This is a really decent hotel that I stayed in once when I came up for the weekend with my boyfriend to see family. It's fresh, contemporary and very reasonable, especially if you can get one of their deals. I think we paid £160 for a double room for 2 nights with breakfast included which was pretty cheap considering the standard of rooms and service. The rooms themselves were pretty spacious and the bathroom was like a modern walk-in wet room, a very nice touch. I would definitely make a return here or recommend it to a friend.

This is a toughie. I wanted to like it a lot, but try as I might, on every turn, there was something I didn't. This is a three star economy hotel masquerading as something more, and this is the problem - expectations are set and not met. If expectations were lower, I may have been happier. My star grading would be a 2.5, however I feel it's churlish to give it a 2, so let's go with a 3, I'm feeling generous! So - why the kerfuffle? Let's Start With The Good: - HUGE massive bed - the length of me lying across it, with my arms up! - You get six pillows with this massive bed. Six! - Excellent internet. No signing up / registering needed, and very fast - Brought me ear plugs to the room when I couldn't sleep from the noise Then The Bad: - Had to get ear plugs to the room as it was so noisy. I could actually hear the bathroom next door, and every single person walking down the hall - First impressions - the lobby is old and dated and reminded me of a Holiday Inn that had some nice furniture stuck in it - I had one lovely receptionist on the last day - the rest, in particular the manager guy, were unfriendly, unsmiling, and would honestly put you in a bad mood - The bathroom was seriously rough round the edges - patches of mismatched paint around the place, rough edges from tiles, cheaply fitted out, only a two products. And no bathrobes! Booo - That massive bed - yeah it's huge but it feels like a camp bed when you're lying on it. Really thin mattress & very springy. Also no comfy duvet, but a thin, heavy comforter that seemed like underneath the white cover, it'd been around for a while. - The breakfast is really depressing. Each morning I went down, there were just scraps around the Continental breakfast side. I ordered a vege cooked breakfast both times - this was ok. I sent it back the first time as the poached egg was so hard I was barely able to slice it open. All in all, I feel like if you are going to go to all the effort of buying stylish furniture and taking trendy photos, you should also have the foresight to train your staff in being upbeat and friendly, make sure sure smaller details aren't overlooked like crappy toilets, and serve good food.

Newly refurbished. Love their cocktails presentation, for example their Mai Tai served in a tankard just like Captain Jack Sparrow. Beautiful and elegant decor. In terms of their food, I can't stop recommending the mac and cheese with truffle oil enough ( not because I'm addicted to it) but seriously creamy and full of flavour. Also the beef bourguignon melts in your mouth.Definitely give yourself pat on the back guys!!

However. The Upper Brook Street hotel is by far one of the best especially, if like me, you are wanting to find a hotel for Manchester Pride. Every August Bank Holiday hotels all over Manchester charge extortionate amounts to stay in the city. This travelodge however works out at around £100-£120 for two nights. So £60 each (£30 a night) or about £40/£30 if you get a family room for 3/4 people. That's a bargain price for a hotel that is just 10 minutes away or less from Canal St in a taxi. This year we used Uber which was never more than £3-£5 to get to the city. The rooms are a great size and the hotel is only a couple of years old so nice a fresh and they have just updated all the beds to super comfy king size! I loved it. So Pride goers or those looking for a night out in Manchester, I recommend this place if you are looking for somewhere at the weekend when the hotels in the city centre are not in your budget.

Extra towels on request no problem, slight niggle with bulb being out in corridor, which being in an end room made the key card slot a little difficult to find in the semi-dark! TV channels also not in order and random, no ch5, and only 3 radio chamnels Kevin, on Reception was very friendly and helpful, and there is a Tesco Express, Morrisons, Subway, Costa and takeaways etc closeby

At first I thought we should be going to weatherspoons as its much much cheaper but after being persuaded I never looked back. You have your choice of juice (Apple, orange, cranberry) coffee, tea and 5 or 6 different herbal teas and water. You can either enjoy a delicious plate of hot food with all your standard full English ingredients, all hot, mostly fresh or tuck into a lighter, cold option of fruit, cereal or pastries, however I think the pastries are included in a different, cheaper package. You can go back as many times as you like for more food and there's a toast machine where you make your own toast and enjoy with butter or a selection of different jams and marmalade. The seating area is very bright and very clean. The staff were really friendly and helpful and you didn't get too much attention that it became annoying. The atmosphere was quite loud on my visit but it was a Saturday morning and all the youngsters were looking hungover and regretful. You can walk in here anytime to get a table however it may not be guaranteed as the customers of the hotel would come first I presume. Only issue; I didn't get any mushrooms as they were being prepared in the kitchen as I got my food and by the time they were ready, I was full. But very satisfied. Would definitely recommend breakfast at this hotel, weather your staying here or not. Excellent.

Lunch and breakfast were good and tasty at the in-house restaurant. Hotel staff was great - they were able to get a room ready for us for an early check-in when we arrived from the airport. And when we had to check out early due to a family emergency back in the States, they graciously gave us a refund of the unused days that we booked (I didn't even inquire about this possibility!). This worked well for a quick stay before a flight out of Manchester Airport the next morning. Nice for Hilton Honors members. I got a room upgrade, drink vouchers, complimentary mini bar items, and free breakfast with my account. The warm cookie (for all) at check-in is pleasant as well. There's a restaurant and bar onsite. The breakfast buffet was nice! Full English and continental options. I liked the touch of having small individual pots of Bonne Maman jam as well. Delicious with a croissant and coffee. We didn't have much time to do anything in Manchester, but I was able to squeeze in a little walk in the area - saw Piccadilly Garden, Chinatown, the Alan Turing Memorial in a nice little park and walked through the colorful streets of the Gay Village neighborhood. Lots of dining options near the hotel, and a Tesco for big bottled waters (for us Americans, haha).

Check-in took me less than 5 minutes total. No issues, no hassle and they even comped me a breakfast for the next morning, which is typically £17.50. So that was nice. The room, it was amazing. Big, beautiful and very accommodating. The bed was great, large, comfortable and I fit on it, which seems to be a rarity. In the bathroom was a large jet tub and a large shower. Very well done and classy. The room came with a nice flat screen TV and free view stations. One entire wall of my room was a giant window overlooking Manchester, which was great! Now to the lesser parts of this place. There is a large lounge to the right of check-in. It has many tables, seats, a flat panel TV and a full bar. There always seemed to be two or three people working at the bar, which was rarely super busy. If you went up to the bar for a pint, they would tell you to go sit down and they'll come get your order and bring it to you. I sat down for 10 minutes waiting, eyeballing these guys who were standing around doing nothing. This happened multiple times while I was here. Suck. With my comped breakfast waiting for me, I headed down to the restaurant. I was seated as far in the back as humanly possible, which the rest of the restaurant wasn't very full at all. It was buffet style, with an omelet/egg bar. Took me 15 minutes to get a cheese and ham omelet. Really? Were they raising the chicken and waiting for it to drop the eggs right there? When I finally get my omelet, I head back to my table only to find that they have sat someone else there already. WTF!?!?!1one! The food was good, so that was nice, once I had a table to eat it on. There was also some mysterious shortage of glasses, bowls and plates. You'd think they'd have that figured out. All in all, the hotel is very nice and modern. I enjoyed my stay there and may or may not stay there again when I am back in town.

We stayed here recently for a long weekend, paying £350 for a double room without breakfast. We asked for a quiet room so were put on the 12th floor at the end of the corridor. Anyway, Motel One is a chain of German budget hotels, known for their relatively small, minimalist bedrooms. The one at Piccadilly is very close to the railway station (about 2 minutes from the Fairfield St exit, by the Metrolink station) , and well placed for those visiting the nearby Gay Village. The hotel itself is an a modern high-rise building, and has over 300 bedrooms. The foyer/reception area on the ground floor has two entrances (on Whitworth St and London Rd). The foyer is very grand in a modern way, and includes the bar area and seating as well as the reception. It is also when breakfast is served in the morning. Decoration is provided in part by three vapour-effect log fires and a log fire running continuously on a TV screen, plus a selection of wall-mounted guitars. There's a lot to comment on, so best set out as the pluses and minuses: Plusses: * Location perfect for Piccadilly Railway Station, trams and taxis, and also the Gay Village, and close enough to the shopping and nightlife areas * Check-in was straightforward and the reception staff were friendly and efficient * The room was spotlessly clean * The bathroom, though compact, had a decent, reasonable if not "power shower" and nice fluffy towels * Comfy queen size beds with nice bed linen * Very good free Wifi * Room service was good Neutral: * The rooms are on the small side; no wardrobe (only wall hanging rails), one tiny desk - but that is a feature of this chain (so good for a weekend, not for long stays or those with lots of luggage). * The room design has clever space saving touches, like the kettle and tea/coffee being in a small wall cupboard * The rooms have only cardboard cups - no glasses or china mugs * The £10.50 breakfast is a buffet, served in the foyer. The cereals, yogurts and fruit salad were quite a walk from the seating area (which is by the main door - get the wrong table and you'll have a draught every time someone walks past). But plenty of choice otherwise and we enjoyed the breakfast. Minuses: * Sound proofing is poor inside and out: from inside you can hear other guests closing their doors (which had a tendency to slam) and conversations in adjacent rooms. * The hotel is right by the tram tracks, and the sound of their horns, and their wheels squealing on the tracks, penetrates even the triple glazing. Light sleepers would be advised to pack ear plugs (trams run 05:45 to 01:00). * There were no instructions except for the heating/cooling (which didn't cool at all, but we opened a window instead). * Privacy: many of the rooms look at/are overlooked across a narrow passage by the offices opposite. Since there is no obscure glazing or net curtains, the only option if you want privacy in working hours is to close the curtains. * The absence of a telephone means if you need anything, or have a problem, you have to go down to reception. * the biggest issue for me was that the lifts (situated between the front door and the reception desk) have no security card system, so basically anybody can walk into the hotel and access all the accommodation floors. (Plus there are no spy-holes in the bedroom doors, so you don't actually know who is in the corridor outside.) On our visit, we saw some very odd people in the corridors - I think they were delivering food etc. But I think it is something that needs to be looked at. So, overall, it suited our purposes, and the friendly staff and cleanliness meant we had no issues - but I was glad I brought ear plugs. With breakfast, I'm not sure over £400 for 3 days is really in a budget class, but it is central, comfortable (if you don't have too much luggage), and clean.
