The tub is a safety hazard, sinks are old, carpets are dingy, sheets are see-through, pillows are questionable... everything hotel nightmares are made out of... yet its one of the better places in town! But it is close to the train station and to UClan, and the staff will do anything to make up for the embarisingly (is that even a word?) conditions of this worn and beat up hotel. Because the staff is quite frankly - too good for the hotel or any luxury hotel - they are downright working class divinity and should all be hugged and commended for their wonderful, wonderful humanity!

I would have found the reception on the first floor unusual, except I'd seen it at a Travelodge only three weeks ago - so now I thinks it's actually sensible. On arrival I checked in via an electronic kiosk - that is unusual, but it was very quick and there was still a staff member on hand should it not work. In fact, it's worth saying that every staff member I talked to here were exceptionally friendly. Room was fine - minimalist, but functionary. Free wifi was painful, but the paid wifi was only a fiver, so an easy choice. Still not a super fast connection, but better than I've had at some hotels. Bathroom was a decent size, and the shower had excellent pressure. If I have to stay overnight again in Preston, then I would want to stay here again. Everything was effortless.

The bed was very comfortable and we really appreciated the high ceilings, beautiful grounds, and enjoyed our walks around the estate. If you're working like we were, note that the internet is indeed fast enough for a developer who runs team meetings to lead all their meetings! I had a spa session with massage and facial and it was excellent! I swam every day and used the sauna facilities. The locker room and pool area was kept very clean and dry. The lady attendant was fastidious in keeping the changing room dry and clean. There was a bit of an incident where one of my favorite vintage pieces I sent off to laundry was not returned to us when they dropped off our clean clothes. I had actually been at the entrance to the hotel when the cleaner dropped it off and I verbally acknowledged to her that I could see my laundry because of my vintage piece and she stated they'd be delivered to my room shortly. Front staff sent back an empty hanger amongst our other clean clothes and had lost it. We found it on the floor amongst boxes behind the reception desk. They returned my item, and apologized personally. Not a big deal and glad it was resolved.

In other words, our first night was not very restful! Sure that the hotel can't do anything about this, however some pro active compensation would have been in order. The downside of this hotel is the aggressive pricing for wedding packages, meaning that there are many wedding parties going on. I counted six in two days, which brings a lot of drunkards to the hotel, which does not help if you're seeking a quite place to relax. Will I ever get back to this hotel, no.

Luxurious spa & fantastic restaurant for an excellent price…read more I was invited to join a friend here for the 'fantastic Friday' deal in June. I hadn't heard of this place before and when my friend described the deal to my on text message it sounded a little too good to be true. £99 for spa use (aqua thermal journey) on the Friday then dinner in the restaurant followed by an overnight stay. Breakfast was also included plus the use of the spa again on the Saturday morning until 11. I wondered if it was a mediocre location - I couldn't have been more wrong! We arrive at 2pm on the Friday on a gloriously sunny day. The hotel and spa are very new and look stunning. The staff are all friendly and very polite and attentive. They offered to carry our bags to our rooms and made every effort to help us. Due to booking quite late we were in a disabled access room on the ground floor but this didn't change anything regarding how lovely it was. Large, light and well furnished with a fridge, drink making facilities, a tv and everything we needed for a great stay. I had such a good nights sleep in the bed. We had treatments (paid for separately to the package) on the Friday. The spa is luxurious and brand new. One of my favourite parts of this experience is that you can wear the robe and slippers they provide all the time (apart from the evening meal) so the whole day and even at breakfast! Heaven. Every part of it is gorgeous and just being there is relaxing. My Swedish back massage was heaven. We then headed into the aqua thermal journey which consists of 7 rooms and experiences throughout the spa. There is also an internal pool and an external hot tub where we sat in the sun. We then relaxed on sun loungers in the Zen garden with gin and tonics. They have waiter service from the bar. The evening meal was sublime. Two courses were included but we opted to have dessert as well at an extra cost. Each part of the meal was perfect. We had goats cheese mousse and crackers as a little amuse bouche which was delicious then I had asparagus, artichoke and radish salad while my friend had the duck egg starter. Both beautifully preserved and the taste was exceptional. Our mains were beef and duck. Again the presentation and flavour was excellent. We had the same dessert, chocolate fondant with cherries. Amazing but I was quite full so couldn't mange the last mouthful. The service was faultless. I cannot recommend this place enough, every element is wonderful and I felt completely renewed after my visit here.

I saw billboards for this new luxury spa hotel in Lancashire whilst driving to our Manchester Markets every day, so looked it up on't tinternet. Turns out it's not too far away and reasonably priced. So I rang up to book two rooms on the Spa Break Package that includes dinner, bed, breakfast and use of the 'Aqua Thermal Journey'. Priced at £110 per person, this seemed like a good buy. At the time of booking I requested a treatments menu for the spa to be posted out to me so my folks could pick what luxuries they would like to indulge in during our stay. Unfortunately I never received this menu so I printed one out myself. When we had decided on our treatments I rang up again to book them only to be told there was no availability for any treatment during that weekend! I think not. So I emailed them and after a few concerned phone calls all our treatments were booked in. The hotel... The hotel itself is situated at the far end of a holiday home park, which I was not expecting! This however, did not affect the hotel one bit. It is amazing. Brand spanking new, great spacious rooms, comfy beds, good bathrooms, Molton & Brown toiletries to use (or bring home), the staff couldn't have been more helpful (with the exception of one woman I spoke to on the phone) and the service was overall top notch. The food... We had dinner and breakfast included in our package and I must say I am super glad. The food was like nothing I have ever experienced. I have never been one for fancy food where you get a little bit nicely arranged on a plate that costs a bomb, but this may have opened my eyes a little wider. The food was beautifully designed on great plates (or slates) but also there was enough on the plate to fill you up. They obviously have a very well trained chef. During our evening meal we were presented with canapés which were unexpected but brill. We enjoyed three courses, all of exceptional quality. Breakfast is the same story. Great selection of continental foods and also a choice of hot foods all beautifully presented. Afternoon Tea was our last treat whilst at this hotel, priced at £12.50 a head it was the perfect ending to our weekend getaway. The spa... WOW. 1st class. That is all. Visit it (and don't forget to use the outdoor hot tub!). The only concern I have to mention is to check your bill upon check out. All of our treatments were put on the bill twice, and the room rate was wrong. Good job I checked!

Waited as we were told the electricity would be back on at half past 7 latest (bearing in mind this was about half past 4 we got there. Had to speak to manager and explained that it wasn't really okay and surely the least that she should be doing is offer us a complimentary drink while we couldn't use our rooms to which she eventually agreed after a debate. Went through to bar sat in total darkness had to request a candle (no one offered one) waited and checked with manager a few times to be still told repeatedly that it would be back on by half past 7 latest so ordered another drink and sat in bar as it was pointless going to room but as time went on started to feel like nothing was happening and they were still cooking with no extractor fan so the whole place was smokey so went to room and went for a little walk then came back and went to request a refund as the situation was not acceptable. Explained how I had already paid for an uber there and was going to have to then pay for a taxi back as didn't have any power in my phone so had to request a taxi be phoned which was another huge debate ( at this time the chef had to come out to tell the manager he couldnt keep cooking bevause it was breaching health and saftey regulations). During this process the manager started to cry in front of all the other customers which then caused a debate between myself and another couple who had just turned up. This then escalated to a point that I had a pint thrown in my face. I find it highly unprofessional how the situation was dealt with and the fact that the manager created more of an escalation by involving other customers who had just arrived. Tried ringing multiple times to no avail even though the power is back on. After I eventually managed to get a taxi out of the hellhole and I then was so flustered and worked up that I left my wallet in the taxi and I can't get in touch with the cab company because I don't even know which company the staff rang. This is beyond a joke I have emailed and called with absolutely no response the place is an absolute joke

It's a must for me on Sundays in summer. Easily found just off the A6, this complex of thatched hamlets making up the pub, restaurant and hotel rooms is remarkably peaceful and a real retreat to bygone times. I often find myself sampling the wine list during the afternoon, succumbing to the menu at dinnertime, slipping into a comfy chair in the bar and then booking a room for the night! Residents can also make the most of the 'nightclub' a bit of a locals night, but great fun in a rural way. The restaurant and pub menu is part of the 'Taste Lancashire' acceditation scheme, which guarentees local produce wherever possible, as well as high standards of service and hygiene. TIP - Make sure you book a room with a whirlpool bath - just don't have a blonde moment like me and go overboard on the complimentary bubble bath - not fun to clean up! Another tip is to check out when they hold their annual oyster festival - usually in early September.

Back then it had a bar…read morebilliards table and the whole concept of pub food, with the exception of a cellophane wrapped ham sandwich or a pickled egg, had yet to be invented, certainly around this area anyway :-) All these years on though the Kenlis is still very much the same as it was back then. The bar billiards table has long since gone, replaced by a pool table, and the pub now serves food, but it still retains a quirky uniqueness as a result of being privately owned and run. There is a pile of board games in the corner of one room and newspapers and magazines are available to browse, novelty teapots adorn the walls and you can buy chocolate from behind the bar or jelly beans and sweets from a vending machine. There is a children's play area outside and it is also a hotel with a few rooms at reasonable rates. The food is inexpensive, we didn't dine but the menu included standard pub fare; steak pie, roast dinners, burgers, steak etc. A couple of cask beers were on including one from the local Bowland Brewery which was very pleasant. It is a big imposing building seemingly in the middle of nowhere, in fact it was kind of well known for being difficult to find in the days before satellite navigation :-) It is also close to the canal and there is a visitor mooring for a couple of boats by the bridge ( Bridge 54) or alternatively it is possible to moor on the towpath although it can be a little overgrown at times.

The fish cake was so fishy not just full on potato and the chips were cooked to perfection. House wine was drinkable too! Bedrooms comfortable but there was a sewery smell from the bathroom which was slightly off putting. The games room was very old school and traditional, dark oak and some gentrified games but also a tv and a darts boas. It was £70 a room in a Saturday night - good value if you're not up for £125 for the Marriott one mile down the road!

The main bar area was quiet for a monday night, but there was a pianist in the corner and the atmosphere was really cosy, not to mention a good range of real ales that the barman informed me were all local. The room we stayed in was clean and tidy and the staff were all excellent, couldn't have asked for more.
