WHAT A HECK OF A WOMAN! BIGGGGEEEESSSTTT heart in Preston, but the rest of the staff ain't that far behind). The hotel itself is shameful outdated and lacking anything comfortable. The tub is a safety hazard, sinks are old, carpets are dingy, sheets are see-through, pillows are questionable... everything hotel nightmares are made out of... yet its one of the better places in town! But it is close to the train station and to UClan, and the staff will do anything to make up for the embarisingly (is that even a word?) conditions of this worn and beat up hotel. Because the staff is quite frankly - too good for the hotel or any luxury hotel - they are downright working class divinity and should all be hugged and commended for their wonderful, wonderful humanity!

Thankfully there was a sign on the wrong side, so I at least knew I was on the wrong side of it! I would have found the reception on the first floor unusual, except I'd seen it at a Travelodge only three weeks ago - so now I thinks it's actually sensible. On arrival I checked in via an electronic kiosk - that is unusual, but it was very quick and there was still a staff member on hand should it not work. In fact, it's worth saying that every staff member I talked to here were exceptionally friendly. Room was fine - minimalist, but functionary. Free wifi was painful, but the paid wifi was only a fiver, so an easy choice. Still not a super fast connection, but better than I've had at some hotels. Bathroom was a decent size, and the shower had excellent pressure. If I have to stay overnight again in Preston, then I would want to stay here again. Everything was effortless.

The bed was very comfortable and we really appreciated the high ceilings, beautiful grounds, and enjoyed our walks around the estate. If you're working like we were, note that the internet is indeed fast enough for a developer who runs team meetings to lead all their meetings! I had a spa session with massage and facial and it was excellent! I swam every day and used the sauna facilities. The locker room and pool area was kept very clean and dry. The lady attendant was fastidious in keeping the changing room dry and clean. There was a bit of an incident where one of my favorite vintage pieces I sent off to laundry was not returned to us when they dropped off our clean clothes. I had actually been at the entrance to the hotel when the cleaner dropped it off and I verbally acknowledged to her that I could see my laundry because of my vintage piece and she stated they'd be delivered to my room shortly. Front staff sent back an empty hanger amongst our other clean clothes and had lost it. We found it on the floor amongst boxes behind the reception desk. They returned my item, and apologized personally. Not a big deal and glad it was resolved.

Lot of swearing, screaming, hitting and shouting in the room next to us. Police intervention, mr roach was arrested and poor kelly brought to hospital by ambulance. In other words, our first night was not very restful! Sure that the hotel can't do anything about this, however some pro active compensation would have been in order. The downside of this hotel is the aggressive pricing for wedding packages, meaning that there are many wedding parties going on. I counted six in two days, which brings a lot of drunkards to the hotel, which does not help if you're seeking a quite place to relax. Will I ever get back to this hotel, no.

One of the bedside tables had also at some point in the recent past been forcibly detached from the bed headboard. The sign in the lift could do with some floor numbers on it too. Close enough to the city centre to walk easily, good view over the city from the fourth floor and not in a noisy area. Not then the greatest of these places I've stayed in & I'd really have grudged shelling out £45 for the room but it served its purpose.

It seemed to be your average Travelodge, basic rooms and your normal facilities. On the plus side there was free parking which was safe and secure. The other being that if you wanted you could easily walk into the town centre which would take about ten minutes and is not diffcult to follow. The two staff members who were working were also very helpful, recommending a resteraunt and making the bookin on our behalf. There was small bar in the area but this had several noisy kids in the area and looked devoid of any atmosphere or welcoming area. As such the planned drink the planned drink before we went into town was cancelled.

First impressions were very good, clean, bright and very friendly staff. The rooms are very good and well kitted out, the restaurant / breakfast is excellent value but the bar is slightly pricey. The price varies according to how near Christmas it is, we are goind at the end of November because people have other things to do in Dec so we got the cheapest rate of £40 per head (think its £60 in Dec) sounds a lot but when you consider what you do get it isnt really. On arrival theres unlimited bucks fizz and canapes, you're then shown to your tables were there are bottles of red or white wine ( rose if you ask) when your bottle is empty you hold it up and its replaced very quickly meal is pre ordered starter served by you're waiter/ess. main is carvery with meat / veggi / fish choice help yourself to loads of veg / salad choices. pudding is pre ordered and served at your table. Theres a disco, and Christmas themed quiz to follow. You will get a ticket that you exchange at the bar after the meal, thats for your first drink, after that you need to take you're glass with you or you dont get served. All the drinks are named brands and there is no limit on how many times you go back to the bar. At 11.30 they serve mini fish and chips in cones then free bar closes at 12. They are doing a cheap rate on rooms if you would rather stay over. If you add up how much a meal, drink etc costs when they dont come as a package like this you can see what a bargain it is.

The food menu is nice & varied, not overpriced and the quality of the food is very good. I like the 'small eats' part of the menu for those that don't have a bit appetite or just want something small for their meal. The pub is split into two parts, with a sports bar at the back for those wanting a game of pool or catch up on the days sporting activities. The rooms to stay in are excellent, nice & clean and at a great price, the place as a whole is well managed and well looked after by the staff. The one thing that does stand out, is the cleanliness of the pub and the cleaning, particularly behind the bar. The pub/hotel is very handy for those shopping in the city centre, which is right near the Fishergate Shopping Centre and those of communters as it is situated across from the railway station.

Those looking for a decent pub meal in Preston will find that there aren't many options but this is a good pub to enjoy British Pub food. There is a sports bar area at the back showing Sky Sports and there is a small beer garden-more of a beer yard for smokers; and the front part of the pub is a dining/lounge area to relax while waiting for a train. We often use this as a meeting point before catching a train somewhere such as Lancaster on a night out; it is better than the train station bar with cheaper and better quality food and beers. The pub offers some good real ales and a good range of ciders, wines and lagers.

I stayed for one night on a recent visit. The hotel is a…read moremodern building on the M6 junction, next to the River Ribble. It has ample secure parking and a bar, restaurant and function rooms. Most of the guests seemed to be heading onwards on the motorway. The bar and restaurant are spacious, and the bar was busy most of the evening. My bedroom was also clean and very spacious, with a big and comfy bed. There are lawns sloping down to the river, with a decked terrace, which is very nice, although the view across the river is somewhat undermined by the roar of traffic on the nearby motorway (and the road bridges mar the view somewhat, too). The river is slow moving, so expect plenty of insect life. That was one of the main problem with my stay. It was very hot over 28C on my visit, and my room did not have air-conditioning. The window opening was limited by a safety catch, which meant it stayed hot, but still filled with insects, which I had to spend ten minutes disposing of (not really wanting to be feasted on by mosquitoes overnight). I tried to procure a fan, but room service wasn't responding. So I dressed and went down to reception, and then paged the night porter, who promised a fan but didn't deliver one. So I had a lousy night's sleep. On the upside, breakfast and daytime reception staff were lovely and very helpful, and the breakfast buffet was generous. Hot breakfasts are cooked to order. For my sticky and uncomfortable night, the hotel refunded part of the room-charge and the manager rang me a few days later and apologised as well. So, overall, I would happily stay again when it is cooler but maybe not in high summer, unless they install air-conditioning.
