I go to the lake close to the half way mark and can hear the activity further up to the camp. I find it nice and reassuring. It's nice to see and hear the lake being used by so many different people and in so many different ways. I had asked for a tour of the retreat awhile back and was blessed with a wonderful tour and explanation of how the retreat works. The retreat grounds are open to groups of people with a reservation. Like I said above all meals are prepared for the campers on the grounds. There are nice big clean and spacious community buildings. One of these has a large fireplace in it. Also there is a beautiful handmade quilt hanging in that room. There's an outside area with tables seats cement on the ground and an overhead that is pretty permanent for eating outside or gathering for other reasons. The campers have cabins to stay in. I didn't get to see the cabins so I cannot say much about them. For the most part I was able to get around the tour using my power chair. The grounds is mostly rocky so getting around in my chair can pose a problem. I enjoy hearing the campers sing by the lake. What a treat!!

We have seen the upgrade to 2 automated coffee machines. The coffee still remains up to high standards. The entire facility is clean and well kept. The rooms are always clean. Any minor repairs needed are always handled within an hour of reporting them. Our personal preferences are honored and remembered. We have met newly trained staff and veteran employees. They are all well trained and pleasant. The ambience is always welcoming; be it holiday related or just because. We have had the pleasure to see the staff enjoying pizza night together and observe how they treat each other. We have been with clientele who are sports teams and those who are law enforcement as well as travelers or just visiting family. The staff always greets us coming in and going out the door. We will truly miss this hotel and staff.

I liked that there were rooms with 2 queens and a sofa bed so my kids didn't have to share a bed with each other. Its next to the highway but even with a room on the highway side, we couldn't hear the noise (unlike other Holiday Inns we've been at). The only negatives were the smaller parking lot (which wasn't much to complain about) and our blackout shade was broken so we woke up at sunrise.

I had the unfortunate experience of losing my father February 19th of this year. I knew that I…read morewanted to do something special after his service to celebrate his life. I wanted to allow our friends and family time to talk about the meaningful times that we were lucky enough to spend with a man that meant so much to so many. Since I live in Portland, I knew it would be challenging to find a space online. I grew up in Olympia, and it has changed a lot. I found somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 possibilities. When I stumbled across the website for the Abigail Stuart House, it just felt right. I called Carolyn, who rents the house and found out that it was available for the 26th when I needed it. We scheduled a tour for the Friday prior. Perfect. The rental included tables, chairs, a very roomy full kitchen with all kinds of serving trays and cooking utensils, an oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Most places didn't have such a full set up. For the most part things have to be rented separately. The only thing we needed to provide were tablecloths. Easy. Since it's an historic property it has a lot of charm. High ceilings, hardwood floors, a foyer with space to hang coats, a parlor with comfortable sofas and cushy chairs. The parlor also has a baby grand piano, and gas fireplace. There is a bathroom on the main floor, as well as a men's and women's restroom upstairs. There is room to accommodate up to 150 in the main room. Plenty of space for everyone. Carolyn gave me the tour, and I paid on the spot. They only charge $400 all inclusive for the full day and night, with a $250 refundable deposit. You don't even have to clean. We only needed to put away the tables and chairs, and place anything from the kitchen that we used in the dishwasher before we left. It wasn't rented Saturday, so she was kind enough offer it to me for an additional $100 so that I could set up beforehand. I was so grateful to have the opportunity to do so. I don't think you can find such an affordable deal anywhere! They're incredibly easy to work with. It's centrally located downtown, and has a parking lot to accommodate 22 cars. There is also ample street parking. It would be ideal for wedding receptions, reunions, or about anything else you might need. I was able to pick up my full deposit the following Tuesday morning. I can't recommend them highly enough. Take a look at their website, and see for yourself. The money from the rental also benefits many local charities, as an added bonus.

Ok, it is not the fanciest place in Olympia, and it does need some upgrading--that said, I still…read moregive it five stars. Every single other venue in the area charges by the hour, or offers packages that give you six hours start to finish. We opted for the full package (when we paid it was $2500). No nickle and diming, no having to clean up after your own wedding, linens, tables, tents, everything included. We had all day on our wedding day (August 15, 2015), and because it was open, were given access all day the Friday before. Jamie and his wife were quick to give us great answers and do anything they could to help beforehand. Jamie worked really hard before, during, and at the end to make sure it went smoothly. At one point, when I was exhausted and stressed (my chef disappeared and I--with the help of family I hated asking to help--had to cook all the food), he sat down next to me and calmed me completely. This is the thing about this venue--they love what they do for a living, and haven't forgotten how important your wedding is to you. As I looked at all the leftover food at the end I felt bad, and found out it was being donated to a nearby group home--just an example of how positive you'll feel about everything here. I was thrilled today, one month after the event, to find that 100% of my deposit had been refunded. I'm sure you all know how many businesses of all types try to find a way to eat that up. Not here. If you want super posh, maybe this isn't your venue. If you are someone who is not spending 30K or more on a wedding like that one you've seen on TV, this place is fantastic. Loads of lovely outdoor space with multiple tents available, we had plenty of room for tables, a band and dancing inside as well. You will never find a venue owned by nicer, more sincerely helpful folks, I assure you.
