I fell in love with their offering of stones a few years ago at the Gem and Mineral Guild and Celebration Fairs. You'll always know Hands of Spriit's booth by the beautiful assortment of high-quality stones and jewelry, always arranged by color, and their extremely knowledgable, friendly, and helpful staff. (Ack, I'm beginning to sound more like a copy writer than a rock hound, aren't I?) I've waited for a looonnngg time to visit the Hands of Spirit gallery outside of Boulder. Living in Centennial, it's not often that I'm up that way, but when I caught news of their Open House via their Facebook page and realized that I had the time to make the drive, I immediately made plans with a close friend (and frequent client of HoS) to attend. The gallery is only a short drive into the foothills and isn't difficult to find. Be prepared to walk uphill if you can't find parking in the upper lot, and keep in mind that you'll have to remove your shoes before you enter the store. I'm not sure if it's routine, but we were also asked to hand over our handbags (which I can certainly understand.) The staff recognized my friend and welcomed me as warmly as she. They showed us where the trays were to carry our selections, and let us roam the gallery. Within 30 minutes or so, I'd amassed over $150 in stones. (Yes, I told you I'm a rock hound.) In my experience frequenting most of the metaphysical, stone-selling shops in the Denver area, Hands of Spirit sells the most unique, high quality pieces I've found. They're also a bit more expensive, but I'm happy to pay the price for quality items. Whether you are a collector, work with the energies of the stones, or both, Hands of Spirit gallery can not be missed in your search. The staff's knowledge of the properties of each stone is immense, and they are all such wonderful people. You won't be disappointed, I promise, but make sure to check their web site for hours because they are not open daily.

This is a new local artist shop and studio space. It seemed less local and unique than I had hoped…read more It is nothing like the finest local arts shop we lost during the pandemic. It seemed very commercial to me rather than unique art and jewelry pieces. The staff was friendly and the shop was busy on its grand opening evening. There was a sameness to many of the personal wear pieces, similar to styles common here in the 70s and 80s and appealing to the heavy "silver and turquoise" themes . If you are interested in that again, you might enjoy some of the pieces which I felt were fairly pricey. And very shiny to me as I had collected mostly authentic Navajo and other indigenous pieces in that era which had a more matte silver finish. There was wall art of various styles from modernist, "western" and also various techniques and subjects. There were clothing pieces and general room decor and a few sculptures too. There is a back area which is clearly studio work space and not in use today but for use as food prep. As we were heading elsewhere for a meal anyway we did not stay to try as it was not part of their mission anyway. The other customers who were looking through the merchandise were generally not my demographic so maybe they will provide higher rated reviews. There's clearly a need for this shop as so many (mostly middle aged women) showed up and were browsing the collections. I wish the ownership well as we need more than CU student shops or mountaineering shops on Pearl.

We went to a festival of the celebration of the end of summer, First Friday ArtWalks. I had seen a post in the Boulder paper announcing the event. One of the artists featured was a person we have known for over 25 years and seen his work in other settings, in Boulder. It was really nice to see the new work he has done recently, a shift in color palette and location settings but still recognizable by his style. And still depictions of the Southwest part of the country. The gallery had other artists also and craft and pieces of art for sale. A nice collection of styles. Niwot has always been known for its antique stores, even since we arrived in Boulder in the 70s. We did not furnish from these stores but some friends did. Now, many of the historic shops sell the art of the local community that has sprung up, in a rural setting, just minutes from Boulder. If you take the sign at the turn off from the Diagonal Highway (119) just east of the light at Niwot Rd, you will find yourself on the 2nd Ave historic section of town. It was also a treat that the festival evening had a large local band playing outside near the galleries on this block. A large crowd for the end of summer festivities, and awards to the artist favorites of the summer long shows. Many people seemed to all know each other. Small town, still in the heart of Boulder County.
