Kennedy Bridge (aka RFK Bridge) post 2008 cost a extortionate price $4 million for signage, which fellow Yelper Phil H., factually with accuracy stated the absurdity money spent. I adamantly concur with Phil H. What about the tormenting plaguing problem of inflation impacting the high cost of food for groceries, rent, living expenses including health care? Can then NY Governor David A. Paterson understand our hardship and utter struggle to live? To survive to live is a Sisyphean task. I am exuberant that David A. Paterson completed his term as 55th NYS governor to get the boot removed from office. I personally prefer the old name because it intuitively describes how it connects three boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens) as a Y-shaped bridge of elevated highway viaduct. There are three bridges that comprises the Triborough Bridge: East River Suspension Bridge - 8 lanes of I-278 (Bronx and Queens spans) Harlem River Lift Bridge - 6 lanes of NYS Route 900G (NY 900G) Bronx Kills Through Truss Bridge - 8 lanes of I-278 connects the Bronx with Randalls Island I was once fortunate that a colleague drove me all the way home from Bronx to Queens. At long last, I did not have to endure the tormenting MTA NYC Transit subway. Vehicle traffic did move moderately without any delays or impediments. There were no pothole seen. As a lifelong passenger, to me, the seen of Triborough Bridge is smooth and efficient to drive because of its cashless toll system rendered since 2017 with cameras and RFID readers. Toll rates as of January 4, 2026: NY E-ZPass: $7.46 Mid-Tier: $9.79 Tolls by mail, non-NY E-ZPass: $12.03

Outside of this, as a walker who has walked very long distances, this is my least favorite bridge in the city for two very good reasons. First off, the barriers on the side are very low compared to any of the more popular bridges people walk on. I'm not sure if it's because fewer tourists go here, or because fewer people have "climbed," for lack of better words, but I find the side of the bridge a bit dizzying. It's probably a combination of both, but I hug the other side where you loudly hear the ton of cars passing by. In groups, I walk in front and quickly speed walk over whatever part we are doing. It's also an incredibly narrow bridge, making the narrow walking paths of the GWB or the old one on the Queensboro/59th Street look wide by comparison. You'll still get bikes on there, and I have almost gotten into an accident once or twice. It's nice to have a bridge that leads to this many places, but I hate it.

Built in 1955 its actually called Welfare Island Bridge as the island at that time served a different purpose, and was not what it is today. As an all steel bridge it won an award at that time. The name was changed in 1973. The bridge itself is small and only takes a few minutes to cross. There is a pedestrian only pathway, and a bike path which shares the road along it. On the island side it connects to a parking garage and supermarket. Not much vehicle traffic seems to cross the bridge which makes it a nice trip. It's also a vertical lift bridge that is only used for times when specific larger boats cross this channel of the East River, or for security purposes when the UN is in session and the west channel is closed.

Ugh The Hutchinson…read moreRiver Parkway (aka the Hutch) is a ~19 mile parkway which starts at the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx and stretches up to the Connecticut border in Rye Brook, Westchester county (where it then turns into the Merritt Parkway). I have a love-hate relationship with the Hutch. On one hand, it's the closest highway to where I live and I can easily access it to travel to Westchester or Queens. It truly is a convenience in some ways because a lot of my go-to places for errands and such are right off the parkway. The roads are well maintained and it has a lot of connecting highways. On the other hand, the Hutch is a pain to deal with. To start, the Hutch is only two lanes wide (with the exception of a few patches where it expands to three) which can lead to traffic even if there's a slight hiccup on the road. There is almost ALWAYS traffic going northbound up to exit 13 (the exit that leads you to the Cross County, Bronx River, Sprain Brook, and Saw Mill River Parkways). I can almost put money on the fact that there will be traffic on the Hutch from exits 7 to 13 at any time of the day. Finally, because the Hutch is a parkway, it's for passenger cars only; there are low clearance underpasses that are designed only for cars to fit under. This however won't stop the occasional tractor-trailer from galloping onto the Hutch and trying to fit under the underpasses. Not only does this destroy the tractor-trailer, it creates a boatload of traffic. Do I complain about the Hutch? Yes. Will I continue to travel on the Hutch? Yes! It's too much of a convenience - if I'm really in a bind I'll take side roads or 95, but even with its faults the Hutch is too convenient for me to avoid all together *sigh*.

Entering Holland Tunnel we drove into New Jersey state towards Piscataway, NJ to laid my beloved family member to rest. The ride was smooth without any bumps and has nice visual scenic views of NY and NJ landscape. I give credence to the name "The Skyway" for the scenic view. Our funeral driver appeared very experienced with directional compass finder and locations. Fortunately traffic segue moderately for a Friday afternoon of January 2022 as our funeral car hearse err on the side of caution carrying a body in a casket. There's a need for road comprehension and reconditioning here in Brooklyn on Ocean Avenue. What I…read morefind to be quite peculiar is that Coney Island Ave, running just three blocks parallel -- doesn't suffer from most of these boneheaded road fumbles. Perhaps it wasn't in the DMVs playbook and nobody wanted to tell you, well, I'm here to tell you. Open those eyes, scan front and back on occasion -- flashing lights approaching? Move away from the lane that said flashing lights is bearing down upon you within. Maybe it's a coffee run, maybe granny is about to kick the bucket -- whatever the case, know how to move forward, to the side, anything but freeze in complete panic as emergency vehicles run this strip all day -- I can't speak for the night tho, it's gotta be worse. The Jewish people are not the world's greatest drivers so I am pointing the guilty end of the pointer at they, them and theirs. For such a smart people, the flat and straight road should be an easy go -- but it aint, it's anything but. Those are the drivers, here is the road. Three well marked lanes although a bit narrow with a hungry grumpy passenger side curb that'll take a bite or take a swipe at your rubber if you veer too close, you can feel their cement snarls. And above that hazzard is the pretty swaying low hanging trees that will tickle your high top roof and swat at your antenna bending it like a backwards 'C' -- followed by the full force "thwaaaang" release, hence, large vehicles stay left. But the absolute worst part of driving this beautifully and fictitiously named avenue (where's the ocean anyway?) is the I'll fated traffic light synchronizer, a true momentum killer. If your not Mario Andretti in a Formula 1 racecar, you'll chug along -- make one light, wait at the next, make one light and wait at the next. I'm watching little kids on 2 wheeled scooters passing me on the sidewalk like I'm standing still. I might abandon the new rig and join their merry band of light free bobbers and weevers because it looks like so much fun.
