I came here Sunday evening to bowl with my girlies. We ordered drinks and food at the bar while we waited for every one to arrive because they said once we paid for bowling our time would start. I ordered the chicken bacon flatbread and Tito's with pineapple, this was around 6:20 PM. It's now 7:43 PM and I have YET to get my food. EVERYTHING the other members of our party ordered that came out was ice cold. I am at the bar inquiring about my food and they are saying the kitchen is severely backed up, but when I ordered there were not that many people here. And you can't tell me they are back there hand twirling pizza dough, so not sure what the issue is. I came to the bar to try to ensure that when my flatbread comes it is not ice cold after an almost two hour wait. It FINALLY arrived...and was ice cold. I asked the lady if they could put it back in the oven/microwave what the f**k ever they are using to make it, she agreed and said it would be ready in two minutes .she brought it out about five minutes later and it was ...kind of warm. I was over it at that point and accepted it because I was drinking on an empty stomach. The flatbread was decent but definitely not worth the 2 hour wait. My bestie and I took our sons to Thunderbowl Lanes for a little post-Mother & Son Dance fun. It had been a while since we'd been there, and while the kids had a good time overall, we were shocked by the cost--especially for parents who aren't even bowling. We paid $11 per child for an hour of bowling, plus $8 each for shoe rentals, which we felt was reasonable. But what surprised (and disappointed) us was being told that we had to pay $20 each just to be in the building with our kids--even though we weren't bowling. Our boys are six and five years old, so of course they couldn't bowl alone, and we couldn't just leave them there. It honestly didn't make sense, and it felt like an unnecessary charge. So for just one hour of bowling for two kids, the total came to $67--and that's before even touching the arcade. To be fair, the manager was understanding and did give us two $15 arcade cards, which our sons loved. That gesture was appreciated and helped soften the situation. We did have some issues during the game--balls got stuck, the scoring system glitched, and we had to wait for staff to fix it, which took away from our play time. Unfortunately, the system doesn't pause your session when this happens, so time was lost while waiting, and that felt frustrating given the hourly rate. One highlight: the cosmic bowling ambience! With the glowing lights, music, and fun energy, it's a really exciting environment for kids and definitely adds to the experience. In the end, while the kids had fun, the overall experience felt overpriced. I hope they reconsider charging parents who are simply supervising young children. For now, I'd say it isn't worth it not to bowl. read more

I brought 12 people here bowling and buying food and drinks on a Sunday afternoon. For the record, with 12 people YOU CAN'T GET 3 LANES. I know this because it was practically yelled at me by an angry and evil front desk woman. The manager did give us 3 lanes, but the evil woman at the front desk made sure she gave us a big piece of her mind about it. NEXT time she said, we can't have 3 lanes for 12 people. You can't have 4 people to a lane here, it must be 6. I told her, "don't worry there won't be a next time." Embarrassing in front of my guests I invited here. My friends and family were all just sort of looking at their shoes embarrassed and very uncomfortable. This front-desk devil woman was nothing short of belligerent. The manager was quite nice, but, honestly, I did not feel appreciated or even respected here. I also felt pressured to tip (but this same horrible woman). She made sure I filled out the tip section on the credit card receipt (tapping it will her finger saying "maybe sure you fill out the whole thing") and watched me do it. I gave cash tip after putting $0 partly because I was so uncomfortable and partly because I was happy with the manager overruling her. She literally had me in flight or fight mode, so I wasn't thinking clearly. In the end, I think the evil front desk woman took the tip, however, the opposite of what I wanted to happen. So, I came here to write this negative review. Want better reviews? Fire your horrible front desk staff woman and improve this place. Actually, the lanes are very nice and we did have fun. However, I could have certainly done without the high blood pressure. Now that I am less heated, I'm giving 3 stars for having a wonderful alley and the bartender and manager were both very pleasant. read more

Went here for an offsite event at work. Very spacious, large bowling arena. Plenty of arcade games to choose but you do have to buy a game card which is $10 minimum and games are around $4 each. The food is prepared fresh for you and pretty affordable. I didn't get to try a cocktail since I was at work but they options available sounded delicious. read more

Worst place to ever go to. Went there to celebrate Mother's Day with my whole family. Girl at the front was rude from the start. Had an attitude for no reason. Was giving us rude responses with stank faces and everything. Then told us we had to pay $10/person who will not be bowling but everybody who was already bowling weren't even wearing bowling shoes. Well I'll first off start by saying the appeal towards this alley. There's a lot of lanes and they're actually well maintained. There's some really good bowlers that come here. The main issue I have with this place is the staff. There's two staff members that are just absolutely rude. One of them is beyond rude. There's a lady at the front desk that has such a mean spirited attitude. Both times we've been here I've seen her be rude to other guest and rude to us. Her tone, snappiness, and dismissiveness is far from any realm of good customer service. The second individual was "security". Okay guy, we get it. You're doing security at a bowling alley and probably upset at where you're at in life. No need to be a d**khead to people that just come here to bowl. Cut the attitude or at least put up a sign that says "security, too stupid to answer" if you're going to be rude when a customer needs help. read more

I may not be a good comparitor because I was there for a conference, and they purchased 10 lanes for us, and most people didn't want to bowl, so for two hours straight I bowled on all 10 lanes for two hours. Never rested. It was a blast. The only disappointment was watching that countdown timer when the two hours ended ... and then it all ... went ... dark ... Back to real life :-( read more

After walking through the metal detector, they made 9 of us wait in a very small corral until our other 3 people showed up. My friend asked if he could go get a beer from the bar while we waited, but was told no by security. The corral we had to wait in was about 12x8 feet and there were about 6 others in there already waiting, which was an absolutely ridiculous space for 15 people to stand. Then the only way they charge, is $18 per person per two hours. This would be fine if there were 4 or less people on each lane, but when they pack 6 people per lane you can't even get 2 games in two hours, so we had to buy 4 hours. I was there with my wife and kid, so it cost $108 for the three of us so that we could get more than one game in. It would have been $126 if we needed shoes since shoe rental is another $6 per person. They also only had only one bar open with one bartender, so it took about 20-30 minutes to get a drink. When you are paying by the hour, it basically makes it impossible to get a drink. Forget about even just getting some water, because they took all the drinking fountains out, and the bar and snack bar were way too busy. My other friend showed up, but doesn't bowl, so they charged him $10 to watch. Also like many others have said, the girl working the front counter was rude and miserable, probably because she had to deal with everyone's complaints all day. Lastly, if you throw a hook, don't even think about bowling here. The lanes are drier than death valley. read more

For bowling tournaments to PBA involvement, this place is top notch. Lots of lanes and even a private lane area for tournaments and such. Minimal problems on lanes and if there was, it was taken care of quickly. For leagues to tournaments this place is the place to be. I don't do open bowling or cosmic bowling, so I have no comments to make there. The snack bar was staffed properly. The last 2 times I was at a tournament, they definitely need more bar staff, us bowlers drink and don't have time to stand at the bar. read more

This bowling Alley was always a favorite , I think they have been bought out by a corporation because this last time I went I had a horrible experience. We were charged $10 each for an entry fee and if we wanted to bowl we would have to pay $8.99 more per person. I was charged $7.50 for a iceee slush and another $4.99 for a soda that was loaded with ice and I was told no free refills. I paid $13 for chicken tenders that were cold and the workers preparing them seemed off some drugs. Rude bartender rude staff. Don't waste your money here! read more

Good music great professional staff , and nice cool looking glow in the dark lanes !! Good job to staff that work their for clean bathroons,bathrooms, clean all the way around areas . The video games section was pretty cool spot fr the kids and family . But best of all the Pizza and cheese bread was amazing! The staff was professional during the party section . Bowling should be fun and care free. This place has some work they need to do to reestablish this in my mind. To start, there were people drinking 40s in the parking lot when I came here, so that wasn't very promising. Next, as you walk in you're hit with the smell of cigar smoke for some reason, even though smoking in bowling alleys ended a while ago. When you knock pins over, sometimes the sensors don't calculate it properly. Finally, the thing that bothered me the most, was their snack bar. They didn't have pizza or any other fried food, only nachos. It was really strange. The music was also pretty staticy while we were bowling. read more

I'm a diabetic pregnant woman, I kind of need to be hydrated. It's not like I won't buy any products here. Matter of fact, I decided NOT to bowl because of how I was treated. Still had to pay $5 to sit here and watch. It wasn't that I was turned away, It's because of the security guards attitude as if I was trying to sneak some liquor in there. The prices are a flat fee, and you have to pay even if your not bowling. The customer clientele, is, less to be desired. Don't get me wrong, I'm a minority, born and raised in Southwest Detroit and familiar with the hood, But Thunderbowl entertains the ghetto-est of the Ghetto-est crowd. I know you can't turn people away because of their attitude, I just wish it was nicer to bowl here, But you're going to deal with rude security, overworked and overwhelmed staff, loud and ignorant people in the next lane, and unwatched and unruly kids running around. read more

Bowling is my favorite past time. And I used to LOVE coming to Thunderbowl lanes to enjoy that before Pat left. Since I first step foot in this place tonight I have had an experience that was less than acceptable let alone enjoyable. On first impression, the price they charge is different than the price they promote online so if you see the online rates it may actually be different. For example, we expected to pay $10 each as people coming to bowl on Friday in the regular area at 9:40pm. They told us it was a "Friday special" and we paid $14 HUH???!! Then after that we had security come check all of our bags and interrogate is for alcohol (they found no alcohol). And in addition to that they didn't give us BUMPERS!!! We have a disabled person with us and they said the lanes are not for those who are over 8 years old. This was never ever ever an issue with Pat when she was the owner because she understood that everyone is not at the same bowling level. Also, I asked the bar for extra cups and they said NO. This play is not somewhere I will ever come again. Cajun catfish from the cooks is AMAZING though. read more

My daughter had a 20Th bowling party and we had a wonderful person who assisted my family named Sherri. Very nice and genuine and showed my daughter who is autistic compassion and understanding. Everything was awesome, hot good pizza (made on time and came out hot), breadsticks were delicious and all the kids loved the arcade. My husband and I went for a holiday work party here and had a blast. The set up was super easy, everything was organized and made getting settled in quick and painless. They even set up special kids lanes with the gutter lanes blocked off so the children in the group could have their own fun. They also have an arcade and fun area for them. This allowed our group to all be happy; children, parents and non parents. The adults in the group had access to both cheap beer and cheap mixed drinks. Perfect. Nothing like three buck drinks with decent alcohol to make me happy. My first game was a 70, my next one after a three buck drink was a 120. In other words, to a novice, alcohol is a must to bowl halfway decently. To have this necessity at a bargain price point? Perfect. We had free soft drinks and water. The pizza was decent. Everyone seemed very content. It was kind of awesome to get to do a strange activity for us as a group. Very bonding. A good time was had by all. Not a typical party but a fun one. My host was great, the party room was clean and assembled when we arrived, the alley was clean and lit up cosmic upon arrival which was awesome. I had a minor hiccup due to a misunderstanding on the website that led to an increase in my total bill we financially, weren't expecting... Had a party here for my daughter, not impressed. We would've been better off just going as a group and paying separately. I understand the time block of 2 hours alloted, however there was no one else having a party after ours-therefore the pressuring to clear the room and letting us know several times that the lanes were going to go off in 10 minutes was a nuisance! Constant badgering about reaching our guest cpacity (15), when later it was admitted that there was an error on the staff's end. Overall we had a good time, after paying extra to continue bowling and stopping mid game to clear the room out. Glow in the dark balls, now that's kinky. Unless you're talking about cosmic bowling. It's glow in the dark, black light bowling. Whiten your teeth and really glow in the dark so everyone can see you. I went here for a birthday party. We cosmic bowled, it was a blast. Obviously you're not going here and reporting your scores to the PBA. All fun and joking aside this bowling alley is like the best alley around in Michigan and many other states. It boasts as the second largest in the country with a total of 90 lanes. It's so big(How big is it?) that you need a golf cart to get from one end to the other. This bowling alley is clean for as large as it is. The staff is very friendly. Great pro shop. They even sponsor many PBA tournaments here. This is also home to the old TV show Bowling for Dollars. This is one of the many and my favorite bowling alleys that I used to go to all the time when I lived in the area. This was a great date place. Our son bowled a high end youth tournament today, and the counter guy picked up our sons bowling equipment and threw it because it was in front of a pop machine. Thunder Bowl are uninviting, not friendly or accommodating. I would never recommend giving a party there. My family was charges a different price after the event then what was quoted and agreed upon prior to the day of the event. They opened and plated the party's pizza resulting in cold slices of pizza. They attempted to double charge the party's prepaid invited guests at the door and initially denied a guest entry at 7p when the party wasn't over until 8, this guest had already paid and the host was already aware that this individual, a mother with two six year olds would be running behind do to having to work that day. The owner claimed that the party section was to compacity when it was not. You see my father being an frequent competitive bowler has attended many bowling events in which has had double the attendees in the particular section in question. Besides the actual lanes our party occupied weren't even full. Each lane holds up to five bowlers at least, two lanes had space for additional bowels. And they charges our party $5 for individuals that were not bowling (parents of the bowlers at the party in which was not participating in the party festivities just simply supervising.) Mind you there were two other parties in the section to assume that the spectating individuals were with us because of the color of their skin simply was unfair and a 5$ spectator fee was not discussed in our previous agreement. Thunder Bowel staff created a stressful and hostile night for our party goes. Never again will I step foot in this establishment and I encourage any one who refuse to be treated in this manner to boycott this place of business. read more
