I go to the lake close to the half way mark and can hear the activity further up to the camp. I find it nice and reassuring. It's nice to see and hear the lake being used by so many different people and in so many different ways. I had asked for a tour of the retreat awhile back and was blessed with a wonderful tour and explanation of how the retreat works. The retreat grounds are open to groups of people with a reservation. Like I said above all meals are prepared for the campers on the grounds. There are nice big clean and spacious community buildings. One of these has a large fireplace in it. Also there is a beautiful handmade quilt hanging in that room. There's an outside area with tables seats cement on the ground and an overhead that is pretty permanent for eating outside or gathering for other reasons. The campers have cabins to stay in. I didn't get to see the cabins so I cannot say much about them. For the most part I was able to get around the tour using my power chair. The grounds is mostly rocky so getting around in my chair can pose a problem. I enjoy hearing the campers sing by the lake. What a treat!!

So the annual Freaker's Ball was held here last night…read more The ball is open to community members and their guests. Apparently they have held this event for 18 years. The venue feels like one of those old community houses from back in the 1800's. It felt like a giant barn party. It has some standard facilities, a large kitchen, a nice sound stage, lots of tables, and a decent restrooms. Freaker's Ball was definitely a great event.

There is NO parking, you can park behind the building or along the drive path of the cemetery, make sure when you get out of your car you don't step on someone headstone, ewhhhh. Whoever does their set-up has zero skills with people movement. The room where the ceremony was held, they put so many chairs in there you couldn't get to your seat because they lined the back wall with chairs, completely unnecessary because they could have just pushed all the chairs a little closer to where the wedding party was standing. The next room over indicated it would hold 290 people but yet they had to set up the buffet in the hallway right across from the restrooms. They had put so many banquet tables in the room, you couldn't pull your chair out to sit down and no one could walk down the aisle to get to their seat without bumping people. It was cramped, there was ZERO staff to help with logistics of the day, not even to help move chairs, oh because they had to take the chairs from the ceremony area and put them in the dining room. The doorway into the dining room was a typical residential size door, they didn't have 2 doors that opened up wide into the space. Poorly planned building, none existent staff and creepy location.

Contrary to what the prior reviewer posted, there was plenty of room in front for parking, the venue was nicely set up, and all excess furniture was stored away in closets. Neil and Jody (The owners) are AMAZING! These guys are not just here to take your money and leave you to figure out the rest, they take you the full way, doting on you as if you're the only one who requires their attention, and trust me, you're not. This place as well as the Aerie Ballroom is SO popular because they have such amazing prices, courteous service, and a genuine love for what they do. I can't wait to have my nuptials here and I suspect amazing service that day - just as it has been all along!
