I have had a handful of savory crepes in my life, but the only one I really loved was the complète provençale at Ti Jos. Granted, I haven't been to many Parisian creperies, but I can still judge what tastes good.
This was a cute little place, small, cheerful, and very casual. It seemed to be run by a couple of women who could've been mother and daughter, both of whom seemed sweet. Service was efficient and friendly.
My mother and I had had a big lunch so we split two crepes for dinner. The first was that wonderful complète provençale. This was a beautiful buckwheat crepe filled with egg, ham, cheese, and tomato. The crepe was really great, crispy and breakable towards the edges but substantial in the middle. I love the nutty brown flavor of buckwheat, and it worked well with the savory fillings. The cheese was plentiful and beautifully melted, and I loved the salt of the ham and the juicy acidity of the tomato.
For dessert we ordered a crepe with banana, chocolate, and chantilly cream. This was more two-dimensional than the savory crepe, but it was still delicious. The crepe had nice texture, and it's hard to say no to banana and chocolate.
Our meal cost €16 total and while that isn't cheap for crepes, it was plenty cheap for a light dinner for two. Also worth noting is that Ti Jos operates in August, unlike some of its competition. I've only tried two Paris creperies and I would say Ti Jos wins on savory and Creperie Josselin on sweet. I am, however, two for two on excellent creperies and have an itch to try others. Time will tell if I'll end up back here, but I would be happy to return, and would recommend it to anyone else in town. read more
