I really wanted to like this restaurant, but unfortunately they fell short of my expectations on numerous levels. I ordered 6 escargots which were okay - no shells - was very typical of what I would find in US which surprised me (I was still remembering how I got blown away by escargot on this trip at Chamonix).
I ordered the Buddha Bowl for my entree, because honestly this Californian missed some Asian fusion food after indulging in French, Swiss, and Italian cuisine. The ingredients were fresh (although the ahi didn't have the best color - maybe it was old) so I dug in and found that rice was straight out of the fridge. When I asked about this, my waiter took it back so that I can order something else (good move). I don't know if it was the cook, but this guy came out to justify how he eats rice cold because this is how he takes his food to-go. For 22 euros, I didn't order something that was leftover to take with me. You serve cold, leftover rice to people you don't like - sorry, I happen to be full Asian and born and lived in Korea until 8. Then he told me it was Hawaiian when I told him I'm Californian where I know these bowls probably were created and took to trend. I also told him that I go to Hawaii every year, and I've never had bowls with hard, cold rice. I think it's quite insulting that he'd serve me this. But this is how they do it at this restaurant - literally first in my entire life (not even at home when I have rice leftover I'd eat it cold). This isn't French as he explained - I think it's just his way.
Anyhow, I ordered a replacement meal which was the grilled sea bream w/ green curry. I was expecting from a restaurant called Tibetan Cafe real curry. Instead, it was a green foam with hardly any curry taste but TONS of ginger and cumin spices. Mangos were swimming in it, and I love mangoes. I didn't eat the mangos. The fish was well grilled so I was happy with it... just not the part that touched the green foam.
Again, I wanted to like this restaurant - but I think it's a bit insulting to call it Tibetan or even remotely Asian. I think keeping the menu true to what it states - fish in green curry - and making it taste great would have been wonderful. My fish cost 26 euros - and I'm not sure if it was worth it if I didn't eat the weird sauce. I am a super taster so I taste everything. read more
