I give it a 4 because the issues I have aren't necessarily the park, but rather visitors. This mostly specific to the dog park. The dog parks are large. There are some areas with sidewalks that could use TLC and edging, but all and all the dog parks have the lawns done nicely. Ocassionally rain causes mud puddles, but outside of that there is a lot of field in the areas. The dog park gets pretty busy around 5:30-7 or so. If you have a dog that doesn't do well with a bunch of dogs, I'd stay away from this time. Most dogs are good and get along well with others. Some dogs just don't care for other dogs and that's ok as long as the owner is there. Too many times owners are too busy socializing and don't keep an eye on their dogs. The owner knows their dog exhibits certain behaviors yet doesn't pay attention to the dog at all. I fear something bad will happen. The trash cans should be emptied more often. It's nice they have bags and receptacles all over. Watch as you walk around because there can be quite a bit of poop around. read more

I love this dog park and so do my dogs. I've been taking both my dogs since they were around 6 months to this place (these pictures were from last year) but the experience is still the same. A lot of goofy & happy dogs running around socializing and having a good time. The people who come here are nice and friendly & understanding. I have not seen a single "aggressive dog" just a few dogs who are talkative or like to play rough which is kind of like how my husky is. No one really gives you a hard time and most dogs here are disciplined. It's always a good time honestly. My dogs can run infinitely, I'm serious.. I've stayed here for 4 hours a few times and she could still run. I take my dogs here so I can exercise myself, and when I get tired it's time to go. They keep the place maintained nice. Everyone cleans up after there pup & people are respectful of others. It does get muddy on rainy days, but they do try to keep the grass trimmed. In the winter the sign says it closes at 7 but I come here frequently after 6:30 and sometimes stay a little after 7 with no hassle. I recommend bringing a bowl and gallon of water so your pup doesn't get dehydrated, there is also plenty of garbage bins and seating areas so you can have a comfortable experience. No food or treats. Also be aware of kennel cough, it's not a bad thing but it does exist and if you don't want your pup to get it, then don't take it to public places. I hope my review makes you excited to go. Just silly as can be. Get off work at 5, go home, change into the attire and try to hit golf balls at 5:30-5:40... They close the range on the longest day of the year at 5:30. What a joke, if you want a more consistent and considerate golf club go elsewhere. read more

I am a senior and just love this course, last year my girlfriends and played enough for the Rangers to know us. We just played it and it is in beautiful shape .. .BUT THE PRICES WENT UP FROM $35 for seniors to $45 THAT IS OVER A 28% increase. That is crazy! I will not be going there as often. There are way to many courses around here that are good for less $$. To bad.....what were they thinking! We were told they hired consultants.....bad idea, I am sure they paid a pretty penny for them. Normally a well-maintained course & lots of fun/5 sets of tees. However, with the recent voluminous rains, it wasn't so much fun on Tuesday. But I imagine most of the courses around here are like that. The staff is terrific/friendly & the restaurant facility and banquet area is a great place to host an event. It was just a bit muddy, wet, long grass in some places.... tough getting out of the rough, LOL. However, under normal circumstances, I would give it five stars. I DO recommend this course read more

Nice course but ruined by rude staff. I was out her for our annual work golf outing yesterday. The course is very nice. The food is typical. Unfortunately the staff proved to be the most rude I've ever encountered in my 15 years of golfing. I can cut the kids running the pro shop some slack for being slow. At least they weren't total jerks. However starting with the lady running the bar to the starter, a sixty year old rocking a mullet, the staff at Lyon Oaks golf course was impatient and curt. What really got me is what happened today. I purchased a shirt from the pro shop yesterday and proceeded to leave it on a patio table just outside. I was very grateful today when I called and learned that they had it. So I gladly drive the 45 minutes to the course to pick it up. When I got to the shop I asked if they had my shirt. Larry acted as if he was totally surprised that anyone would be asking for such a thing. I pointed over to the window and asked if the bag there with a note taped on it did in fact contain my shirt. I gave him my name and last four numbers of the card I paid with. He informed me, as of I should have known, that the receipt only shows the last two numbers of my card. He then went on to say maybe it wasn't actually my shirt and that there was another shirt someone called about. Anyway, so I ignored his comments. Yesterday I actually hit a longest drive and won a $50 gift card. I asked if I could return the shirt and pay the difference. He scoffed as if I had just asked for his left kidney. Then he proceeded to turn his back to me. If asked if he was serious and he then ignored me. I'm pretty sure he is not hard of hearing. I asked him to reconsider because I live far from the course and the only reason I come out here is for work and actually this is my last year at my current job. Still more cold shoulder. Finally, i clearly explained that the shirt costs more than $60 and that I would still end up having to pay money. At this point he approves the transaction. I continued to bite my tongue because honestly I think his actions were so incredibly ignorant and rude. Turn your back on a customer? WTF?! Was about to give this place two stars, but I think his actions earned him a big, fat one star. read more

The dog park here is great. $30 for a yearly pass. I believe online it states that the dog park is 13 acres fenced in. The only problem I can see happening is dogs fighting and being really far away to get over to them. So far there has never been a problem when I have been there. Everyone seems good about bring dogs that play nice. There is an area for small dogs and one for larger dogs, which is comforting for both big and small dog owners. First time that I went I was surprised how many dogs where there. My dog loved it and always sleeps good that night. Park supplies trash bags and waste bins. There is also a porta-potty which I have never used. Covered areas with picnic benches for owners to hang out at. Great spot for dog owners. So far have not used the rest of the park. read more

Golf course first rate and great value. Well maintained, length fair, well- monitored by staff. Greens superb, tee boxes groomed. Staff was exemplary - professional, accommodating and accommodating. Bark Park: As a small dog owner I really apprecaiate it when they have separate areas for large and small dogs. I just need dog owners to respect the rules. This has a small fenced area with some trees for the dogs to run around. They provide waste bags and trash. The big dog area is huge, the small dog area is pretty small, but it works. I was glad when they added picnic tables for the pet owners to sit. Beware port-o potties/lets only. Small dogs are allowed in the big dog area. Your dogs will have a blast! read more

Played here for the first time and really like the course. Both sides were nice thought the back had some difficult holes but still very playable. One thing is that there seemed to be rangers all over..like State Police watching everything you do and giving orders. We had a 12:05 tee time and it was a few minutes before 12 a ranger comes zooming up saying "You better get on the tee or get skipped" with an attitude. We had 7-8 minutes, nobody was on the tee and nobody waiting to tee off. Right away our whole group had a bad taste for our first time there. We were on the 4th hole green and a ranger said we had to pick it up. I looked back and the tee box was still open from the group behind us. I told him "don`t worry about us..the tee is still open behind us." They say to keep the carts 30 yards from the green. A couple of times I will admit we were 20 yards away..got scolded for that as well. Yet he drove his cart right next to the green to scold us. I guess it is "Do as I say, not as I do" We just ignored him. Anyway it is a very nice golf course. read more

I take my little Dachshund here almost every day. He and I both love it here! The pet owners are usually very nice and you all have a special connection because you all love your dogs! As the other reviews say it is $30 for a yearly pass or $5 per visit otherwise. I suggest getting the $30 pass because once you go you'll fall in love. They do have a small dog park and two large dog parks, I take my mini Dachshund into the large dog inclosure most of the time, most of the dogs are very well behaved. I have seen some incidences but that's to be expected and the owners get the situation under control right away. Anyone who owns a Husky, Friday night is the un official Husky night (: Also, my boyfriend goes to the Driving Range here and likes it. The prices are reasonable. read more

This is for the Bark Park only: During the warmer months, and sometimes in the winter, I will treat my pup to a trip to the Lyon Oaks Bark Park. Lyon Oaks is part of the Oakland County Park system and is located on the border of Lyon Twp. and Wixom. I've only visited the dog park here, with the exception of once visiting the office to buy a park pass. I haven't been on the trails here as they do not allow dogs on the nature trails, and I always have Dharma, the pup, with me when I come out here. The Bark Park is a 13 acre off-leash park that is divided into 2 large dog enclosures, a general meeting area and a small dog enclosure. Only one of the two larger dog enclosures will be open to ensure that grass grows evenly in each section. The dog always has a blast running around the whole park, no matter what the weather. I have quickly learned that her favorite game is to get other dogs to chase her around the larger dog enclosures. Of course it is nicest to bring her here during the summer but there are still dogs and their humans here in the middle of winter. About 97.5% of the time the dogs and their owners have been friendly and nice. I have witnessed some aggressive dogs and have heard stories about some incidences. However, the owners are always quick to correct the dog's behavior and remedy the situation. Just once in a while, you will get that dolt (human or dog) that has no pet-ettiquite. Best thing to do is grab your pup and walk far away. The hours for the park are great, they are open to about dusk everyday with the exception of Christmas. I have even been to the park on Easter one year and it was open. Passes can be purchased on a daily or yearly basis. The yearly pass is $30 and allows you into all the Oakland County Parks. Usually, passes are checked for on the weekends but I have once seen a cop drive by on a random Monday looking for park passes. When visiting the park, its best to bring some drinking water and maybe a dish for the dog but leave treats and food at home. Toys seem to be welcome but remember that other dogs may 'borrow' them for a wee while. Lyon Oaks also has a golf course, banquet center, rec fields, hiking trails and nature center; all of which I have not experienced yet. read more

Wedding Venue: We were stood up. We scheduled an appointment with Cassie to tour the venue and obtain some information about their wedding packages, and she forgot about us. We arrived at the venue at our scheduled time, and she wasn't even there that day. We met with someone else who happened to be covering for her. He said that our name was in the book, and that he doesn't know how that could have happened. She was on vacation. (I would have excused her if it was an emergency...) We haven't received any apology email or phone call from Cassie or anyone on the staff.... I am very disappointed. The venue itself isn't all that pretty on the inside anyways. We were able to walk around a bit, but it wasn't all that stunning. The green carpet is quite ugly, and the chairs area also green (and somewhat stained, so they would need to be covered, and they charge an additional fee for that.) The outdoor patio is beautiful.... The bar area is nice.... The dance floor is small. How can a venue that charges $10,000 - $20,000 for a wedding forget about an appointment? I can't trust this venue with such an important day. read more

The Bark Park here is great. Tons of space for dogs to run and play, and a nice gazebo in the middle for the people to lounge as well. The grass is surprisingly not worn so the dogs stay clean/not muddy. Most of the owners seem pretty responsible about watching and picking up after their pet and on the weekends there are always lots of other dogs around for our pups to play with. Well worth the yearly park pass. The only complaint is that some owners not picking up after their pets makes it a bit of a mine field around the perimeter :/ read more

Great track! Enjoyed playing here. The greens were consistent and fast. The fairways are generous and it has some cool looking holes. The first green was in rough shape but the rest of the greens were top notch. The par threes are too short from the whites but that's it. I shouldn't have to hit a sand wedge off a tee box ever. I'll be playing from the tips next time. read more

This course is amazing, it has a great up north feel. This was our first time playing here and the staff was very friendly. One ranger took the time to explain to us the layout of the holes and told us we could take our time to enjoy the course. We had a great time and will be playing here again. read more

Lyon Oaks - Deer on the 18th tee - Golf Near Me - South Lyon, Michigan

This review is about the hiking trails at Lyon Oaks. There are about 6 miles of trails at Lyon Oaks, divided about 60-40 woods to open fields. Park officials have completed a connector that allows you to walk in a loop around the trails for a total of about 4.5 miles--which is an excellent improvement. There is a wetlands reclamation project underway, which is logical given the park conditions. The area can be fairly wet in the spring, with portions of certain trails underwater, and in the summer the woods is buggy. There are numerous songbirds, and they're trying to start a heron rookery in a pond area within the woods. There are also snakes. I see at least one nearly every time I'm there--and that's not a postive for me. Most are garter snakes, but there have also been sighting (including one by me) of the Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake. In general the trails are not crowded, which is a plus. But archery hunting is allowed in the fall, in the area around the trails, which is a negative for me. read more

Pros: Excellent challenge yet fair thanks to generous fairways and large greens. Personnel who are the best the Oakland Co. courses have to offer. Great practice areas. Cons: None really although the greens fees are on the steep side without a Group Golfer cert. My favorite course in Oakland Country, even better than Birmingham Country Club or Oakland Hills (North). Every hole takes thought and shot execution. This is a place you will be rewarded for good play and punished for careless hacking. read more
