One of only a few in Ireland ER's is already proving to be a big hit on the Lisburn Road. Yesterday when I paid a visit it was absolutely jam packed. But the pin striped, attentive staff managed to deal with the hoards of burger lover admirably. The whole restaurant follows the USA diner theme, red tiles, bold brash posters with American slogans and red leather booths. Right down to even the tiniest details this place is perfect - they have mini duke boxes (50's style) where you can pay 20p for your choice of song. Right on to the important bit, the food. The menu is full of tempting delights but I went for the Smokestack burger upon a recommendation. I have to say I was not disappointed! The Burger bun was soft and fluffy, the burger was meaty and the extras combination were sublime. The best part of the burger was definitely the 'secret' sauce - sort of like a vinegary mayo. I'm underselling it with that description. Burgers will set you back £6.45 but they are not small and you certainly won't be hungry after eating them. I loved Eddie Rocket's - the only tiny thing I would mention is that it took a while for us to get our food which made us rush eating it. I will put this down to how busy it was. The place certainly isn't understaffed. Top marks from me - there's so much on the menu to sample that I will have to make a trip back soon!

The guacamole and salsa weren't fresh, instead they seemed quite processed. But it was good food - not great - but filling, tasty and reasonable for the price. Our whole party enjoyed their meals. So today, in Romas, I was ordering my second pint of the day, and I asked the supervisor if I could go to the other side of the bar to get it cheaper and bring it round to this side of the bar (the food side, as there was no room on the other side). He replied that he'd rather I didn't, so I said, ok, we'll do it your way this time, but we can do it my way next time, it's a good compromise. Once he'd served me my pint he said to me that it was my last one. I asked him why, and he said that he just didn't want to serve me any more. I then asked him if I was banned for good, and he refused to answer. After several attempts of trying to get an answer, he said that I wasn't barred for good. I tried to get a reason to why he wouldn't serve me any more drink, and he just replied that he didn't want to. I asked to speak to his manager, and he told me that he was allowing me to drink this pint, with the implication that if I caused trouble he wouldn't. I said that I didn't want the pint but did want to speak with his manager. He took my pint and emptied it. The manager, a short plump middle aged lady, with dark hair, came round from the other bar, and queried if I'd been barred (which I hadn't as I am only visiting newtownards from England to visit my mother who is in a nursing home). I then asked how I could make a complaint, to which she replied that I should write a letter. I asked if they had an email address, to which I was told that they did. I then asked 4 times what the email address was and received no reply. I was then told it was on your website. I feel that my treatment today has been very humiliating, for no good reason what so ever, and I am hoping for a satisfactory apology and retraining of your staff and management as this is well below proffessional standards. Made me feel that I was in the playground again trying to justify myself against a lot of unreasonable bullies. Absolutely disgusting customer service and complaints management.

A thorough review of my Yelp would show a strong love of jazz and New Orleans, and somehow we stumbled on this gilded age bar in the heart of Belfast. Rich red velvet and a strong nod to New Orleans and the jazz age was backed up by a strong cocktail program with nods to New Orleans, NYC, London and Paris. Oh to find a Time Machine and try each class cocktail during the jazz age in each city. My favorite cocktail of all time is the New Orleans classic - Ramos Gin Fizz. Labeled on the menu as a 'one and only', this somewhat finicky and difficult cocktail came out nearly perfect and better than many I've sampled in NOLA. Would love to return for live music and food!
