The kind of art also stands out in an unique way: abstract and different styles each time. Unfortunately, I never dared to enter the gallery and yet I'm hoping to introduce this kind of art to fellow residents. It's very different than the many murals seen throughout the TL. It also adds a different cultural space unlike the Luggage Storage which has been very accessible to me and and always visited by local and many others. I realize that both art spaces have different backgrounds, which on the one hands I love because it exposes us to art that I more see near Union Square or Geary Street and that's great to have as a source in this neighborhood. But unfortunately, I started of on the wrong foot with them and felt even less welcome, in which I spoke up about on Yelp. This Gallery since then has apologized profusely and expressed their various contribution or inclusion of some of the neighborhood organizations. I'm not sure, but at this point I have not seen any activity at the gallery that appeared really inclusive for local residents to attend openings or perhaps times when we can look around. There is always a huge contrast between the visitors of the gallery and how some of us, myself included present ourselves. I would love to visit the gallery to view the different artists' works as it is very inspiring to me as and artist who does has done abstract series. We'll see

Last night I attended "Various", the Push Studio opening reception, at the invitation of an old…read morefriend. It was a pretty cool event, with works by six different local artists, including my new friend Erik Otto and the SF fixture Ursula Xante Young. More on that in just a moment. The gallery itself is on an unassuming block of Folsom. You enter through a long hardwood-floored hallway into the main gallery space, which is essentially one large room, though I think it's set up to be divided in half into two rooms if necessary. The ceiling is super tall which gives the place an airy ambiance; it probably feels larger than it actually is, a feeling enhanced by the whitewashed walls and light hardwood floors. This particular show featured a lot of different styles - there were paintings and prints both very large and very small, as well as some mixed media, and I thought they all presented well in the space. Erik had even done some painting on the wall around his pieces, which is a level of involvement (on the part of the space) that I always appreciate in these sorts of things - which is to say that this gallery struck me as being very friendly towards its art. As for the particular artists, I actually really liked everyone that was showing. Erik's work was some of the more abstract but his mixed media stuff really anchored it well, both philosophically and physically, in the space. Tommy Noshitsky's photographic prints were fucking awesome and I would love to own a few; they embody a certain California/San Francisco aesthetic that I recognize all the more, not being a native son. Ursula Xante Young's paintings are well known for a reason and were a welcome addition. Krescent Carasso's massive paintings are executed with a level of technical skill I found absolutely engrossing. Downtimer's stuff is all done in a certain street art aesthetic and I have a sneaking suspicion he and I have similarly wired brains, since the patterns he produces in his work exhibit a striking similarity to my high school notebook doodles. And as it turns out, Derrick Boyd made probably my favorite piece at the show, a massive, beautiful painting of a peacock that I desperately want to own. That's worth going to see on its own. In all, I really enjoyed the space and the show, I liked getting to meet several of the artists and the woman running the gallery, and I would happily return to see future installations. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get back to work so some day I can have enough money to buy art with.

There is some rather interesting art here. I've never been inside, but i always seem to stay at a…read morehotel that requires me to pass by this particular store front. On each visit, I wind up peering through the glass windows, sometimes taking pictures of their exhibits. This last time, there was the most interesting 3-d picture that moved when you walked by. I didn't notice its workings at first, but once I did, I kept walking back in front of the gallery every time we had the opportunity to pass buy. I'd probably buy the darn thing if I could afford it!

Tucked away down a little street right off of Mission. Very cool little gallery that had an…read moreinteresting exhibit of street art from Iran by artists Icy and SOT. Check out the mural on the side of the building with the tree by famous graffiti artist Banksy, and also the skeleton and rainbow heart added by Icy and SOT. This is a relatively new venue that has limited hours, so call first to make sure that they are open.

The Roll Up Gallery is part of The Public Works building which is why the address is the same…read more I came here during Noise Pop 2013 for a gallery showing called East Middle West: the Stencil Street Art of Icy and Sot 'Underground From Iran'. It was a really fabulous showing! Though the gallery is small, and long and narrow there is plenty of space to display the art. The back of the gallery had a door leading into another space of Public Works where they had a table set up selling beer. The gallery is only open by appointment only, for events, and when Public Works is open so you can't just go anytime. Roll Up Gallery is big on supporting local SF artists which is great since gallery space is so costly in SF. Note: the side of the building of The Roll Up Gallery/Public Works features various street art, one of them being a tree done by Banksy and another a heart with a skull recently done by the visiting Iranian street artists.

Starting in December, I started seeing her perform her artistic skills as she painted the frontage for this space. After several passes over the next several weeks, I enjoyed her vision come to life, through rainy wet days and cold dreary mornings. Check out her work here and enjoy the thoughtfulness in highlighting Chinese New Year in Chinatown San Francisco. With a mainstream flood of artworks throughout the City in January (hearts for SF General Hospital and dragons for Chinese New Year), Ms. Valerie Liu shines. Her subjects include custard egg tarts, a fortune cookie, a gourd, tea drink cup and straw, pink cake box, bamboo plant, and, of course, the sitting cat with one paw up in a waving position. I've been here a couple of times for their craft and artisan food fairs, and it's a really cool…read morespace! The building was a printing press back in the day, so it's a bit of a maze but that's part of the charm. I've discovered some amazing local businesses. I recently went to their February artisan food fairs, and bought some delicious food products. They had a variety of food vendors: hot sauces, honey, dips, cookies, teas, and more. As for the craft fairs, respect jewelry, candles, cutting boards, and even a few food vendors. That's where I discovered Apisol, a woman-owned company based in the Peninsula that makes delicious sparkling honey beverages. Don't miss the vintage store on the first floor, which has really unique vintage products like postcards, buttons, posters, and more. There are so many fairs in the city, but the vendors here are ones that I haven't seen anywhere else. So check out their insta or their website for dates to their upcoming fairs.

I never heard or been in this location before and I am sure most of you never heard of this place either unless you search for history of the William Randolph Hearst printing press building so many years ago. The building was built in 1926 as a printing plant for the San Francisco Examiner. It is a nice mixed use building like a nice cozy maze to explore the nice layout and architecture of the old print shop. So upstairs about 2 floors and vendors are scattered so it's like a hunt for them, almost like a needle in haystack. Lol Well it's not that hard as you won't miss anyone. Too floor that where you will satisfy your sweet tooth . Yummy. The vendors that were there were a nice mix from tea, cheese, spices, India coffee , Turkish spreads, ice cream, giant cookies, healthy drinks, spreads, and I am sure you will find something you will enjoy. I don't normally buy stuff, but the honey , red beet, 2004 sweet land Bingdao $95 brick tea that is aged 21 years that can make 175 tea servings for $95, Il Fiorello basalmic vinegar was thick and smooth great texture and syrupy taste very captivating and Taste of Levant tahini and their chocolate jar of molasses was excellent and I had to buy them. Yummy in my tummy! Not sure if same vendors will be there again, so catch them the at your farmers market, festivals or next Eats event!
