The Throgs Neck Bridge is a suspension bridge in New York City, carrying six lanes of Interstate 295 (I-295) over the East River where it meets the Long Island Sound. The bridge connects the Throgs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bay Terrace section of Queens. The Throgs Neck Bridge is a six lane suspension bridge, with three in each direction. It's a toll road that opened about 63 years ago. It connects the boroughs of Queens to the south and the Bronx to the north. I love to look at and photograph bridges from underneath, up close or even from a distance. I am like my mother in that I'm not fond of traveling over them. I didn't mind as much when I was younger and doing the driving. I did always attempt to get on and off quickly! There's no doubt about the convenience of this bridge. Truthfully I don't remember the last time I crossed this bridge!

I once traveled over the Throgs Neck bridge often when I had a business career located in the Bronx County. From what I read; the Throgs Neck bridge construction integrity was good for a hundred years when built and operational in 1961. I have a knowledgeable background in civil engineering, and I do know that bridges are periodically inspected for construction integrity. We are all should believe that Throgs Neck Bridge is a safe place to travel. I did learn some added information about the Throgs Neck Bridge in writing this Yelp review. I read that the bridge name was derived by John Throckmorton who first settled in Throggs Neck. Throggs with two g's is the traditional correct spelling. History states that Robert Moses who was chairperson of the Triborough Bridges and Tunnel Authority chose it with one "g" because it was easier to spell. Throggs with two g's is the traditional correct spelling. Thanks to modern technology, we all can cross bridges or tunnels without waiting in an extensive line to pay the toll. That should relieve stress on the bridge, just my sense of humor.

Always heavy traffic in this area. Nice bridge and great route getting in and out of Long Island.

One of three bridges for crossing the East River that separates Queens from the Bronx (the others are the Whitestone Bridge https://www.yelp.com/biz/bronx-whitestone-bridge-bronx-2?uid=hWDybu_KvYLSdEFzGrniTw and the Triborough / Robert F. Kennedy Bridge https://www.yelp.com/biz/robert-f-kennedy-bridge-new-york?uid=hWDybu_KvYLSdEFzGrniTw), the Throgs Neck Bridge is the eastern most and carries the most traffic from Long Island and heading towards New England or across Manhattan towards the George Washington Bridge https://www.yelp.com/biz/george-washington-bridge-new-york?uid=hWDybu_KvYLSdEFzGrniTw and New Jersey. The Throgs Neck Bridge was designed by structural engineer Othmar Ammann, who also designed the George Washington, Bronx-Whitestone, Verrazzano-Narrows https://www.yelp.com/biz/verrazzano-narrows-bridge-staten-island?hrid=67vBSxyPQsuP7FDQrptq5A, and Kennedy Bridges. It is a suspension bridge with a total length of 2910 feet and cost $92,000,000 when it opened on January 11, 1961. Three lanes in each direction with a center divider. There is absolutely no pedestrian or bicycle access. For me with a non-New York toll transponder, my cost to cross the bridge was a whopping $10.17. New Yorkers with an E-Z pass are discounted to $6.55. With an estimated daily traffic of 120,000 vehicles, the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority https://www.yelp.com/biz/triborough-bridge-and-tunnel-authority-bronx?hrid=iLWchavnqNr67ASRd-Rcwg is taking in about a million dollars a day in tolls. Yowza! [Review 15340 overall, 842 of 2021, number 224 in New York.]

The Throgs Neck Bridge is a suspension Bridge in New York City that connects the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx with the Bay Terrace section of Queens. I'm not sure why the second 'g' is dropped but it's probably a New York Thing so I won't ask. This Bridge carries six lanes of interstate 295 [I- 95] over the East River where it meets Long Island Sound.   It's the newest Bridge across the East River [built in 1961] and its sole purpose is to relieve traffic on the Bronx - Whitestone Bridge. The Throgs Neck Bridge is the furthest east crossing of the East River making it the closest route from Long Island to New Jersey via the George Washington Bridge.   Total length is 2,910 feet and it's longest span is 1,800 feet. Total daily traffic that the Bridge sees is approximately 131,350 as of 11/19/18. But if you've ever been stuck in traffic here it definitely seems like ALOT More.   Othmar Ammann was the Bridge's Designer and Chief Structural Engineer, who also designed the George Washington, Bronx - Whitestone, Verrazzano- Narrows, and Triborough Bridges.

"Throgs Neck Bridge" is a beautiful bridge. It represents freedom to me. It's a way out of the City and onwards to the rest of the states. It's also the best way to the I-95. I use to ride this bridge a lot in my younger years. My family and I would vacation in Jersey so often. The "Throgs Neck Bridge" was always part of the journey. It's light color and tall pilar's remind me of the Statue of Liberty reaching high into the sky. I love New York and a big part of the many sight you will see are bridges. The "Throgs Neck Bridge" is a part of the make up of New York.

    Never bump in to traffic

No problem with this bridge is fast and easy to get around, I have never had any problems with traffic. This is a suspension bridge I'm not sure why they call it like that if any one knows please send me a message and let me know or reply back on this post. This bridge was opened on January 11, 1961. Its long and beautiful Every time i cross this bridge i feel like bungee jumping.

even though they went to cashless tolling there is still a lot of bottlenecking, hope once all the construction is over it will alleviate.

I am very interested in my father's upbringing, and wanted to see his neighborhood, as well as important personal landmarks. Several people- including other local tour guides, told me this neighborhood was too dangerous and I should do something else with my time. Joe met me at my hotel, and we took the subway together to the old neighborhood. Not only did Joe make me feel safe, he was friendly, knowledgeable, and prepared. He brought pictures of special landmarks, like my father's apartment building (which no longer exists) and my father's favorite candy shop, which has been a bodega for decades. He was also able to tell me a great deal about the history of the neighborhood. I strongly recommend Joe to anyone looking for a tour guide.

One of my favorite elements are the working lights on the inside left and right of the pool sculpture. Being that it's out of context - a recreational object in the middle of a commercial center - it creates a sense of longing and desire for recreation over industry and gives you an off-kilter feeling (why am I going to work when I could be swimming!).
