Great prices and a friendly staff. Michelle who works the counter goes above and beyond. It's a small town feel in a city setting.

Longacre House - Bridge and groom with Longacre House in the background

Longacre House

(16 reviews)

The Longacre House in Farmington Hills, Michigan is a registered local historic site. A sign is…read moreposted outside that reads: "Luman W. Goodenough (1873-1947), prominent Detroit Attorney, charter member and first president of the Detroit Rotary Club, acquired this building and land surrounding it in 1915, naming it the Longacre House. The earliest portion was erected in 1869 by Palmer Sherman. The twentieth century saw several additions here including the impressive six-foot high stone wall constructed in 1917 along the east property line. In 1969, Goodenough heirs gave this handsome Georgian manor home and five acres of land to the Farmington area to be used as a community center. This facility hosts conferences and club meetings, numerous weddings and receptions, and recreation courses in crafts and the arts. Local citizens are proud of the Longacre House, which is an area landmark." I attended my fiancee's good friend's pellikoduku at the Longacre House. (A pellikoduku is a traditional Indian pre-wedding ceremony for the groom.) This house is located about 25 miles from downtown Detroit. It takes a little over 30 minutes to get to the house from downtown Detroit without any traffic. The house is owned and operated by the City of Farmington Hills. This is a beautiful historic brick home that's been well-maintained, inside and out. The outside is picturesque with finely-manicured lawns and nicely-landscaped grounds. I made sure to get a picture with my fiancee in front of the house where there is a nice brick pathway and colorful plants and flowers. The event took place inside what I believe is the Longacre House's main event space. It looks like a living room (with fireplace) that has been converted and combined with perhaps a back porch or patio area to serve as an open event space. There were five round white tablecloth tables set up with place settings (each table seating 12 people) along with buffet-style catered food and drink. The event space had a drink and dessert station while the salad, entrees, and sides were set up in a separate room nearby. The house was simple with minimal decor - nice chandeliers, curtains, and hardwood floors. There's a small garden and gazebo outside. I believe dinner catering was provided by Longacre House's in-house catering group, Gourmet Express Catering & Event Planning Group based out of South Lyon, Michigan. We had glasses of a fruit drink with slices of strawberry, purple grapes, and Mandarin oranges. Dinner consisted of spinach salad with croutons, an herb rice risotto, asparagus, lasagna, and a potato dish with vegetables cooked-in such as chopped carrots and squash. There was a coffee and dessert station with both regular and decaf coffee plus assorted dessert bites including what looked like brownie squares and baklava. In general, I thought the food was good. I love greens and vegetables so I got seconds on the spinach and asparagus. This was a fairly straightforward event. Aside from dinner, there was a pre-dinner gathering, sort of like a cocktail hour, where people mixed and mingled. After dinner, the actual pellikoduku activities commenced. There was also a mehndi (Indian body art) artist who applied red-orange mehndi "stains" to many of the female guests. Longacre House staff were present, but they were fairly hands-off as the food and drink were self-serve. They mainly made sure the food and drink stations were in order, replenished as needed, and cleared finished dinner plates. They were professionally (formally) dressed, polite, and did a good job throughout the night. If you get a chance to check out other rooms of the house or take a look around outside at the grounds, you should. It's a neat place to explore. There's plenty of parking too which is convenient for guests.

Missy, the event coordinator, did an amazing job; she suggested vendors for us to use, all of which were great, and made sure everything looked perfect on the big day. I had bought some decorations that I wasn't certain would look the best because I was on a budget, but the staff arranged them better than i ever could've done and the wedding was more beautiful than I imagined. The food was also great, especially the salmon! Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We booked our date maybe 1.5 years in advance and started to meet with the Planterra team maybe 6 months prior. We had roughly 3-4 in person meetings and a couple of scheduled phone calls throughout the process. The planterra team was so organized and thought of everything (we did not hire a planner, and did not feel like we had to at all because the planterra team was so comprehensive!). On the day of, everything went extremely smoothly. The day of coordinator helped us stay on track and made sure we were all where we needed to be while keeping us calm and collected. We had a VIP server that focused on me and the groom (Alejandro--you're the best!!!), which was something I never knew I needed until we experienced it. He completely took care of us, making sure we always had a drink and enough food. The florals were stunning, and we had compliments on the romantic candlelit ambiance all night. The temperature was perfect (we were initially a little worried since we chose a winter wedding date), and the transition from daylight to sunset to starry sky was so beautiful. At the end of the night, the Planterra team packed everything up for us and even helped load our stuff into cars. We were then allowed to pick the rest of the stuff up the next day. Cost-wise, our wedding ended up costing a litttttle bit more than what was orginally in the proposed budget by Planterra (d/t extras such as valet parking, coat check, cake cutting and plating). But honestly, this venue was worth it--our stress levels were low to none because we trusted the Planterra team and we were completely able to enjoy the night!

I've been to several arcade…read morebars including Ready Player One, Pop + Offworld, and Pinball Pete's and 1 Up is probably my favorite!!! It's great that it's local and easy to get to. It's located in Downtown Farmington above Basement Burger Bar. The entrance is behind the building and there's plenty of parking behind the building too. I also like that it's not as tight, compact, and crowded as Ready Player One can get. I also had less problems with machines eating quarters or games getting stuck. The barcade itself is super cute and themed perfectly. The bar area has a giant light-up Pac-Man backdrop and all of the drinks on the menu are themed after old school video games. There's the Pac-Man old fashioned and Ms. Pac-Man cosmopolitan, a Ginball Wizard G&T, and a Diddy Kong banana flavored cocktail made with Screwball peanut butter whiskey. The craft cocktails are $9. They also have super delicious frozen cocktails! My favorite cocktail here is the frozen Donkey Kong! Do yourself a favor and order this! You will thank me later lol. It's a frozen banana cocktail with dark rum, cinnamon and vanilla. The best part: they actually flambé a banana and top the cocktail with the caramelized banana....yum!! The frozen cocktails are huuugee!! 23 oz for only $11. It's so large, it's the only drink you'll probably need for the night. I thought I had ordered the big one by mistake but apparently the big one is 51 oz and looks like a giant fish bowl to share for $22. They also have frozen Pac-Man cocktails called Blinky (raspberry), Inky (blue curaçao spin on a pina colada), Pinky (watermelon colada), and Clyde (whisky peach smash), and also a Kirby froze. They also have some craft beers on tap, some tasty $4 shots, and some bar snacks including chips, popsicles, Fun Dip and candy cigarettes for $1-$2. There's plenty of seating at the bar and also 1-2 tables throughout the barcade. Service was great! Bao was our bartender and he was super helpful, friendly, fast, efficient, and knowledgeable. Cocktails ordered come with 4 tokens for a game, and beers come with two tokens for a game. You can use tokens or regular quarters on all of the games and they have a couple change machines throughout the barcade. Most games require about two quarters/tokens and bigger games require four. I would say about $8-$10 is what you would need for tokens/quarters here to enjoy between two people for a fun night. They also have little tables by every video game to set your drink and drink holders at the pinball machines. They have about 5-6 pinball machines. I played the Pirates of the Caribbean one and it was super fun! I like how the pirate ship came to life. They have lots of nostalgic video games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter vs. X-Men. They have some of my faves like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They have some driving games like Mario Kart and a game where you shoot zombies and of course an air hockey table which is always a blast. I've been here a couple times recently and before the pandemic, they even had a DJ spinning on the weekends. It's a fun spot to start your night with friends and maybe head to karaoke at BBB after or Swing Dancing in the park/pavilion. It also makes a great date night too!! I came here for a date and started the evening with tacos across the street at Masa and it was a lot of fun! They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays but are open Wednesday & Thursday from 5pm to 12am, Friday from 5pm to 2am, Saturday from 12pm to 2am, and Sunday  5pm to 10pm. I highly recommend stopping in! Feels like you're at Chuck-E-Cheese minus the scary animatronic singing robots plus now I can have cocktails, yay! You will have a blast guaranteed!

There are some areas with sidewalks that could use TLC and edging, but all and all the dog parks have the lawns done nicely. Ocassionally rain causes mud puddles, but outside of that there is a lot of field in the areas. The dog park gets pretty busy around 5:30-7 or so. If you have a dog that doesn't do well with a bunch of dogs, I'd stay away from this time. Most dogs are good and get along well with others. Some dogs just don't care for other dogs and that's ok as long as the owner is there. Too many times owners are too busy socializing and don't keep an eye on their dogs. The owner knows their dog exhibits certain behaviors yet doesn't pay attention to the dog at all. I fear something bad will happen. The trash cans should be emptied more often. It's nice they have bags and receptacles all over. Watch as you walk around because there can be quite a bit of poop around.

A lot of goofy & happy dogs running around socializing and having a good time. The people who come here are nice and friendly & understanding. I have not seen a single "aggressive dog" just a few dogs who are talkative or like to play rough which is kind of like how my husky is. No one really gives you a hard time and most dogs here are disciplined. It's always a good time honestly. My dogs can run infinitely, I'm serious.. I've stayed here for 4 hours a few times and she could still run. I take my dogs here so I can exercise myself, and when I get tired it's time to go. They keep the place maintained nice. Everyone cleans up after there pup & people are respectful of others. It does get muddy on rainy days, but they do try to keep the grass trimmed. In the winter the sign says it closes at 7 but I come here frequently after 6:30 and sometimes stay a little after 7 with no hassle. I recommend bringing a bowl and gallon of water so your pup doesn't get dehydrated, there is also plenty of garbage bins and seating areas so you can have a comfortable experience. No food or treats. Also be aware of kennel cough, it's not a bad thing but it does exist and if you don't want your pup to get it, then don't take it to public places. I hope my review makes you excited to go. I love dogs.
