As someone who regularly enjoys tea service with friends, I immediately made an 11:00 a.m. reservation, even though the only available seating was at the bar. That didn't matter to me, I was simply looking forward to the experience. The tea house sent multiple confirmation texts, including a reminder to arrive 15 minutes early, which I happily did. I dressed for the occasion, arrived on time, and was greeted at the door before being shown to my seat at the bar. I let the hostess know that the second guest would not be joining me, she acknowledged and removed the additional menu, then I waited. And waited. And waited. For approximately 15 minutes, I sat without a single acknowledgment from anyone on staff. No one welcomed me, explained the tea service, or even said, "We'll be with you shortly." At one point, a waitress silently filled my water glass, but there was still no interaction beyond bonjour. As the minutes passed, I couldn't help but notice that I was the only Black woman in the tea room. I sincerely hope that had nothing to do with the lack of service. I cannot say that it did. But when you're left sitting unnoticed while eagerly anticipating an experience you specifically planned your morning around, it's difficult not to wonder. Rather than cause a scene or ask for attention that should have been offered naturally, I quietly stood up, picked up my purse, walked out, and returned to my hotel disappointed. About 15 minutes after I returned to my hotel, I received a phone call from the owner asking why I had left. I explained exactly what had happened. She responded, "That's what we thought." She apologized and graciously offered to provide complimentary afternoon tea service if I would return. I respectfully declined. While I appreciated the apology and the offer, some moments simply cannot be undone. You don't get a second opportunity to make a first impression, and you don't get a second chance to make me feel welcomed after I've already been made to feel invisible. I arrived excited for what I hoped would be a memorable experience, and beautiful ending to my final day in Montreal. Instead, I left Paparmane feeling embarrassed, overlooked, and less than. This review isn't about receiving free tea or compensation. It's about hospitality. Every guest deserves to be acknowledged, welcomed, and treated with dignity from the moment they take their seat. Montréal has been an incredible city, filled with warm people, memorable food, and wonderful experiences. Sadly, this was the one exception. I sincerely hope Paparmane reflects on the importance of making every guest feel seen because first impressions matter, and mine left me feeling invisible.

It was such a treat to walk into the inviting dimly-lit rustic barn-style tea room which was buzzing with people. Inside there is plenty of seating; my favourite being the cozy and peaceful large fireplace area. There are plenty of drinks and treats to choose from, from a variety of loose leaf teas to coffees and gourmet hot chocolate (which seemed the most popular). The barista was super friendly and let me whiff a few of the chai teas - they definitely have a great selection. I had a spicy chai which hit the spot and warmed me up after hiking in the cold. All their pastries come from Pains & Saveurs (which is THE best on the South Shore) and they even have a tempting selection of biscotti and macarons. Although there are a few high-end options walking distance from my hotel, it is the tea parlors like Le Parloir that gives me a more authentic experience. Such a great value in a cute tea parlor where each person gets their own tower and tea choice. Tea sandwiches, scones, sweets including a macaron, the offerings are always a deciding factor and they definitely had me at foie gras canapé and duck confit crostini. Everything was made downstairs and brought right upstairs for us to enjoy and those little touches like an hour-glass to remind you when your tea is fully steeped is what makes this one of my favorite tea experiences of all time.

The highlight for me is the tasting table. There's six tables you can walk in and sit at, and the menu has one item per type of tea (white, green, etc). The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and patient with my many questions. As a tea shop they have a massive selection of teas in an easily understood menu, and many quite nice teaware pieces that are reasonably priced and designed specifically by/for Camellia Sinensis. I got an almond croissant which wasn't really photo worthy and found it to be dry even though it had a nice moist almond paste inside. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but it was an okay option on our way out to see the Montmorency falls.
