluations and has such extensive technical knowledge of the body which has helped unlock so much progress for me. As a point of comparison, I have been a patient at Hoag's pelvic floor program since my pregnancy and continued to receive treatment there in postpartum recovery. Since it can be quite difficult to schedule consistent appointments at Hoag, I sought out Tidal PT as a supplement since I didn't want to have to wait so long between sessions. I was initially hesitant as I do have to pay out of pocket at Tidal PT, but oh my gosh, it is worth every single penny and then some! I was very pleasantly surprised at how thorough and holistic Dr. Liz's approach was upon our first evaluation. She assessed for so many more things that my PTs at Hoag had completely missed or simply don't do. She actually takes her time in each session to understand what's going on for me that week and does a great job of balancing hands-on treatment alongside showing me physical therapy exercises that I can then do between sessions. Dr.Nakamura has been a life saver for helping me identify muscle groups I need to strengthen so that I can prevent pain and not hurt myself in the gym. I have an issue with internally rotating my knees which causes some issues with over activating my quads and it has lead to some pain and not achieving my workout goals. Dr. Nakamura changed my life. I was having huge postpartum issues with my pelvic floor. My issues were humiliating, discouraging, and prevented me from enjoying being away from home. I couldn't go to PT through my primary care, since their offices didn't allow any kids and my work schedule didn't align with their hours. This is rather an unusual situation to experience this with a health related personnel. I've never had any experiences with pelvic PT until I came to see Elizabeth. Though I didn't know how I should be progressing or what I should expect, I continued to see her until she stopped responding to me. I tried all the ways of communication that I had access to but did get any responses. Since I couldn't continue my sessions and was left hanging, I had to search for a new provider and start from the beginning. When I reached out to discus about the finances because it was a lot of out of pocket amount that I had to paid, she responded that she won't be approving that and even mentioned that I signed a contract that stated that the treatments may not work. I was baffled, not only I don't remember that but that means that technically all healthcare providers can essentially say that after getting thousands of dollars from patients and not helping them through, but at least they tried one would think. To this day, I still don't know what happened, if it was that she no longer wanted to work with me, she doesn't feel confident in her skills since she didn't reply when I asked her if she knew certain techniques that were recommended by another PT, or something else since I never got an explanation let alone an apology for what happened. I don't know if I am just unlucky or this has happened to others but I am unaware of. All the professionals who I talked to about it were surprised and couldn't understand either. I wish I'd known sooner that it would be like this so I can start with someone else, save time, money, and most importantly, get the help that I need. read more

I have been seeing Dr Elizabeth for a year. I have made HUGE strides in improvement regarding my physical health. From the start, I was impressed with her history taking, not just reviewing what I completed in the screening questionnaire, but going further and diving deeper into the injury, repercussion/symptoms and methodologies that I've tried in the past. I have to tell you, in my lifetime I have seen MANY, and I mean MANY PT's. I have made great leaps and bounds because of the "whole body" and "finding the root cause" approach she has implemented into her practice. If you have stress urinary incontinence as a result of pregnancy, or any pelvic floor dysfunction, you NEED to see a pelvic floor physical therapist. If you have orthopedic pain/injuries, you see a physical therapist. My past experience with physical therapy always seemed one-sided. I'd see the therapist, I talk about my situation, they see how the pain is replicated, they show me exercises and I'm then on my own with a PT assistant to do the exercises. I didn't truly get the type of results that I felt satisfied with. I have been working with Dr Elizabeth for the last three months and am so grateful to have found her. I came in to see Elizabeth for a full Pelvic floor exam as well as to gain knowledge on how to incorporate ALL of my core and pelvic floor muscles during exercise. As a fitness professional, I work with a lot of female clients and moms and she helped me to tune into the deeper more visceral areas of the core to gain more stability and at the same time to be able to let go and relax those muscles as well (both are equally important). I am a mom of 2 young kids and both were C sections. She worked on my tummy and did mayo fascial release all the way down over my scar to break up the "congestion" in that area. I shared with her that last month I had a bad period with very painful cramping and the flow was a bit constricted, which made things worse. She explained how this release would help with that, and in a matter of a couple days I started my period and it was not painful and the flow was so much easier! omg I feel amazing, lighter, my tummy is flat, and not bloated!
