I came here for the 1st time to attend their Christmas at the tail event. It's a nice event venue on the shore of the Detroit River. It's an older place, and you can tell by the architecture, it was built in the 50s. Anyways, they have the interior and exterior decorated very nice with lots of Christmas lights/decor. You can park in the lot or get valet parking which took sometime so be patient. Inside they scan your ticket and give you your table assignment which mine was upstairs. I was seated at a table with other people. They could have make better seating arrangements because siting at a table full of couples while coming solo was very awkward. Anyway, I went immediately to the buffet, after washing my hands of course. They had a pasta bar, a salad bar, a carving station, they had servers passing around hors d'oeuvers, a cookie decorating station... There was no way you left the venue hungry. That was all on the 2nd floor. On the 1st they had the same plus a shrimp cocktail station and a candy station, a traveling dumpling station, plus a Photo Booth... it's an older crowd mainly 30+. Welcome to The Tail! The Roostertail that is....got its name from the curtain of water created by propellers of racing boats zooming up & down the Detroit River. The Native Detroiter Magazine & Associates celebrated with their annual beautiful White Party Sunday this week at the Tail. The fashions were fashioning! The awards were awarding! The steppers were stepping! The singers were singing! The champagne bottles were popping all on this waterfront oasis on the Detroit River! The Roostertail has been a downtown Detroit staple since 1958. This year they celebrate their 65th Anniversary. This is a perfect venue for a large party to spread out from the main floor's glass-enclosed room to the outdoor options for party goers on both sides of the Roostertail. The floating dock down the boardwalk was complete with seating, swings and their own DJ. While the other side was perfect for the live stage performance by the Mary Jane Girls. There is even a second floor option complete with an open air balcony. The waterfront views were spectacular with perfect weather to take it all in! This was also a perfect location to capture the view of the sunset over Detroit. Note: Parking was self parking for $20. There was no valet option and limited handicap parking spots. read more

They have some fun events. In 2025, I went to yacht rock and Havana nights. Both were great, great people watching. My one big complaint about events at the rooster tail, which are run by a third-party is handicap parking. If a ticket holder has a handicap plate or placard, they should not be penalized and have to pay $60 to be in the main lot when that is the only lot available based on their situation. I would like to see more empathy and consideration on that front. read more

Our daughter's wedding ceremony and reception we're both held at The Roostertail on October 18. We are absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out. From the start, Shawna Peplinski, the lady who keeps the event humming like a well-oiled machine, was so sweet and gracious; I could see my daughter let go of a lot of her wedding jitters once she got to know Shawna. When it comes to event planning, Shawna has every base covered; she also knows every vendor in town worth knowing. It's uncanny how she's able to make the wishes of her clients appear just as they envisioned it, maybe even better! First, their outdoor deck, with the water and Belle Island as the backdrop for the ceremony, was just lovely. After the ceremony, our guests entered the gorgeous, mid-century modern lobby and ballroom. This place is the epitome of '50s-'60s chic. There was a recent round of upgrades and renovations, and let me tell you the whole place was gleaming. The maintenance crew have every inch detailed. The 180 degree view of the river, the soaring ceiling, and the decorations and flowers combined for a gorgeous setting. The Schoenith family has built and maintained The Roostertail as a kind of oasis, a stunning building with a commanding river view, and a staff of real professionals committed to maintaining the original high standards. The Schoeniths, Tom, Ava and Michael, and Shawna, have somehow kept the training of the staff to the same standard as when the place was a high-end nightclub. It's that good. The waitstaff was superb. They were also friendly, and extremely fast. Each table was served within minutes of each other, which was amazing. Empty plates were gone in seconds. These were professional waiters and waitresses. There were five bartenders, and they were absolute pros; many of the guests were asking for unusual or complicated drinks, and we watched as they whipped those drinks up as fast as if they were just mixing a Manhattan. I saw a lineup of guests the width of the bar and almost ten deep go down to three people in about ten minutes! And the food was incredible; the hors-d'oeuvres were creative, festive looking, and delicious. As for the dinner itself, I was told by many guests that they thought it was one of the best meals they ever had anywhere. In particular, the steaks were tender enough to be cut with a stern glance, lol. The colors of the vegetables were eye-popping fresh; really excellent prep and cooking. The plating was picture perfect, and everyone's dishes arrived hot. These are high-end chefs with a well-trained, well-timed kitchen staff. Desserts were incredible, and we overheard guests remark that the layout of the dessert table was maybe the most beautiful they had seen. It should also be mentioned that the sound quality of the ballroom was excellent. The architecture of the room lets the dance floor volume really thump, but there was moderate volume in the rest of the venue so people could talk. It was great, as was the lighting! The big takeaway for us was this: everyone we met or saw, from planning to execution, seemed like they were all on board with the mission of 100% hospitality. You noticed it in every employee smiling, moving fast, asking if there's anything more they can do. It's obvious that to maintain the sparkling look of the place, the quality of the food and the quality of the service, the Schoenith family and Shawna have assembled a crew of dedicated employees who share their love of giving people wonderful memories for a lifetime. read more

Edited after gathering more information. We attended the Havana Nights event at this venue. I will point out the good and bad of the venue itself and not the event. Parking - The event had to 'rent' parking, which arranged to charged attendees $15 per car. This notice was blasted to the attendees three times in the week prior to the event. At arrival, the VENUE charged $20 per car and told us " It is what it is, turn around and take it up with the organizer or pay the $20." This set a very poor tone to start the evening and come to find out, was completely the owner's decision to up the price on the attendees. We had arrived early and had exact bills for payment, as requested. The venue's parking attendants were very rude and didn't want to hear any questioning to the higher price. *after gathering more information about what happened, we were clearly ripped off by the venue in a money grab for parking revenue that the event secured separately. Facilities - The venue is beautiful though a bit dated and the air conditioning was cold, which was perfect for such a hot muggy evening. Great views of the river, amazing floating dock that was actually on the river with another DJ and dance floor. The outside patios were nicely shaded and plenty of room for dancing. The cigar patio was perfectly distanced from the dance floors but still offered great view of the river. My suggestion is to have mobile bars available on the main floor with proper setup for beverages - bartenders have to use tables and two liters which does not make for a classy event in any case. All in all a fine venue if the owner wasn't super shady. Personally, I will not consider this venue for any of my future events, however, at least I will know what we are walking into if we visit the Roostertail again. This is a review of the Havana Nights fundraiser for the Detroit Belle Isle Boathouse. It seems to be an annual event. The Roostertail is the perfect place for it. Lots of parking, 3 prices depending on how close to the building you are. I got the closet since the boat club gets a cut. Open space for lots of people and even different levels to spread out based on your level of ticket (I got the cheapest). A few bands or DJs, dance lessons, and even a 360 photo booth gave you other things to do besides drink and smoke cigars. Those with the cheap tickets had a few food trucks to buy a taste of the Caribbean. People selling jewelry, bath and body items, and a wonderful artist selling paintings, shoes and clothing. Just a good place to people watch and see how little some had to wear in public. I just choose to be 1950s classic with a twist. Plan to be back next year since it was fun and help a good cause. read more

I recently attended 2 party's here. This is definitely the nicest place to attend an event In Detroit! Yes the river views and sunset were amazing, but the food, the staff were even more incredible! They had a wide variety of delicious hor duerves, food stations with sliced meats, desert stations, full bar & any drink you can create!! They had photo shoots, live music on the main stage & a DJ upstairs!! Apparently the same family has run this premiere event space for 67 years & tons of famous people have been here. I learned that you can smaller events like weddings too. I went for a friend's company party & also atted a girlfriend's party! I wish I was invited to every party here! The food is Soo good!! And it's fun! There's an outside area when you get too hot from dancing, and did I mention all of the desserts!!! It's like Willy wonka!! Tons of cool displays, moving around its really unlike anything I've seen in the US.. it's the closest thing to heaven! Once you get passed the dated decor and the bird sh%t all over the windows overlooking the Detroit river, you'll see this place has potential. Was here for a wedding, and the ceremony was held outside with the river as the backdrop. Gorgeous. Once we were shuffled inside, I thought I was in a Miami Vice episode. I dug the retro theme, but some didn't. And was it retro intentional, or just actually from the late 80's or early 90's? The drinks were strong and the food was acceptable. What an excellent venue and experience!!!!! I worked with Nicole and secured the Club Room at the Roostertail for my baby shower (MLK weekend 2023). The contract was clear, the setup was a breeze and they worked with us when we thought that we would have to delay the event due to an unforeseen medical emergency! Excellent service! As for the event itself, the decor they provided was absolutely beautiful. I highly suggest the Club Room for an intimate space with gorgeous sunlit views! The food was INCREDIBLE. Everyone raved about the chicken, chef did his thing! Literally no complaints from beginning to end. We were able to share our prepared photo slideshow and our baby shower music playlist over the speakers. The bartender (non alcoholic) was very nice and we had space for a gorgeous candy table. Went for a retirement party tonight and it was beautiful. Decor is a bit outdated but the view is amazing. Service was wonderful too and the food was delicious. The Roosertail is one of the premiere venues for parties and receptions in Detroit. Despite many visits to Detroit, I'd never been there. They did not disappoint. The event consisted of dinner and dancing. We were bused over from our hotel and apparently arrived early. But it was a sunny, temperate day and we were able to step out and catch the breeze off of the Detroit river. Let's talk about the river. The river is why the Roostertail is best restaurant and reception center in Detroit. The hall provides beautiful views of the lake. At dark the fountains appear. Once underway the service was fast. The surf and turf meal was good, not great. And there was a dessert bar from which I found tasty key lime pie. There were some logistical set ups, that slowed things down. What a lovely venue! The views of the water are amazing, the lit up water fountain is beautiful, I really like the set-up, and the food is delicious! Particularly, this roast pork dish served with a buttery, sweet apple sauce and Michigan salad. Perfect. The way the stage is set up, the lit up fountain sprays behind it beyond the glass, so it makes for a very nice show. The patio outside is great if you want to escape the party a bit; it's lit with pretty lights and the breeze off the river is really nice. I've been here for several occasions over the years, and it's always been a great time. Plenty of parking, beautiful, spacious bathrooms, lots of space while still feeling intimate. We hosted our "In the Clouds" Prom at the Roostertail this year. From start to finish, Nicole worked with our staff every step of the way. She was extremely responsive and truly helped us make this Prom dream a reality for the Class of 2024. On the day of Prom, every single staff member there went above and beyond. They understood our theme and made sure to decorate the event space accordingly...from the blue tablecloths, to the bubbles, to the haze, to the blue and white trees, and hanging ceiling decor, it truly felt like we were in the clouds. The Roostertail blew us away with various surprises throughout the night that made the Prom an unforgettable one. What a fantastic venue for events! I've been here quite a few times over the years and it's so great to finally be back to enjoying life! The Roostertail is huge and I love the view of the Detroit River from the various levels. Most recently, I attended the Havana Nights Charity gala and it was spectacular. We danced the night away, smoked a few cigars, drank mojito, lost some money gambling, and met some pretty awesome people. Being such a large space and to accommodate so many people, live entertainment was set up in various areas inside and outside tents. I was also impressed by the amount of bars scattered around the property to accommodate guests. I don't think I've danced that much in such a long time. I can't wait till next year to do it all over again. If you haven't been to a Roostertail event you have been missing out. read more

It's weird that you could live so close to a place for over 3 years and have no idea about it. Right next to a marina, Roostertail hosted this year's Metro Times best of Detroit party. Metro Times gave a few free tickets to yelp elite members and luckily I was among the one chosen. My first yelp event! For public, $35 general admission came w free food and 5 drink tickets and $55 for VIP tickets which comes w perks and more drinks. The venue was quite large, enough to hold at least 300 people in the small outdoor and 2 party areas. Numerous large windows and patio area on 2nd floor were ideal to enjoy the river view and the venue location is quite ideal for watching the boat show. The event was a great success with the venue at near max capacity. There were 20 + restaurants provided food for the event, each with their own booth. I came with a large appetite and determination to sample all the food. It was A LOT, but thankfully, I can eat. The wait staff at roostertail was pretty efficient. But, they got pretty overwhelmed when the party started hitting its stride and empty plates and food scraps started piling up on the tables and garbage areas. The bartenders made a decently strong drinks and there were a few to minimize lines. The band and dj did a good job to keep the party fun and lively and with drinks and food flowing, it got better as night went on. Food ranged from almost inedible to good. Some were fairly delicious. It was evident food quality suffered from prolonged warming of the food, some(like fried food) more than others. So, it wouldn't be fair to judge the restaurants based on the food I sampled. Or to base rating of roostertail on food. So, I will just talk briefly about more memorable food I sampled. Brome: lobster cake slider mostly tasted of tartar sauce and taste of lobster was absent. Fried chicken slider wasn't crispy and chicken pieces were too large. Buns weren't the greatest. I reviewed this restaurant before not so favorably, so I wasn't surprised. Mr. Miguel: I actually really enjoyed their nachos. Their queso and pica de gallo paired well to bring a refreshing and cheesy bite. Good menu choice for the event since these keep well. Nomad grill: flank steak wasn't very well seasoned and a bit tough, but mango salsa was quite well done to mask the dish's flaw. Corn tortilla was a bit mealy. Novi chophouse: why they put coney chili on steak bruschetta, I have no idea. Overpowered taste of tenderloin completely. Beans and cornbread: I enjoyed their collard greens. It had a good flavor and a kick with a decent texture. Would have liked more of a bite on the greens. The fried catfish may have been good once, but it was dry and the breading was soggy. Aventura: good finger foods. Caprese has a nice flavor and fun to eat. Would have liked heirloom mini tomatoes on the caprese tho. American Coney Island: good as always. There was another Coney Island called national that I couldn't get past 2 bites. Kahiki foods: i don't remember if I've ever had frozen egg rolls, but after eating theirs, I will most likely never buy one. read more
