Wow. That's about…read morethe sum of it. Wow. Ever shoot at something too small to see with your naked eye from over a quarter a mile away? Wow. The sound takes so long coming back to you that your brain won't let you understand that you really did hit the target. It's a very very weird experience if, like me, your normal experience is in shooting at targets only a couple of hundred yards away. Chris Gesualdo, the owner of Fixed Sight Training has a 500 yard shooting range set up on some ranch property he rents way the heck out in Centennial . . . kinda like in the Nebraska part of Centennial:). (Actually, only about a 45 minute drive from LoDo). Chris is a great guy and a very experienced shooting instructor. I'm so glad I paid for a private tutorial on long range shooting and it came with a whole bunch of extremely helpful technical shooting instruction. By the end of about two hours I was regularly hitting pie-plate-sized metal targets from over a 1/4 mile away in a 5 mph cross wind using off-the-shelf ammo (Remington Accutips, 165 gr) in my 30-06 Remington 700 CDL using a Leupold VX-3 3.5-10x 50 mm scope. Tomorrow's the first day of rifle elk season and while I don't plan on taking a shot over 300 or so yards, if the occasion arose and I was presented with the right opportunity, given Chris's instruction and the knowledge acquired from his expertise, I wouldn't automatically reject the shot. My consideration, as always, would be "am I confident that I could kill that animal with just one round?" But now, given my experience with Chris, I've just expanded exponentially my self-confidence, as well as my humility in understanding the incredible power and responsibility that comes with that kind of training. It's really a pretty amazing experience, and if you want to increase your shooting skills I'd highly recommend that you go out and pay Chris a visit.

Truly a top notch place to go shooting. A group of us chose the private lesson and did not regret…read moreit. First of all, Chris at FST was fantastic. He was flexible with his schedule and the weather, was upfront about pricing and any limitations on the day, and was very knowledgeable in a group with varying experience. It's about 45 to 1 hour out from downtown Denver, but well worth the travel. The range is nothing, fancy, but it's got the distance and does the job with fun targets. It was very cold that day and Chris graciously opened up his RV to warm up in between rounds. He gave us great instruction, but also let us shoot as we saw fit within the ground rules. We had the opportunity to shoot a handful of different guns at a handful of targets. Overall a great place for shooting and being coached up, would definitely recommend, especially if you want to take a group out shooting.

After reading Karen's comments in a Facebook group concerning gun rights after declaring she was a…read moreNRA licensed instructor, and then refusing to provide credentials when asked, I felt the need to write a review. The post was concerning someone open carrying a long rifle in the State of South Carolina, a state she (Karen) doesn't reside in, but felt the need to express her blunt opinion anyways. She commented on the post and said, "it was stupid, provocative and unnecessary." Just wondering how an individual exercising his right to openly carry a long gun, which is perfectly legal in South Carolina are the things you said? Are you saying exercising a right is "stupid, provocative and unnecessary"? It clearly states in the NRA ethics guide... RESPECTING OTHERS a. Trainers respect the rights of others to hold values, attitudes, and opinions that differ from their own But clearly, Karen was on another path that day. There were many comments and none of them showed respect towards one exercising their legal right to openly carry his long gun. The old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all was thrown out the window when Karen showed up to the post. Will also be filing a formal complaint with the NRA on her rude attitude. Hopefully Karen can learn from this mistake and will help her become a better advocate for gun rights in the future.

Safety first and always, learning how to load the magazines, how to line up the front and rear sights - I mean..who knew you were supposed to keep both eyes open when aiming a gun? We didnt! This is just some of the information she taught us and it was all invaluable. Then the last part of the class was spent on the gun range, again...another great part of the day, remembering safey while loading the guns, shooting targets and having fun. We can't thank you enough Karen, your class was the bomb!!
