Can then NY Governor David A. Paterson understand our hardship and utter struggle to live? To survive to live is a Sisyphean task. I am exuberant that David A. Paterson completed his term as 55th NYS governor to get the boot removed from office. I personally prefer the old name because it intuitively describes how it connects three boroughs (Manhattan, Bronx, and Queens) as a Y-shaped bridge of elevated highway viaduct. There are three bridges that comprises the Triborough Bridge: East River Suspension Bridge - 8 lanes of I-278 (Bronx and Queens spans) Harlem River Lift Bridge - 6 lanes of NYS Route 900G (NY 900G) Bronx Kills Through Truss Bridge - 8 lanes of I-278 connects the Bronx with Randalls Island I was once fortunate that a colleague drove me all the way home from Bronx to Queens. At long last, I did not have to endure the tormenting MTA NYC Transit subway. Vehicle traffic did move moderately without any delays or impediments. There were no pothole seen. As a lifelong passenger, to me, the seen of Triborough Bridge is smooth and efficient to drive because of its cashless toll system rendered since 2017 with cameras and RFID readers. Outside of this, as a walker who has walked very long distances, this is my least favorite bridge in the city for two very good reasons. First off, the barriers on the side are very low compared to any of the more popular bridges people walk on. I'm not sure if it's because fewer tourists go here, or because fewer people have "climbed," for lack of better words, but I find the side of the bridge a bit dizzying. It's probably a combination of both, but I hug the other side where you loudly hear the ton of cars passing by. In groups, I walk in front and quickly speed walk over whatever part we are doing. It's also an incredibly narrow bridge, making the narrow walking paths of the GWB or the old one on the Queensboro/59th Street look wide by comparison. You'll still get bikes on there, and I have almost gotten into an accident once or twice. It's nice to have a bridge that leads to this many places, but I hate it.

Ugh The Hutchinson…read moreRiver Parkway (aka the Hutch) is a ~19 mile parkway which starts at the Whitestone Bridge in the Bronx and stretches up to the Connecticut border in Rye Brook, Westchester county (where it then turns into the Merritt Parkway). I have a love-hate relationship with the Hutch. On one hand, it's the closest highway to where I live and I can easily access it to travel to Westchester or Queens. It truly is a convenience in some ways because a lot of my go-to places for errands and such are right off the parkway. The roads are well maintained and it has a lot of connecting highways. On the other hand, the Hutch is a pain to deal with. To start, the Hutch is only two lanes wide (with the exception of a few patches where it expands to three) which can lead to traffic even if there's a slight hiccup on the road. There is almost ALWAYS traffic going northbound up to exit 13 (the exit that leads you to the Cross County, Bronx River, Sprain Brook, and Saw Mill River Parkways). I can almost put money on the fact that there will be traffic on the Hutch from exits 7 to 13 at any time of the day. Finally, because the Hutch is a parkway, it's for passenger cars only; there are low clearance underpasses that are designed only for cars to fit under. This however won't stop the occasional tractor-trailer from galloping onto the Hutch and trying to fit under the underpasses. Not only does this destroy the tractor-trailer, it creates a boatload of traffic. Do I complain about the Hutch? Yes. Will I continue to travel on the Hutch? Yes! It's too much of a convenience - if I'm really in a bind I'll take side roads or 95, but even with its faults the Hutch is too convenient for me to avoid all together *sigh*.

During my run today I had a chance to cross over the Roosevelt Island Bridge to Queens and back…read more It's an interesting bridge with cool structure and terrific views of Queens and Manhattan. Built in 1955 its actually called Welfare Island Bridge as the island at that time served a different purpose, and was not what it is today. As an all steel bridge it won an award at that time. The name was changed in 1973. The bridge itself is small and only takes a few minutes to cross. There is a pedestrian only pathway, and a bike path which shares the road along it. On the island side it connects to a parking garage and supermarket. Not much vehicle traffic seems to cross the bridge which makes it a nice trip. It's also a vertical lift bridge that is only used for times when specific larger boats cross this channel of the East River, or for security purposes when the UN is in session and the west channel is closed.

Maybe it's the most scenic of all. There's a vantage point but you have to get around the trees to get a good look. It only is a small bridge. Located at the very tip top of the Borough of Manhattan. There's also the Spuyten Duyvil Creek which the bridge goes over. It's one of the few bridges in New York that you can't walk across. The only way is to take a MetroNorth train. An overlook point in Fort Tryon Park is good for some pictures. The bad thing is there's lots of trees in the way. It's worth going to just because of the area. The park is nice and quiet. Get on a MetroNorth train to go over the actual bridge. It has a good view of the Bronx from the other side. The overlook has some good views.

It's a special and it's beautiful structire, and it will actually tilt and twist sideways so boats can go through. Awesome right? My train stopped here once, next to this bridge. A long time ago. That was my first experience of it and I've been in love with it since.

Your mood and energy changes instantly, at least mine did. Three double-lane tubes make up the tunnels. The middle tube's lanes are contra-flowed depending on traffic. FACT: I was wondering why on the NJ side there are 3 visible tunnel opening but only 2 on the NY side. Turns out, the north tunnel in NY has a separate opening a block away from the middle & south tunnels.

Not only does this bridge have interesting history, but it's rumored that after man kind collapses, this bridge will still be standing. It's an architectural marvel. It still services Amtrak trains. This bridge can be accessed by two primary ways--from Astoria Park and Randall's Island park. Randall's island offers better photo ops and a new and beautiful walking path, but the Astoria side is pretty as well, and has easy access to the tasty ethnic eateries of Astoria. Both spots have good parking, but Randall's Island probably offers more. Look this bridge up, learn about it, and go see it. It'll be a nice day out for a walk, people watching, photo snapping.

I go up to the top floor of my building during bad weather days. I sometimes take another photo. I have photos in different seasons. When I have guests the view of the bridge from Manhattan is on my neighborhood tour. Some day I may get up close. This historical location of the East River is very cool. I look out and feel the excitement knowing the spirits are probably lurking nearby. I'm weird like that. Read the stories of Hell Gate. You'll see what I mean.
