The only other one of two ways to get onto the island of Manhattan from the west. It is almost always congested. After going through the tolls cars, buses, taxis and trucks scramble in and out of lanes to jockey for position. There is no regard for orderly fashion until you actually meet the mouth of the tunnel because only then are you forced to fall in line. The space is dim and tight. A two lane under water funnel that spits you out into the heart of the theater district. You have to stay alert and get your game plan together quickly once your out of there because that was simply a pre game to driving in New York City. read more

Not to be confused with the Carpal Tunnel (which is more painful). Since Biden's inauguration remarks evoked Abraham himself, I thought I'd review his tunnel namesake... which can be a bit of a nightmare if you don't have Stallone to bust you out of it. On one hand the tunnels are amazing because they'll get you swiftly and effortlessly from Manhattan to Jersey or vice versa. On the other hand they are now charging $15 (yes I said that and yes it's true and will go up at some point), and sometimes traffic is so bad getting in here that you can wait for two hours to get inside, and sometimes get stuck inside the tunnel and that's awful. And don't ever open your windows down here or you'll pass out from pollution. It's just bad. So mixed feelings, but thank goodness these tunnels exist and once you get into them you're usually nearly there. It loses a star for how hard it can be to access, though. I was able to get through the tunnel ti NJ pretty fast. The entrance on Manhattan's side is currently undergoing more construction that they closed off the street turn from 10th aveand now its the first turn not the second. This was a bit confusing as the Waze map still had the second turn on even though it was closed off. read more

In a normal year gridlock, carcinogens and hypertension rule the 1.5 mile passage under the Hudson River but when you consider the alternatives, namely drowning or swimming as a means to enter or escape Manhattan, nothing beats the Lincoln Tunnel. As a matter of fact, it's hard to fathom the miracle of engineering that it took to blast through the bedrock at 95 feet down and the 24 brave souls that expired in the endeavor. The $1.7B tunnel (in today's dollars) was only built for half the volume, is easily taken for granted and could use a massive scrubbing but considering the stress it both causes and endures, it's a marvel in any century and at $16RT, it's still a bargain read more

My Mother had a very strange fear of bridges. For me bridges became scarier as I grew older. It's the knowledge I have of how little is funding quality assurance and safety. So now you understand why I have a fear going through the Lincoln Tunnel. When I see the tunnel up ahead I am in awe of the workmanship that went into the building of this necessity. But is it maintained? It's definitely a complicated mass of vehicles converging into the tunnel. It amazes me how we all enter and exit gracefully. You will not see photos from me. I'm usually riding on a bus. As soon as we enter the tunnel I either close my eyes or look straight ahead in anticipation of the sky. If I look sideways and see how we are nearly touching the vehicles in the next lane I panic! So there you have my heartfelt review. New Jersey to New York connection...well this is your bridge. When you realize you have to go through this bridge during rush hour...just realize it could be a breeze or it could be a BIG pain in your behind! I have been stuck in traffic in this bridge for almost a hour before. So have patience when being directed this way. The cool fact is you are going under the Hudson River when you cross this bridge..oh and you don't get wet at all!! =). The toll of you aren't a bus is $15 to get through and it's very dark in the tunnel. If you can afford this tunnel or make it before AM traffic or PM rush hour than you may be fine but anytime during either of those times you are going to be bumper to bumper. read more

Historical tunnel that connects commuters, and everybody else from Hoboken into Midtown Manhattan. When all three tubes are working well it is one of the most efficient ways to get into and out of the city, sans the high toll. Otherwise, it can be a nightmare. Unlike its southern Holland Tunnel, the Lincoln brings you in a better route under the Hudson River. The Holland is okay, but I will list below why the Lincoln is better. If you decide to bus in, one of the things it has going for it is the XBL, or the Exclusive Bus Lane. This lane allows for buses to move into the tunnel without those incredibly long waits. It is the busiest in the United States. Another thing is the helix going into Manhattan. It gives you the best views of the Manhattan skyline bar none. I remember it well before 9/11, but even now, it is still a sight to see. With a tunnel named after one of the greatest US presidents, it better be as big as he was, and it is, to the fullest extent money, and traffic, can buy. read more

Probably one of the creepiest tunnels I've ever been to (not to mention outrageously expensive at a whopping $15). I missed my turn and ended up going through the Lincoln Tunnel which is what I did NOT want to do. Long story short, ended up driving in Manhattan for the first time and it was not fun (and difficult to find my way back). Anyways, after going through the tunnel, I started reading Stephen King's The Stand and realized how creepy it was for Larry to go through the tunnel. Lincoln Tunnel sucks to go through but is fun to look at. It's one of the greatest engineering marvels. This is one of the ways to get from New Jersey to New York. It sucks if in an automobile. Taking a bus is better and saves money. If you're in a car it can take forever. It's also a hefty toll at about $8 each time through. The busses use the bus lane and you won't have to pay a toll. A lot of times there will be worse traffic going into or coming out. The toll booths can cause a lot of backups, and they may have some lanes blocked too. It is really dark inside. It's also under water so there's no openings to see out. The tunnel is about a few miles long and if there's no traffic it takes several minutes to get through. read more

The Lincoln Tunnel is a tunnel connecting New Jersey with New York, going under the Hudson River. Traffic always seems to be a mess when I have been through there. My most recent visit through the tunnel was on October 5, 2019. Tolls for the tunnel are $15 without EZPass; with an EZPass, the toll cost is discounted based on whether you go through the tunnel in a peak or off peak time. Tolls are only charged one way, going out of New Jersey into New York. Going from New York to New Jersey has no toll. Like any of the other tunnels and bridges in the area, traffic was pretty busy both coming into New York on September 25th and also leaving New York on October 5th. Coming into New York was crazier, as there were several lanes of traffic going around a curve to get to the two open tunnels at the time. At least I wasn't too rushed at the time to get to the cruise terminal. It was definitely a bottleneck trying to get through with bumper to bumper traffic. Once through the tunnel though, traffic was a bit better, but still the crazy New York City traffic I remembered from a few years before. Overall, this is just another tunnel to get you from New Jersey to New York. This is good to use especially if you are headed for Manhattan, the cruise terminal there, etc. They do need to do better with signage further ahead of time to know exactly what tunnels are open (left, center, and right). On the trip into New York, we didn't know until after turning the curve to the tunnel. If your travels take you into New York City, the options are limited, so just choose a bridge or tunnel and go with the flow. read more

What can I say about the Lincoln Tunnel? As you drive a spiral like descend towards the toll booth, the breath taking amazing view of NYC skyline. Stay on the right lane if you are paying cash. Feels like only one lane for CASH. Nevertheless, as you get closer to the toll booths there are 3 lanes that takes CASH. Worse night mare is getting on a EZ Pass lane on the left and have to move over to the far right to the CASH lane and everyone honks and curses you out. So learned my lesson to read the signs and bear to the right. Going through the Lincoln Tunnel is like the Holland Tunnel with the inner tubes. You must pay a toll whether it's the GW Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel or Holland Tunnel heading into NYC. These are the three main arteries getting into NYC. As you leave NYC going towards Jersey there is no toll. Be prepared for bumper to bumper traffic. Nice when there is no traffic which is rare in the city that never sleeps here in the Big Apple. read more

Ah, the Lincoln Tunnel. This fine tunnel connected me to the beautiful metropolis that is Manhattan. It was a fun drive, and one that was not too pricy ($15) coming from New Jersey. I crossed this tunnel close to midnight, so traffic was relatively light. I heard horror stories of traffic here during the daytime, but I am not going to try and prove them wrong. Aside from the tolls, it is patrolled heavily by NYPD. There is no real place to stop here, it is not allowed and people will hate you for it. Fortunately, i didn't have to deal with that. I did not come back this way, as I decided to take another tunnel out of Manhattan. I'm assuming the fare is the same going into New Jersey as coming out of it. read more

You will most likely lose. - Get cut off if you leave more than .5 inches of space between yourself and the car in front of you whilst merging to enter. Be prepared to bring it on. - Make seemingly undroppable cell phone calls. - No longer be able to rock out to DJ Noodles on Hip Hop Nation (ch.44) due to nonexistent satellite reception. - Sometimes forget that you are under a great deal of water. - Enter in one state and inevitably leave in another. - Enter and/or exit the tunnel itself using a variety of street options. The Lincoln Tunnel is: - The reason i'm glad my car has good brakes. - Subject to traffic at any time of the day. - Somehow, in my experiences, more reliable than the Holland Tunnel. If your travel is flexible...the best time(s) to go through based on vats of data and a simple econometric regression (no, not really) are between 10am and 1pm, or after 9pm. The worst times to go are pretty much anything in between. Of course, there are exceptions...so don't quote me. This is my least favorite tunnel. If your coming from jersey there's always traffic in the helix and if you're coming from NYC there's always traffic due to some jerk trying to cut into the line. The tunnel is not ventilated so I don't suggest you open your window upon passing through. The lights can be a bit blinding at night. Don't switch lanes when you're in the tunnel, this helps with traffic. Much better to pass through with ezpass, you pay a smaller toll. Upon entering nyc from jersey be sure to stay on your right side if you need to go downtown and if you need head midtown uptown go towards the left of the tunnel, this way you're not forced to go a direction you don't want to be heading (remember you can't switch lanes). I'll be honest, I'm more of a bridge guy, even though I've been fascinated with tunnels since growing up in Baltimore and travelling through the Harbor Tunnel Thruway. It seems like this tunnel is always crowded and trying to head outbound from any approach is an exercise in frustration. If you go at very off hours, it's not that bad but it's maddening to move only one block in 20 minutes. The good thing is that it's free outbound but it's $13 coming back into the city. On my trips through the Lincoln Tunnel, I have been very fortunate. Have managed to avoid the rush hour traffic each time. Cause who wants to get stuck sitting in that gridlock specially inside a dark Tunnel. So glad that I have always been able to schedule our trips to the Big Apple to miss those awful times. It really is quite an amazing accomplishment. At about 1.5 miles and being built under the Hudson River! Bravo! As a tourist, I like it. My preferred method of going through the Lincoln Tunnel from New Jersey to NYC is to take the bus. There is a special bus only lane, and it is cheaper than paying the $12 toll. This tunnel gets me where I need to go. The only downside is that you can spend many hours in it trying to move. Ugh I hate, hate, hate feeling cooped up. I'm super claustrophobic. It's a historic tunnel with many memories but there has to be a time when this tunnel flows nicely and you're not sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. Any time I need to use this tunnel it like people turn into idiots and become afraid to drive and be a little bit aggressive to stay in or switch lanes. Be Aware: TOLLS WENT UP TO $13. It's definitely not worth the price! You increase the price but don't make this tunnel easier to get in & out off. I just don't get it. read more

It about 20 minutes to get to and through the Lincoln Tunnel. During this slow period of traffic for New York, it got me wondering what I might see. I certainly wouldn't be seeing the naked cowboy playing his guitar in the rain. Luckily it did not rain in New York this day. Seeing the big buliding come up in front of me was a sight to see. The thought of how long it might take to build one of these buildings crossed my mind. Seeing hole in the ground as we got off the bus, I saw the ground work for a new buliding going up. I then wondered how the take down the older buildings without damaging the adjacent building next to it. The answer that came to my mind is, speed and accuracy. As we left the Lincoln Tunnel we saw pigeons collected under a bridge. The mass amount of shit droppings are in the hundreds. Nevertheless, when we started driving by, something spooked the birds and they flew in circles for a while. They weren't inclined to leave their homes for too long. Not long afterwards, I saw several police Smart Cars being used in New York. It seems strange, but also very useful seeing how packed New York can get...especially on Christmas and New Years Eve. Good things are going to happen in New York and I am looking forward to getting off this bus. When the bus dropped us off, we were located on 41st and 7th Ave. Right in front of large signs of Aquaman. The movie theater around the corner is going to be packed on December 21st. read more

As a passenger for my existence on Earth, I feel a driver's frustration with dearly beloved Lincoln--Lincoln Tunnel. Can traffic snail to a grinding halt even slower from Weehawken, NJ to Manhattan? One way fare at $8.00 and reduced rate for off-peak hours which is better than the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge at a utter dismal of $13.00 (one-way). The Lincoln gets cars to/from New Jersey into Manhattan which serves it purpose, yet nothing more. It's a tunnel, what more input to write in this review? With traffic horrifically backup so badly it probably was built in former U.S. President Abraham Lincoln's era with the amount of population and less automobiles in that time era as opposed to 2011 TriState New York/New Jersey/Connecticut population and number of vehicles existing today. I have a love/hate relationship with you. Having lived in NYC for over a decade and working for a time in NJ, never mind all my friends out there I have been through you countless times. I lived a block from your entrance for 6 years. I could leave at the same time each day and never know if I would breeze through you or sit outside my apt for an hour. Once on the NJ side the traffic can get dicey where those two merges come in, but once you go to the Turnpike or Rt 3 it does tend to get easier. Coming back into the city, it was also always a gamble. On that front the GW Bridge (when Cristi is not grumpy) is more reliable. But if you hit it when its moving along, it super fast and easy. You can choose to go uptown, downtown, crosstown once back in the "City that never sleeps" easily. I was here recently and came through you some 8 times in a week, and most times it was fairly easy. However, given the toll fee, which is just out of site, you'd think it would be much easier. Given that level of uncertainty and the cost, I can only give three stars. read more

The other day I was in Weehawken and glanced across the Hudson to Manhattan. I had this sudden desire to go there but needed to figure out how. I was in my car so I couldn't really leave it and swim across. It would probably be towed, I would be very cold and my clothing would be wet. Hmmmm. So I figured, hey why not take the Lincoln Tunnel. It's really cool. It's a tunnel that goes under the Hudson River and takes you into Manhattan! But not only does it get you there, when you're ready to go back home you can go back through it only this time it's free!! Lately, word about the Lincoln Tunnel has gotten out. Seems like everyone I know has either driven through it or is planning to do so at some point in the future. Wow! One word of advice is that you should get an "EZ Pass". It's a small plastic box that mounts on your windshield so you don't actually have to stop and pay the toll (oh yeah forgot to tell you that it costs money to use) and also eliminates having to tip the toll booth taker. Or maybe it adds the gratuity; no clue. read more

Bus lane: closes at 10am. So if your taking a bus... be sure to get to the tunnel by 10. Avoid rush hour at all costs. 7:30-10 4:30-6:30 if you don't you risk getting stuck in the tunnel for over an hour and come out wanting to shoot yourself. If its not rush hour... this is a safe bet. read more

This is one of three ways to get to New Jersey from Manhatten. Entrance is on the West side of Manhatten in the midtown area. There are actually a few streets to get to the Tunnel. One is off of 9th Ave and one is off of 39th Street. This tunnel gets alot of bus traffic because of it's close proximity to Port Authority Bus Terminal. There is actually a ramp that runs right to Port Authority for the buses use only. Drops you off in Weekhawken New Jersey and also to just about every highway you would need to get to in Jersey. The Turnpike, the Garden State, I-80, Route 3, etc. The tunnel is run by the Port Authority as well and the tolls are coming into New York only. I think the tolls are up to $14! Yeesh. Definitely worth it to get E-Z Pass, which is accepted here. Not only are the lines usually cheaper, you get a decent discount on the toll. read more

One star because it technically serves it purpose. Two stars because it has yet to implode under the pressure of the waters above. I'm not a fan of this tunnel. Why? Well it seems every time I get stuck in a tunnel its this one! Not for like 5 minutes or 10 minutes but I've been stuck in this tunnel for upwards of 30 minutes standing still. The entrances and the maze like roadways that lead to the entrance on the Manhattan side make no sense and probably were never planned out well, if its not already closed by some screaming NYC traffic agent. I mean, it is a tunnel so what can you say? When I was younger, this was my favorite part of going to New York, because I always liked tunnels growing up. Now, getting older, you realize that this place does not make going to New York City that fun, It's very crowded inside, and can get tightly spaced between cars. It's a tunnel, so it's not really clean, but you're not walking in the tunnel, so it really does not matter. Sometimes, can take forever when there is lots of traffic inside!
