I've heard good things about Thunderbird, I'm just not in this area very often. I love that it's a very vegan friendly restaurant/bar! I mean when I first started looking at the menu, all the vegan options were listed first! And it was a lot of options! Then the meat for those who eat meat. Something for everyone. So many options, I started feeling overwhelmed. I ended up getting a sandwich with soy curls, don't remember what it was called, but it was delicious! The bartender was super friendly! He's a Virgo like me! (I happen to walk up to the bar when he and a customer were talking about their signs) I loved the ambiance of this place. While waiting for my food, I walked around, and it's super cool! I saw a pool table. I went out a door and got to see the super cool patio! I definitely want to come back and explore the other menu items! read more

Cute! Delicious vegan and meat food options! What's more to love? The bartenders were super nice. There's a tv at the bar if you want to watch some sports and otherwise this is a chill local spot. Plenty of seating. I will definitely come back here for the vegan Cesar salad. I eat dairy and this one is even better than the real dairy thing. My friend got to chicken wrap with fries and it came with some awesome dipping sauce. I love when a bar has healthy and indulgent food options, thank you Thunderbird for that! read more

The outside is deceiving. When you walk inside it's such a chill vibe and aesthetic. Clean and elevated styling for what seems like a whole in the wall. I went at a rather off time in the middle of the day after finishing classes. The menu is extremely vegan friendly more so than anything else, but everyone can enjoy something. The fries were perfectly cooked not greasy or stale tasting, the sauce they served it with was very good and creamy. The wrap was fresh and the chkn inside was delish, kale was fresh and crisp. The price was just right $12. I did not have any drinks but they had alcoholic slushies (duh) and they looked pretty appetizing. The bartender was friendly and helpful. Looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

Great vibes at this place, any location that is covered in plants and weird paintings has my vote. The main draw is that they have a decent mix of Vegan and Non-vegan options, which makes accommodating large groups easy. Pretty busy, but it was also a Friday night. Although the line to order at the bar can be long, they have multiple bartenders so it goes through pretty quickly. I didn't have any drinks so I can't really speak to that. But my wife and some of our friends did have their Impala cocktail, and really enjoyed it. I got the chicken sandwich and it was surprisingly good. Often times you can get really dry grilled chicken, but it was fantastic here. Plus avocado with tomatoes and onions is always a solid combination of richness and acidity. The only thing I felt could be improved on were the sweet potato fries. Good thickness to them, but the fry wasn't even, so some were almost burnt. read more

So a group of 4 of us went to Thunderbird on a Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. The inside was low lighting, music playing, lots of seating. We sat outside where there were heaters on timers so it never got uncomfortably warm and didn't stay too cold for long. Now for my favorite part, the food! You order your food and drinks at the bar and a server will bring it to your table. I ordered the Brussels Bowl which had kale, rice, BBQ tofu, and brussel sprouts. It was a beautiful bowl full of great flavor. My husband ordered the TBird Vegan Philly made with impossible crumbles. It looked really good and he enjoyed it. We also ordered the Smash Impossible Sliders - grilled onions, thunder sauce and vegan cheddar. The non vegan items that were ordered: Smoke Stack Burger Foster Rd. Burger Onion Rings with Srirancha I recommend for anyone looking for a bar with meat and veggie options. Perfect place to bring friends or a date! read more

Always enjoy stopping here for drinks, but this was my first time eating. Chicken Caesar wrap, standard food item right, but damnnnn it was delicious! The dressing tasted homemade and the chicken was juicy and not overcooked. Will definitely eat here again. read more

Servers are patient, courteous and conscientious. When one must wait for service, it's just about always due to high volume of previous orders and/or large orders. The servers are rarely idle. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed. read more

This food has got to be the closest thing to garbage that I've ever eaten. I ordered the impossible smash burger and my husband had the wings. The burger had the consistency of mush and fell completely apart. The bun was beat up and gross right out of the wrapper. You could literally barely squeeze the patty in your hand and have a sticky blob, I'm not sure how they are serving this to customers. I didn't have a wing but my husband didn't finish and said they weren't good either. They were swimming in a gross gravy. I'll never go back. read more

Excellent food with a wide range of mean and vegan options. Bar atmosphere and staff are among the best in Portland. I'd recommend this bar to anyone no matter how far away it is. read more

Best vegan and non vegan friendly bar in Portland! My husband and I are obsessed. The onion rings are vegan and fire

The people remember your drinks, we love their gluten free bread they get from next door. We have tried many of their dishes, all were excellent. I have 1 exception and that the Cesar salad has raw kale. As a personal preference the salad should have romaine. The kale is too tough to eat. Others perhaps may love it. Sweet potatoes, tots, fries or a salad to go with you meal, how could you go wrong? read more

Their food is so good and the prices are really reasonable. They have so many vegan options and a few that are not vegan. Their sauces are handmade and delicious! Whenever I'm in their the staff that drop your food off are so nice and always ask if you need anything else. They have a beautiful space with lots of plants and the option for outdoor seating. Although parking in the neighborhood is a little tough, it's worth the short walk for the great food and overall vibe! read more

I've been here a few times and love this place! I'm familiar with their bar group and always know I'll have tasty food and solid drink options especially for a good dry cider. Staff and environment were nice. Ordered the volcano bowl and vegan chicken sliders and the food was sad. :( French fries were good. The soy curls tasted unseasoned and uninspired. It's been a year since I've eaten here, and I don't remember the food having an issue. Not sure that I'll be back unless it's just for a drink. read more

Yes, A great place that is open during the day on Monday. It was a little quiet when we arrived, but we told the guy at the bar we had only 40 minutes. He said "no problem," and true to his word we were in and out in 40 minutes. The other great thing is they offer Happy Hour 12PM to 5PM Monday through Friday, so even more reason to go mid-day. We ordered two things from the Happy Hour menu; brussel sprouts and my husband had the Vegan BLT. Both were delicious. I also appreciated that they had fun mocktails. as I currently can't drink and am getting bored of water and tea. I would like to return when I can drink as they have a great cocktail menu. read more

Here for the first time today and a Great Lunch! 3 folks enjoyed outstanding vegan sandwiches and a wrap, super good fries, and all reasonably priced. I enjoyed the real meat Foster Burger cooked to perfection!!! Service from the gal at the bar polite and professional. The restaurant was clean, nice music and all round good vibe. First visit to the Thunderbird for me, though it had been on my radar for a while. Did lunch and food was good, ambience was good, and I enjoyed the venue. It was not busy. One man was working the bar and serving. An individual in the back was cooking. Took a look at the outdoor seating which looked inviting. Was too chilly to sit outside that day, unfortunately. Definitely dive vibe - which I like. Will look forward to a return visit. read more

A great spot on Foster to take your veggie and vegan pals. Their tofu is cooked perfectly and the sweet potato fries are delightfully crispy. Friendly bartenders that make a clever cocktail. Can get busy but food seems to come out fast. Great patio in the summer time too! read more

As a vegan celiacer who typically can never eat out because it is unsafe and some kind of cross-contamination will inevitably occur: Thunderbird is one of the best. I love the Berkeley Salad but it's all scrumptious. And you can bring your meat-eating friends, too! Thunderbird deserves special kudos for their sweet potato fries as well. They are thick! None of those shoe strings that just flop and mush! And the most gently crisped exterior. No soggy crap. Just phenomenal. Service is always attentive and helpful. A genuinely pleasant place to hang, eat, and drink! read more

What a cute place with FREE pool! I was surprising shocked when a friend asked me to meet her at her local bar. The atmosphere inside was adorable with odd amazing art. They have a gray pool table and the bar is fully stocked. I enjoyed their frozen froze which was delicious. Off of the food menu I ordered their Brussel sprouts and sweet potato fries. I have to say they were delicious. I'm not a vegan but there were so many vegan options available. It's rare to find a good bar with great drinks and food. I wish I lived closer because this would totally be my go to bar. read more

What's the word? THUNDERBIRD!! If ya know, ya know. Now I'm not sure if they serve up the classic bumwine here but the drinks they do serve up are pretty fantastic. I found this place after seeing that White Owl Social Club kicked their Vegan menu to the curb. Thunderbird is the exact opposite. Their menu is "95% vegan and vegetarian, and 5% for meat-eaters, we are 100% for everyone. With food so good, how can you argue otherwise? We ordered the Kale Caesar and Philly Cheesesteak. The Caesar was fine, maybe could've used more dressing but the star was the Impossible in the Cheesesteak. I suppose it's more of a chopped cheese but I'm not a snob and this was fucking good! I swear by Jay's in San Francisco and this puts them to shame! Flavors of Vegan cheese, Impossible, peppers, perfect bread all come together perfectly. One of the best things I've eaten in Portland! As for the drinks, yours truly finally got to try a couple of sours that are normally made with egg whites. They use aquafaba over here. Turns out, I'm a fan of chickpea juice in my whiskey cocktails. Who knew that could work so well? At $9 it's not too much to ask for an exquisitely crafted cocktail. Might just be my new favorite bar in Portland! read more

Thinderbird Bar is one of my favorite places to go with Humam T. The 1st thing I is ask is what the featured cake of the day is. And then I order it! Before I get a drink or have dinner. I like to order the Impossible Burger vegan sliders. The chef does some tricky magic with the seasonings, and they are super tasty. If we're not sharing fries, I like to get tots with ketchup and vegan ranch. The vegan ranch is yum! The atmosphere is so super cool and chill... I was hoping I would hear Maxwell's "Ascension" tonight. Thanx Nate and staff for the best service, food, and cake! We're really hoping our kids come to visit soon, so we can bring them here :) read more

I was quite impressed with the way Thunderbird handled our large group that came in yesterday for an early dinner and some drinks. I was worried about them taking 15 orders at once, but they nailed it. Our food came out much quicker than I expected, and they got everything right. The "chick'n" sliders I had were tasty and well presented, and the fries were crispy (but it obviously wasn't real meat). Most of their offerings are geared toward vegan / vegetarian preferences, but they do still have a few actual meat options for the larger burgers. Would have been nice to have a few more meat options, actually. For vegan bar food, this was good stuff, and the service was spot on. Very impressed. read more

Came in for a couple beers, but already ate dinner, so was in no mood for food (but everything that went by smelled great). Music at just the right volume (loud enough but not too loud), and good vibe from the crowd. Beer was a good selection and tasty. We really came for the pool table, which was a massive win: only one table, but it was free, and no one else seemed interested in playing. All in all, just the fun hang out we were hoping for. read more

The food was stellar and the ambiance was super too. Love the back patio too. As someone who is a social smoker, I'm glad they have room for us. I love this place! I have tried their traditional cocktails, as well as gotten their Non-Alcoholic (NA Cocktails) and they hit the spot. Every single food item I have ordered from Thunderbird has been so delicious! I usually don't like veggie burgers, or any sort of sandwich because the bread or bun is a little too much for me. I am not gluten free or anything, but I tried something new the other day and ordered their sliders! They use buns from the Vietnamese Bakery next door (!!!). An Xuyen Bakery is the lot to the SouthEast from Thunderbird. My husband and I have ordered the sweet potato fries pretty much everytime we go, and it is nice to have so many vegetarian options in one place. Additionally, it is nice to have late-night eating available that is open past 8pm with real food! We lived in Hillsboro in 2020, and there was rarely any food options open that late, you either had to drive 45 minutes to go to town, eat cereal or wait 'til the next day. So, it is nice to have something so close to where we live with great food options open late. And, there slushies on Sunday is a great option regardless of what the weather is outside. read more
