My friend was married here a couple weeks ago and the venue was absolutely magical! The dimmed lighting give such a charming and romantic. The trees, fountains, and stone wall give such an earthy feel, and the florals made the room feel enchanting. The wait staff were all very lovely and accommodating, and the bar staff did a wonderful job on the drinks. Not many appetizers to tide the guests over and one woman stood out as rude Tiffany. She managed everything but god forbid you ask a question. She was too busy to guide some guests. This is a lovely wedding venue and they did a very nice job with everything (as far as I could tell). Since it wasn't my wedding I don't know what the bride & groom requested - but the setup was very well done. Nuptials on one side with a nice entrance, then cocktail hour with hors d'oeuvres on the other side. That was followed by the wedding party entrance into the reception side where we were then seated for dinner. The tables were nicely laid out and well appointed. Dinner was excellent - a piece of chicken & beef, both cooked well with a nice potato gratin in the middle. The dance floor and lights were fun and a good size. I really liked the valet parking - it was great not to have to find a place to park and then traverse a parking lot in high heels. Super nice touch and the parkers were polite and helpful. The venue inside is beautiful, right down to the koi fish pond. We really liked the way the bridesmaids entered and came down the aisle. The arbor where the bride & groom were married was lovely. Flowers are everywhere - on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, wrapped around everything - it made it feel like you were outdoors. That also had a really pretty outdoor space where we hung out for a while before dinner. It made for a great mingling atmosphere. A few small things they could focus on or fix. I felt like they didn't have enough roaming waiters with the snacks. My bf, son, DIL & I were literally chasing them down to try to get an hors d'oeuvre. It was comical - we'd spot a waiter - walk towards them - by the time we got there everything would be gone. We were hungry because we knew there was going to be cocktail hour and we had not eaten. We all did finally manage to get 1 each of the 3 different hors d'oeuvres served, but it was a challenge! It was hotter then heck in there. It was a mid-September wedding and an overcast cloudy day - thank goodness. Everyone was meltingly hot, dabbing foreheads, fanning themselves, men were stripping off their jackets. I really regretted my dress choice and wished I had worn something more summery. We literally went into the bathroom - the only place with a/c - just to cool down. I can't imagine how hot it would have been if the sun had been out. We would have been roasted alive - it is a giant greenhouse / conservatory - all glass after all. Dessert was small finger size items, but because it was so warm they were melting. There were also no plates or napkins or forks set out. We weren't sure how to eat them. I finally went over to the bar and got some cocktail napkins to use - that kind of worked, but I still ended up with sticky fingers. Just minor things - It was a great wedding and after all you're there to celebrate a marriage - but this being Yelp - if Planterra reads this - things to think about! read more

This venue is a DREAM. We had our wedding here earlier this year, and everything was perfect from start to finish! We booked our date maybe 1.5 years in advance and started to meet with the Planterra team maybe 6 months prior. We had roughly 3-4 in person meetings and a couple of scheduled phone calls throughout the process. The planterra team was so organized and thought of everything (we did not hire a planner, and did not feel like we had to at all because the planterra team was so comprehensive!). On the day of, everything went extremely smoothly. The day of coordinator helped us stay on track and made sure we were all where we needed to be while keeping us calm and collected. We had a VIP server that focused on me and the groom (Alejandro--you're the best!!!), which was something I never knew I needed until we experienced it. He completely took care of us, making sure we always had a drink and enough food. The florals were stunning, and we had compliments on the romantic candlelit ambiance all night. The temperature was perfect (we were initially a little worried since we chose a winter wedding date), and the transition from daylight to sunset to starry sky was so beautiful. At the end of the night, the Planterra team packed everything up for us and even helped load our stuff into cars. We were then allowed to pick the rest of the stuff up the next day. Cost-wise, our wedding ended up costing a litttttle bit more than what was orginally in the proposed budget by Planterra (d/t extras such as valet parking, coat check, cake cutting and plating). But honestly, this venue was worth it--our stress levels were low to none because we trusted the Planterra team and we were completely able to enjoy the night! read more

Planterra is beautiful. My friend had her wedding here and it was so gorgeous. Live trees, beautiful flowers, two little coy ponds, everything was so gorgeous. The venue is incredible. The centerpieces on the table were so beautiful, gorgeous white flowers with green, freshly picked leaves. Along with the candles... so pretty. The food was 3.5/4 stars. The bread is disappointing, the chicken was not flavorful, but the steak was good, cooked medium for everyone. The scalloped potato are great, and the asparagus was undercooked and undersalted. The desserts are great. The drinks are weak. But it's a wedding venue, what do you expect. However... I do know what my friend paid per person. And it's a lot. It's really expensive for what it is (a wedding), but it's also a wedding, so I get it. read more

Went to the new greenhouse to get some plants for a friend. WOW! What an amazing conservatory! Such tropical foliage...and they have the largest living wall in Michigan! You are missing out if you don't visit here. It is so relaxing, so beautiful, and their selection is outrageous! Plants ranging in price from $4 to hundreds of dollars, and various other objects relating to plants and gardening, etc. WOW! That's all I can say. I know, not everybody likes to go to West Bloomfield, but it is not on Orchard Lake Road (cursed be that road) and it is quite unique in so many ways. Also, their building is very eco-friendly. If there were an option for 6 stars, I'd give them six. read more

Their floral, catering, decor -- ALL options -- are of highest caliber. We honestly think of David, Anne, Tiffany, Kirsten and their entire team as the rarest jewel of the Midwest. We're incredibly proud to have worked with them and over-the-moon thrilled with the outcome and the ripples that continue to radiate from our magical weekend in June 2018. Had the pleasure of being a bridesmaid at a wedding held here this past weekend. The venue is breathtakingly beautiful, especially in the evening. I wish I had some pictures to show everyone in this review. Tiffany, the coordinator, was excellent and made sure all of our needs were taken care of. The only downside is there is no AC... so on a 97 degree day... in a long bridesmaid dress... with a face full of makeup... jumping around on a dance floor... you're definitely swampy at the end of the evening. Beautiful. Absolutely stunning. Was in a wedding that was held here in mid October. I was unsure what to expect, but when i walked in, I was blown away. Such a unique place to hold a reception. Had a organic, ethereal, enchanted garden vibe to it. I love that there is a tree just in the middle of the place that is just laced with beautiful white lights. They even have a bridal suite in the back to allow us to touch up throughout the night. The staff was exceptional. They were very accommodating for the entire wedding party. Made sure that our glasses were always full and we had our share of the hors d'oeuvres that were set aside for us in the bridal suite. If you are considering this place for your wedding, do it! I attended the most beautiful wedding at Planterra this weekend. I've heard rave reviews about Planterra from my friends but I was skeptical, as I had an uncomfortable experience as a guest at Goldner Walsh's greenhouses in Pontiac a year ago. While Goldner Walsh is a nice garden center to shop at but it cannot be compare to Planterra as a venue. In fact, Planterra cannot really be compared to any other garden nursey I've ever been to. The closest comparison would be a modern version of a major botanical garden like the Detroit Belle Isle Conservatory. Planterra is architecturally regal, clean lines, symmetrical with an open-floor plan. The layout is cohesive and elegant. The wedding ceremony and reception flowed beautifully. All of this amongst a beautiful collection of tropical plants, big ferns, palms and a massive bougainvillea tree. The living wall bar is a showstopper. The floral designs were amazing. The giant cut floral wreath chandeliers hung above the dining tables is something I've never seen before. I felt like I was dinning out of town in southern France or Brazil. Maybe it was all of the fresh oxygen or the fact that I was so stimulated by the décor but the food was delicious too and I never expect good food at weddings. The service and food quality was just as good as any banquet in a five-star hotel. Yes, a greenhouse is delivering food and beverage in the same league as the Ritz, Townsend or Royal Park. Décor and food beside, Planterra is an authentic place that touched my heart. It felt really special to celebrate my cousin's wedding at Planterra. I will remember the night for the rest of my life. Gorgeous venue, mediocre service Planterra is a beautiful venue and they will promise you a lot of details during the wedding planning process; however, the day-of service was very rough around the edges. Planterra decided to close the bar after the ceremony to "settle in" guests. This was never mentioned during any of the meetings or calls. My dad was livid and running around trying to remedy this issue. There was no reason for bar to be closed at that time since first dance and hora were next and we actually wanted people up and not seated. This mistake cause us a lot of unnecessary stress. Planterra reimbursed us for the time the bar was closed, but of course we would have much rather had the bar open and not deal with this issue than have a few hundred dollars back. We ordered lamb chops as an additional appetizer during cocktail hour and they were served rare. I told Planterra in advance many times that my family only eats well-done meat and their steaks need to be served that way, but they didn't warn me or mention anything about the rare lamb chops. Instead of at least being served medium, the lamb chops were visibly red on the outside and many guests did not enjoy them. We were supposed to have a waiter assigned to us and we didn't see him at all. We ordered dirty martinis and were served lemon drop mix with olives. It took a long time to find another waiter to replace this mistake. We also paid extra to have a waiter assigned to my dad, who did not check in with him either. The waiters ignored the color stickers on the place cards and served a dairy meal to my husband when all the notes said groom is allergic to dairy. I heard from other people that they had to switch plates too. Seems like waiters just plopped down entrees without caring for allergies or dietary restrictions, even though I filled in Planterra's seating chart and put colored coded stickers on the place cards, just how Planterra asked. Planterra promised to pack up one of every dessert for me and my husband but instead just gave me back the an entire unopened box of the same truffles I paid to have shipped from NYC (which I have all the time)... I'm disappointed I skipped the dessert buffet because Planterra promised I'd have their desserts packed to go and they never delivered on this promise. Our welcome sign was left in the middle of the room right before the guests arrived (not at the front where a welcome sign should be) and our kippahs were placed inside-out on the front table. During my hectic wedding day, I personally had to walk through and point out these details to Planterra employees to fix. On a positive note, the flowers and decor were beautiful and the room looked even better than I had imagined. I was very happy with my bouquet - the style and colors matched perfectly to the inspiration pictures I sent. When we arrived, the bridal suite was set up perfectly for us in the afternoon. The pictures we have so far are beautiful. Overall, Planterra doesn't care about executing a flawless event down to the details because they know they will have customers regardless since the setting is so stunning. read more

We had our wedding here April 1st 2017 and were truly blown away by how professional they were at all aspects of the planning stage and actual execution. The venue its self is stunning and almost transforms into a whole different space as the sun goes down. We had people repeatedly tell us that it was the most beautiful wedding / venue they had ever been too. All our other vendors were complementing them on a job well done as they have a lot of experience in seeing how different venues handle things differently from the ceremony to reception. I went to a wedding at Planterra recently and went from curious about the venue, being a greenhouse and all, not your "typical" wedding location, to shock that more people haven't discovered this hidden gem of a "reception hall". Imagine cocktail hour, outside the greenhouse, high top tables on the patio, waiting for the main event inside. Upon entry, the moonlight peeking in from the glass ceiling above, further illuminating the gorgeous backdrop that is Planterra, was breathtaking. It was by far, the most beautiful wedding reception I have ever been to. Built-in plants and lush greenery, even before the first centerpiece is displayed on the tables, makes the perfect start to a fairy-tale event. read more

I have attended several events here over the years, most notably with the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. The building, the setting, and the interior scheme are all so beautifully composed with 'exotic' flaura and fauna. In my opinion, Planterra is one of the most memorable and tasteful spaces in the city for a non-profit event (especially in the frigid winters of Metro Detroit). But of course, with a great building should come a great staff and Planterra does not disappoint--meet the owners and you'll realize that this place is truly a labor of love. Everyone had a fantastic attitude and offered guests a superior standard of service from start to finish. I now live in New York, but I will always miss this gem of a place. read more

I had set an appointment to see this venue weeks ago in anticipation of our visit to Michigan to see wedding venues. From Virginia no less. The only time available was Sunday, September 2nd, at 11 am. "Perfect" I thought! So Saturday night at 9:33pm, I received an email confirming the appointment. Weird. Being so late, I saw the email at 10:00pm but responded that we would be there!Sunday at 11am came and past and David, their events coordinator, was a no show. At 11:15am he told his employee due to the fact he never heard back from me he decided not to show up at all even when I had given all my contact info with phone and email. I emailed David my disappointment and concerns about the whole scenario and never heard back or received any form of an apology. I've worked in the retail world my entire life. One thing I've learned, whether you like it or not, the customer is always right. I gave them the benefit of the doubt with a holiday weekend but two days have passed and still no response from them. Planterra is known for being a high end wedding venue and to blame the customer is inexcusable in my opinion. Easy to say we will not have our wedding there. read more

Planterra is beautiful! The space is truly unique and unlike any other venue I have experienced. I was there in September for a wedding and it was incredible. The service was great. If you want to wow guests this is the place to be. You don't need alot of extra decor because the venue itself is spectacular. I've been to this greenhouse 3 times and the knowledge of the help is spotty. I asked for suggestions of what kind of plant to put in front of my house and I asked how to take care of it to may sure it lasted thru the winter. I was told to just leave it outside-it can weather the cold. But alas, the plants died after following directions. When I came back the second time I was told just to cut them back and they would be fine. They weren't. When I returned the third time, I was told I fried the plants. They were supposed to be protected and wrapped in burlap during the winter. How was I supposed to know? They were going to give me 50% off a new plant but suggested it be repotted. Their pots are very heavy so I went to another greenhouse to get a lighter pot and was told this particular plant does not do well in the winter so I returned back to Planterra to pick out something else, assuming I would get a 50% discount due to the fact I was not instructed correcting what to do with this plant. All they were willing to do is give me my money back so now I spent $75 and am left with nothing. I have no plans to go back. read more
