    Horse of My Dreams

Finding and buying the right horse can be a risky and intimidating process, with so many ways to go…read moreabout it! Networking locally might work, but I found that to be a long and uncertain journey. In-person horse auctions are an option, but you don't get much time to properly consider and evaluate such a big purchase. Online auctions offer variety, but seem very risky to me, as pictures, videos and the seller's description aren't enough to go on and may not provide an accurate picture. A friend told me that you may find a bargain at an auction but end up paying a lot more to your veterinarian. All these approaches come with risks and uncertainty that can lead to stress and some gnarly vet bills. "Horse of My Dreams" takes a different approach - they apparently continuously actively search out and select only the best horses and perform background checks on each horse's pedigree to make sure there are no hereditary health issues. They also have their own vet checks done with blood tests, inoculations, and x-rays, which reduces buyer risk and gave me confidence. Then they make sure each horse is trained and tested to make sure they have a great personality and temperament, are intelligent and trainable, and "bomb proof" (a horse that remains calm, steady and unflappable, even in situations (distractions, loud noises, sudden movements, unfamiliar objects) that would unsettle other horses). "Bomb proof" horses are the best horses for families (especially with children), beginners (actually any riding level), trail riding or riding in unpredictable environments and situations. Alisha, who guided me through the process, was a joy to work with. She's a welcoming, friendly, happy, positive-energy person. She's also a real professional and asked the right questions to understand our family's needs, helping to refine and understand our requirements to match us with our ideal horse. She was always very patient and understanding and knows her buyers are making a big decision! She was super responsive and always available by phone, text, or email - and her experience and knowledge were clear to see. Alisha was completely transparent and forthcoming, providing all the records and information I needed to be comfortable with my decision, all backed up by their guarantee. Thanks to Alisha's guidance, I ended up with a beautiful 6-year-old gray Quarter Horse gelding in excellent physical shape - strong, fit, and well-balanced with an athletic build - perfect for both trail and arena work. He's very smart, has a great personality and is a great partner. Of course, horses don't read websites or Yelp reviews - they're going to be horses! You'll still need to spend the time to bond, take lessons as appropriate, and become effective partners. But by getting my horse from HOMD, I believe I've avoided many of the risks and pitfalls that can occur on that journey.

I purchased my pony, Peppy, and she has been one of the greatest blessings to our family ever since, the final piece of the puzzle. Peppy is everything you hope for in a pony -- kind, gentle, safe, and incredibly friendly. From the very beginning, Alisha matched us with the perfect fit. Peppy has been dependable and trustworthy not just for me, but for my entire family. Even the younger kids are completely safe around her, which speaks volumes about her temperament and training. It's rare to find a pony with such a steady mind and loving personality, and I'm so grateful that Alisha helped bring her into our lives. If you're looking for a safe, family-friendly horse or pony, I would absolutely recommend Horse of My Dreams. Peppy has been truly priceless to us.

Mookie, the name my daughter gave him after one her favorite baseball players, Mookie Betts (LA Dodgers), is a (fur)ball of energy, unlike the typical French Bulldog you might read about online. In fact, while the Mookster does possess traits identified in online articles, he is NOT your typical Frenchie! Or maybe a better explanation is he does NOT always act like the typical Frenchie. This is a GOOD thing, in my opinion. Mookie is much more energetic and playful than what those describe about the "lazy" French Bulldog. I will say that Mook loves his morning and evening walks...hell he loves to get outdoors at anytime and for any length. One trait he does share, of course, is his bulldog snout and struggle to breathe, especially when overheated and exhausted...a potentially lethal combination on a hot day. So be careful with this breed during the summer time, no matter what!. Mookie is as chill as they come. On the return flight home to San Diego from Hot Springs, Ark, Mookie was 8 weeks old and in his airline carrier under the seat in front of me. He did n't make a sound on the roughly 4 1/2 hour, non-stop flight home! When I picked up his carrier and took him out to assure him all was OK, the folks around me melted and commented they had no idea there was a dog in there as he was so quiet. Back home in San Diego, this dude has acclimated quite nicely! He absolutely loves his walks as mentioned, but he loves them 100 times more when we do them at the local beach. He will run and splash in the water chasing seagulls and any other creature he sees, as long as I'll let him. He was easy to train and he adores people. In fact he gets energized around people...anyone! He is super healthy and is a compact stud strutting around, showing off his stuff! At 1 year and 9 months, he is a specimen of health and (knock on wood) he has had NO vet visits except his regular checkups and shots as a puppy. Lucas knows what he is doing and he certainly understands the breeding of French Bulldogs as Mookie is living proof of excellent breeding selection! We cannot wait to begin studding the Mookster out here very soon! I am pretty sure, he is ready as well!!!!

The breeder, Clint Little, of Happy Bend Kennels doesn't allow you to see the parents or visit his…read morekennel. The breeder always has puppies available that he sells for $2000 + as designer mixes. These are the top red flags of a bad breeder, but let me continue with my personal story: My husband & I were looking for a puppy to fit both of our needs, mine being that it had to be hypoallergenic (already limited there) & that we wanted the puppy to become a service dog (only certain breeds there too). So no going to the shelter to adopt a puppy. My husband is a disabled veteran (who is unable to work) & would greatly benefit from a service dog. We researched a lot of breeds, particularly the Native American Indian Dog. We chose Happy Bend Kennels as he is only an hour away from us. He said he'd give a discount on the account of the puppy being much older, the last one left from her litter, & for my husband being military. This never happened. We notarized a contract saying we would pay $1500, but on the breeder's way to see us he comes up with us having to pay $150 in taxes, & we desperately wanted her, so we ended up paying $1650 for a puppy that was already 15 weeks of age instead of a the normal 8-10 weeks (no discount there either). Unfortunately, 12 days after purchasing the puppy, we received devastating news that my husband was going to go under intense treatment at the VA that might require an eventual surgery & over night stays at the hospital. Knowing he would not be home enough or physically able to give our fur-baby the attention that she needs, & I work 8-10 hours a day, frequently go out of town overnight, so the heartbreaking decision was made to call the breeder. The breeder took full advantage of our unexpected crisis with my husband's health problems, took our $1650 puppy, all her belongings that we had bought her, including a $100 bed, lots of toys, treats, & vitamins & gave us a lowly $200 that doesn't even cover part of her belongings. He promised to return as much of the money as he could, of course, that never happened. Even his full grown 4-5 year old adult dogs that can't produce puppies for him anymore, he sells for $300 +. We are not only heartbroken over our loss of our puppy as we wanted for her to be a part of our family & a lifetime companion, but now we are having to endure the my husband's demanding treatments at the VA. We've had to deal with the fact we just unwilling donated $2000 for someone else to have a puppy & all her stuff (as Clint posted on YouTube that she will be re-homed to Colorado). I didn't realize my husband & I were running a charity, paying for expensive puppies for other people to have. Clint, taking money from a disabled Army veteran & his family while they are going through a difficult time is disguising and dishonorable. Thank you for adding to that difficult time & making it so much worse, Clint. He sells these dogs is just like any breeder, only in it for the money, has absolutely no conscious as he's willing to rip money off a disabled veteran who can not work because of his injuries fighting for our country by deploying to war twice. Being that he has 2-3 litters of puppies at a time, averaging 7-9 puppies each, & selling them for $2000 + (depending on where he is delivering them to), he certainly has the money to reimburse us especially after we only had the puppy for 12 days. He refused to return our phone calls and has ignored my email, pleading for him to reimburse us our rightfully owed money since we no longer have the puppy. When I was finally able to get on the phone with him, I was in tears at the loss of our puppy and (yes even the money). He had no empathy what-so-ever & said he would never sell in Arkansas again after this experience, ironic since that is where his kennel is. He had the nerve to tell me, in between my tears that, I don't need the money as I have a nicer car than him (a 5 year used car with 60k miles that cost $25k.) By the way, he drives a 'puppy express' Delivery Vehicle that is a huge 4x4 Truck with a 14ft trailer to deliver his furry money makers since he doesn't want anyone seeing his kennel. Selling his mixed bred puppies at $2k+ each, the man is not hurting on money. Please beware to all those who are considering purchasing a puppy from this greedy man. He may breed beautiful dogs, but he has an ugly greedy soul.
